Wallace Castle

Osbert
The young ones were gathering their coats and mittens and following Oblio and Inna out of the room and down the hall. The sight sucked at Osbert's soul, like a great and powerful whirlwind, pulling apart the fabrics of deeply hidden days past, tugging at time and events shelved far in his back rooms. Twice now, the mention of the word...'Da ...that particular accent from the young lady's mouth, the startle of Lawrence's parting words...his eyes fought to conceal the memory that was ready for battle.

His world was quickly becoming smaller, stripped of the cluttering of useless mountains and boulders of unbelievable meaning. The single, soft and centering touch of a grazing cheek upon his shoulder kept him from floating completely away...

Hey Os, I think you might be my Da'. Have you ever noticed that Henry and I could mistaken for twins?

Hikenai was struck momemtarily silent by Lawrence's words, letting them register in her mind. The Wallace family had known Lawrence was their family member, but as so many children were often raised in the households of other family members, as was the custom among those who were somewhat highborn, Hikenai had not been certain exactly where Law fit in to the family tree. She hoped the procedure of dressing the children for the out door excursion hid her expression of surprise, for there was MUCH about her brother-in-law unbeknownst to her. For a moment she considered those long, long years gone by when Os was friend to her later long dead first husband, Thomas De Bevill. She remembered how Thomas had laughed and told her what a lothario Osbert was. It seemed he had all the ladies in Cornwall quite smitten when he was a young strappling, barely old enough in those days to shave!

She knew that Henry and Lawrence bore an incredible resemblance to each other.......could it really be.........And Hikenai, of all people knew, yes, it certainly could be! Was not she herself raised by her De Bevill aunt and uncle, when she was actually a De Peche----and that bit of information withheld from her? Sometimes lineages were withheld from children for quite compelling reasons. And Hikenai stared for a moment at Osbert, her eyebrow raised, a small soft smile on her lips.

"Now, children, let us go out!" Hikenai giggled. "I believe you all are bundled up quite snugly!"

As everyone was getting ready for the bonfire outside, Wirc was still seated in his chair looking outside the window, thinking of how he managed to even get invited to such a private party, where usually only family members and close friends are invited. Nevertheless he was happy he was here making friends and meeting such interesting people everywhere he looked, so he decided not to think too much into it. He then stood up from his chair and was looking at the children getting ready to go outside.

"Now then, where is this bonfire I heard so much about?"

Come on Wirc, have a shot of whiskey with us!

As the night deepened, the flames leapt against the sky. At Kelster's direction, Sir James would continue to pile on the large logs, and the fire crackled and snapped, sparks flying and the wonderful scent of seasoned wood drifted through the night air. The children were allowed to sip mulled wine, and many toasts were made with the aged whiskey ---Kel had saved the best for last!

As the flames leapt higher and higher, Hikenai grasped Kelster's hand and pulled him aside. Let's dance my love, she whispered, and see if the others will not follow us, for we have much to celebrate this night! Our family has grown, and is growing, by leaps and bounds, Kelster! The de Peche Wallaces! We are a fine family, my love! Let's dance! She threw her arms about Kelster, and looked sidelong at Os and Oblio, hoping they would dance with Aef and Inna. Nothing said celebration like music and dancing, and the musicians had already struck up the tune.

Kelster
Taking a hold of Hik, they started to twirl around the bonfire. With the fire crackling and spitting and the cloudless night with stars shinning, he looked into his wifes eyes. What a great day this has been my love. Then he kissed her softly on the lips and continued to dance.

Osbert
Strange things happen to Osbert when he dances, stranger than the usual strange...

Steamy tendrils wisped from the children's cloaks and trailed away into the night's darkness as they stood laughing and shivering next to the fire. Osbert could swear that there were new stars in tonight's sky; maybe it was just the stars in his eyes that made it seem so. The awkward sense of self that he long carried seemed as if it too was melting away tonight...

He had Aef's hand in his, buried in his pocket for warmth. Hands tell so much, he thought; the callused feeling of strong hands, unafraid of work, the fingerprints he sought to memorize, the hands of both strength and tenderness, a life in each finger...a life soon to be entwined, like the invisible threads that kept the stars in their places...

As each wrapped arms around the other, it began, something being set free from within, meeting against, into the other, wrapping around the two, like the warmest coat, like the most invisible of crystal, surrounding their slow passage into this newness. The world sometimes stops...their dance is slow, has always been slow and hesitant. Time has been the steadfast one, as it has stood in patient silence, waiting for this...

...and their feet never left the ground...

Breggitta
Breggitta hesitated leaving the warmth of the hearth. She had finally stopped shivering from the cold outdoors. As everyone seemed to be heading out, she thought it best to follow. Her mum had taught her that it was rude to not join in as a guest of the Lady of the house. When the bonfire was lit and the flames licked the night, she moved closer. It was wonderful to see so many people happy in one place.

