= [ORP] Kel's Bells Tavern in Egremont

--Blythe
I was happy there were plenty of customers milling about, for I slipped through the bar to Kelster Wallace, as he stood by the counter, a tankard in his fist. He looked rather somber, and I smiled brightly as I approached. As he nodded his head, I thought what a gentleman he was, for he pulled out a chair for me at a nearby table.
Why Lady Blythe, may I get you some tea? I had to laugh at the formality of it. I was just Blythe Williams, and in Barnstaple, where I met him, he was just Kelster. Hikenai insisted on informality and those who entered her home, were on a first name basis with everyone else, regardless of class or station. But here, in public, in his business, I was the picture of prim and proper behavior. At this I smiled, however, for I was not going to stay prim and proper, oh no!
Why, my lord, I would love some tea! I sank gracefully into the chair he offered and smiled again. I so love being in Egremont!
Lilith_
Lili was still very much asleep when Norbo, her pretty wolf cub, started to fervently lick her hand asking for food. She slowly opened her eyes, they felt so heavy and tired, and looked around the room. "Oh, dear!" she cried, seeing the sun on top of the sky "It is noon! I am so late!". She raised to her feet, though her acking head suggested otherwise, and hurried to change her clothes and pack some fish then grabbed Norbo and rushed through the door. [...]

Upon arriving at the Kells Bells, her mind had already been through all the things Kel would do and say if he knew how late she came to open the tavern. Not to mention after the previous night's drinking contest it must have been a mess. Lucky for her, Kel used to come in only later so Lili figured she still had a chance to cover it all up. "Now if only this terrible hangover would go away...". Trying to unlock the door to the tavern, she found that had already been done. "Oh,my! I must have forgotten to lock it." Hoping nothing was missing, she opened the door and entered.

But the tavern was not empty. Dear Kel had a drink with Blythe at the bar, while Lizzy was busy cleaning, doing Lili's job, to be precise. "Kel,you're...here..." she mumbled, looking quite confused. "I'm so sorry, I overslept and my head awfully hurts." With the best sad puppy face she could muster in the state she was, she hurried to see to her duties "Leave those, Lizzy, please. Have a seat and I'll fetch you a drink". Before Lizzy had the chance to answer, Lili grabbed her hand and whispered "How on earth did you manage to be here so early? Weren't you as drunk as I was last night?"

Lizzy looked furtively at Kel and Hik, hoping they wouldn't blab

"oh, you know... Up with the lark..early bird.. hair of the dog...and the devil makes work for idle hands... " she ran out of metaphors, and smiled weakly, running her fingers through her hair, which was now so tangled she thought it may be beyond hope...

she sat down at the table nearest the fire and stared into the flames, wondering if anyone had fed the pigs... "bacon and eggs" she murmered quietly... she hadn't eated for 18 hours and her stomach was beginning to complain about the all liquid diet, oddly enough the thought of greasy bacon and eggs fried in fat didn't make her feel worse, in fact in her opinion it was the perfect way to end a 36 hour day. (which is what some people would call starting the next one)

Ahhhhh, those silly young women! I had just noticed Kelster's cousin Lizzy cleaning in the back, and then his sister, Lilith, came through the great door of the tavern. Had I been either of them, I would have been fast asleep on one of those goose down mattresses in Wallace Castle, and not rise until late in the day! Then I would put on beautiful gowns and attend balls, masques, parties and great feasts. Should I be the lady of Wallace Castle I would give those feasts, and I could not imagine why either of them felt it necessary to come and sweat in this tavern, when they clearly were born to wealth and privilege. Looking closer at them, I realized they appeared rather, well, unkept.....It made me annoyed at them, for some reason, and I momentarily forgot why I even came to Kel's Bells. Then I turned to Kelster and I remembered. Not that it did me much good, for Kel might has well have been a thousand miles away, so distracted he was by something.
Kelster
"I'm so sorry, I overslept and my head awfully hurts."

Kelster smiled at Lil. It is all right Lil, there was no need to open up, it seems Liz never left. Instead of starting to clean, could you go and make Liz some bacon and eggs, she is cleaning the bar to earn her breakfast this morning, it seems she spent all her money on ale last night.

Kel went back to thinking of Lady Hikenai writing the letter to Rich concerning little Su-su, Forgetting about Blythe sitting at the table with him for a moment. Jerking back to reality, he turned his head back towards Blythe. Sorry Blythe, I was just thinking of Lady Hikenai, would you like another drink?

Just thinking of the lady Hikenai. For a moment I felt doubt. Perhaps this might not be the time to approach him, regarding what I would like. I did so want to be a lady! The desire to be viewed as such, in Kelster Wallace's sight, made me shake my head and smile, toss my head and look down demurely. Oh, no! I must not stay gone too long, sir, Lady Hikenai may need me. I was only out, on a little walk. In fact, I must be going now, sir! Thank you for the tea!
This was clearly not the time to be seen flirting in the tavern with Kelster Wallace! There were too many relatives around who I'd wager would go straight to the Lady Hikenai!
So I rose from the table, made a pretty cutsy and took my leave.
Lilith_
"I'll see to that right away, Kel"

Lili was very glad to see herself off the hook and Kel so peaceful. She put down the dirty mugs and stepped to the cooker. "Pepper on your eggs, Lizzy?"
As she made Lizzy's...well, lunch she thought about the previous night, trying to remember how many drinks she had. "Awww..." If only the thought of that wouldn't hurt so much. Last thing that crossed her mind was herself on the bar "dancing" with a mug in each hand and trying to keep her balance. "What a night! This tavern's got the strongest beer in town." she mumbled, while chopping the bacon.

She gave Lizzy her plate and fed Norbo too, the took a seat, her head in her hands, daydreaming a litle more.

She had entered the tavern full of determination and self confidence, but seeing how distracted Sir Kelster was, and that he was practically fawned over by two young ladies already, Blythe left, miffed. She stood outside the tavern and considered what she should do, for she really did not want to return to the Inn at Riverwood just yet.
Blythe walked slowly down the snowy lane outside Kel's Bells. She wished she could have stayed in the warmth of the tavern, anyway, but the happy voices all around her increased her loneliness. She looked up as she passed the church of Egremont. She always attended church, an old habit she clung to, from her days of being little sister to Hoban. She clung to the habit now in order to feel close to Hoban, not to feel close to Jah, for she could think of nothing in her life that Jah had done for her. Only Hoban! Suddenly, Blythe missed her sister acutely and knowing that Hoban was still at work, she turned in the direction of that inn, where her sister was a maid.
Perhaps, I shall leave her a message, and later, when she finishes for the day, she and I can meet for dinner! It would give me great pleasure to treat her to dinner!
And Blythe hurried along, pulling her thick cloak snugly about her small form.
Hikenai
I came around the cornor and was pleased to see that the tavern was packed.
My lady. Sir James helped me down from Drambuie and I rubbed Dram's neck for a minute and scratched his ear. I hesitated a moment there, with Sir James, as he waited for me to enter the tavern before he would lead Dram and the other warhorse to the livery stables. I wanted to broach the subject of the others returning to Barnstaple, with him and young Stafford staying on to assist me. Having an escort everywhere was unnerving to me sometimes. My brother was so kind and protective, but really, I felt guilty for having a small entourage. These people were needed elsewhere probably and now, especially Sir James, for I had heard rumor at the tavern that......and my mind wandered a moment before I entered, a sense of guilt and shame overtaking me. I missed the Brotherhood, and most especially, Chrisiusmaximus, Paddy, Snow, Mistyblue, Veroncia, Black Nic, the children--all of us de Peche's. And again, my heart constricted with longing for Cornwall and with the desire to see my family, to see us all gathered together. Then I turned, nodded at Sir James, he swung open the tavern door, and I entered.

Kelster
Kel, still deep in thought, his eyes gazing into the fire, felt a sudden chill as if someone had walked into the tavern. His eyes turned toward the door as in walked Lady Hikenai. An instant smile beamed across Kelster's face as he saw her standing there, she always took away any worries he had just by her smiling at him. Rushing across to greet her, he picked her up by her waist, spun her around once and slowly eased her down, towards his waiting lips, kissing her softly, he softly whispered to her. It is so good to see you here Hik, would you like a dram of whisky to warm you up on this cold day?