Staring into the fire, Bregg's memories came flooding back of the day she found herself alone in the world. Her mother was sent to the arms of Jah in the old way, a pier. It was months since that day and a world of travel had gone by since then. As she watched the flames, her face felt the heat on her cheeks, not of the fire but of the tears she shed once more. Music unheard and dancers unseen, Breggitta was surrounded by the smoke from the fire, like a dreamscape with gauzy edges.

A small voice came to her. Gitta, mijn kind, dwalen niet meer. U kunt vinden wat je zoekt als je gewoon stil te staan en rond te kijken.* A breeze cleared the smoke and she turned her eyes away from the flames. Her gaze fell on Lord Osbert and his betrothed, Lady Aefernum.

[*Gitta, my child, wander no more. You may find what you seek if you just stand still and look around.]

To My Family and Friends at Wallace Castle

Greetings!

I imagine everyone is still enjoying, if not yet recovering from the festivities of the holidays. The journey to my new home in Kendal was long and boring. The whole while I was met with a cloud of gloom overhead and all I could think about was how much I missed being and Egghead.

However, when the sun rose this morning, it brought with it the warmth of a new day and a fresh smile to my face as I entered into the town of Kendal! I made it safe and sound and have officially moved my residence. I have secured myself a cozy little dwelling and am ready for whatever the next chapter of life may bring.

I do plan to return for the ceremonies, especially since I am best man at one. I also hope that one day my family may decide to make a surprise visit and come see me in Kendal. That would make my year!

Well I do not wish of to bore with this long letter and I'm sure the pigeon has grown weary of waiting whilst you all read it. I do miss you, but I am excited about this new adventure. And who knows, this may be "Lawrences' Adventure of Love." Perhaps I'll sow some oats and make Os a grandpappy.

Blessings from Jah Almighty and All My Love,

Law

The night air was chilling, yet the fire kept all who danced about it very warm, and enveloped in an atmosphere that was both magical, yet poignantly bittersweet for Hikenai. She leaned lightly against Kelster as they danced, firmly held in his embrace, reveling in their closeness, as they moved as one in time to the music. There was no place she would rather be than in Kel's arms.
Kel said,
Quote:

What a great day this has been my love.

When he kissed her, Hikenai could only think, and thank you, my love, for making all my days so wonderful. As they danced, Hikenai put all thoughts of past unhappiness far, far from her mind. In Kelster's arms, all was perfect in her world.

As the lovely song was about to end, Wirc went to one of the Tiorba players and asked: "Would you be so kind and borrow me your Tiorba?"... after he got his hands on the instrument he then turned towards the crowd then he said: "This song, my friends is for our 2 couples out here, that were brought together by Jahs will"
After those words he then raised his Tiorba, tuning it a bit before playing.

"To Oblio and Inna / Osbert and Aef! May Jah guide you in this sacred journey !."

"The next one is a classic and I hope you like it as much as I do, this one was the also the first song my dear father, may he rest in peace, taught me"

he ends this song with tears pouring down his face. if tears of sadness or happiness, that is even for him not certain.

Hikenai clapped her hands with delight as the song ended. She saw that Wirc was very moved by the music, and as usual, she felt tears spring to her eyes, for she was always extremely empathetic when someone was moved to tears in her presence.

"Bravo! Bravo!"

Pulling her lute from it's lambswool lined bag, Hikenai perched on Kel's knee and began her own rendition of a beloved Gaelic ballad.

He entre to the leaving room, gives a look to the newspaper and make a place for himself on the sofa.

Raven Bennett, played by Hikenai
Raven had come from the tavern to help Alice May with the big celebration dinner the Wallace's were having tonight. She was happy the huge meal had gone so well. Now the family was all out in the clearing, not far beyond the castle. The bonfire was roaring, and Raven could see it blazing in the dark night, as she looked through the windows of the great room.

She made her way into the sitting room, intending to clear away any glasses left in there, now that the Wallace's had toasted the engaged couples repeatedly, and then gone outside to drink and dance by the fire.

Upon entering the room, she saw a young man sitting there, drinking juice, eating some meat and bread, and reading. He had the definite features of a Wallace, and she hurried over to him quickly.

"Hello there! I am Raven Bennett, one of the serving girls for the Wallace family. They are all out around the bonfire. When you finish eating, shall I take you out to them? They are all out there---dancing and drinking----around the great fire! I know they want to see you."

Arai
Arai look at the girl and says " Thank you Raven, for the information" He lean and take another sip from his glass. "can you put up some fire here please?" he show her the fireplace. " and please shut the door behind you once you are done," He take a breath says " wait! tell others I will there in a half an hour"

Innacognito
Sitting alone, staring off into the flames, Inna was mesmorized by the dancing movements they made. She began to move, hearing music in her head and feeling the impulse to join it in expression. She danced around the fire, losing herself in the moment.