Hikenai
Hikenai entered the tavern with a heavy heart. Seeing Kelster's face, however, her heart soared as he crossed the room, and grasped her by the waist, lifted her up, and spun her around before he lowered her into his kiss and warm embrace. Hikenai felt immediately consoled, just looking into his eyes. Kelster's kiss removed any worry or unhappiness the moment his lips sought hers. She thought of the man Kelster was, how honored she was he had asked her to be his wife, how happy she was with him, how each hurdle or obstacle they faced and conquered together, had strengthened their bond, brought them closer. One day in the early fall of this new year, she would marry Kelster, and thinking about this, as Kelster asked if she would like a shot of whisky........ would you like a dram of whisky to warm you up on this cold day? Hikenai tilted her head back and laughed. Yes, darling, I would love one to help get warm! Hikenai watched Kel's hands as he prepared the little glass for her. Hikenai looked at those hands and saw them, as if for the first time, the hands of the man who would be her husband. She nearly got goosebumps, but it was not from the cold. Then Hikenai looked at her own hands. When they married, she and Kel would work hard. She wanted to work hard right along side Kelster. Hikenai looked forward to this and dreamed of it often, a life with Kel, a home and children.........Then a cloud passed over Hikenai's face and Kelster, who could read Hik like a book noticed.....

Kelster
Yes, darling, I would love one to help get warm!

As Kelster poured Hik a dram of whisky, he pondered to himself what the future had in store for him. A life with this beautiful , gentle, yet strong Lady was more than his wildest dreams could have imagined just a few short months ago. Turning to her to pass her the drink, he couldn't help but notice the look on her face.

What's wrong my darling? Is it little Su-su you are thinking of?

Hikenai
Hikenai smiled gratefully at Kel. She did not have to hide her feelings or pretend things were alright when they were not. He always wanted to know her feelings and always tried to help her achieve whatever she desired. How could he know, she thought, that which she desired most might, be the only thing she would ever have to deny him, as well? Yes, Kel, I am thinking about Su. I do hope Rich will decide to allow her to accompany us when we go to traveling about Cornwall, especially if we do happen to go beyond, perhaps to Sussex, as well! Hikenai felt a large lump in her throat and she willed herself to smile and appear gay. Hopefully, she would not have to address this with Kel, now......not just yet..... Although, Hikenai thought to herself, time was definitely her enemy.

--Melissaunde
Melissaunde stood outside Kel's Bells tavern and debated going in. She was surprised to see, the establishment was owned by Kelster Wallace! Despite the importance of her not revealing her identity, it was tempting to go in and have a drink, before returning to her room at the inn. The boyish clothing she wore made her feel invincible, and Mel knew should she overplay her hand, it might mean death to both her and Grifter. She thought about him, asleep on the bed in the inn. It had been snowing again when they reached Egremont. She immediately booked a room at the Inn at Riverwood, and, before leaving to come to the tavern, made sure Grifter was comfortable. He had sat down upon the bed wearily, and for a moment, seeing the expression on his face, Melissaunde had grown hopeful, as removed his boots and carefully placed them, side by side, beneath the bed. He seemed to suddenly come back to consciousness, seemed to have some light in his eyes! But the moment passed, Grifter lay back upon the bed, closed his eyes and began to snore almost immediately. And now, Melissaunde stood in front of the tavern, and took a deep breath, drew her man's overcoat around her and pulled her cap down further over her eyes. Mel hoisted her belt up, and adopting a swagger she hoped appeared masculine, opened the door and approached the bar.
Kelster
As Kel was talking to Hik, he noticed another cold chill enter the room as the door opened. Looking over Hiks shoulder to see who had entered, his eyes came upon a very strange looking man, someone he had never seen in Egremont before. Thinking to himself that this fellow appeared to walk in a strange manner, maybe from some old war wound or maybe a defect from his birth, he wondered if this chap needed some assistance as Lil was attending another table. Excuse me just for one second my love, I think this man may need serving.

Walking back to behind the bar, Kel puts on a welcoming smile. What can I do for you my good man, maybe a drink or do you need to look at our menu?
