[Heraldry] Office of the Imperial King of Arms

Findecano
The rooms and offices for the Imperial Heraldry are located on the second floor of the Imperial Palace, in the north-eastern rooms and tower.

Findecano's desk offered a nice point of view through the windows of the tower. Here he would receive visitors that would bring questions about anything that involves heraldry, but there was also a constant chain of letters entering and leaving his office, to be send all throughout the Empire and answering the many questions that were brought to him on paper.

Citation:
To the imperial king of arms,

From Us, His Highness Hadrien Marcus De Sparte, Duke of Breslau, Prince of Schweidnitz and immediate Lord of Dinant,

Hello!

First, we ask you to create for us a new set of seals so that we can properly seal our letters before the new imperial heraldic law. In the seal, we would like to have: Hadrian 1st, Duke of Breslau. We would like to have a phoenix as an engraved image.

Second, we ask to change our coat of arms. We know that you normally have our coat of arms. It will be necessary that the lordship of Chevigny be removed from our arms because we do not know if a count of province may or may not have vassals and we prefer to have a correct coat of arms with the fief we hold on our own.

[url=http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=445649i70q1yp.png [/url]

Third, we ask permission to move the vassals we decide to keep to our Duchy and our Principality. We demand to grant only a patent to the nobles that will be moved because they have already made allegiances in a legal ceremony to relieve everyone.

Fourth and finally, we also would like to make new ennoblements in our duchy and our principality.

To proceed to third and fourth in the list, we need to know the coat of arms and new fief names on our lands in order to create new nobles and move our vessels that we already have.

May the almighty protect you,

His Highness Hadrian Marcus de Sparte.
Made on 25th of May 1462.

Viscountess of Gorbio visited the imperial herald to have some clarification on the new imperial nobility Law.

Good morning. I'm Millerose di Leostilla. I received Gorbio as territory in Savoy in January after my term of duchess office. I would like to take vassals fairly quickly following a promise that I made. I made the request to the herald of Savoy, Viscountess Sarah Elizabeth. Her answer surprised me enough as it told me that I could not ennoble because with the new law on the nobility, there would be quotas.

Here is the letter she sent me in response.

Title: Re: Enquiry
Hello Viscountess,

we are now taking into account the new imperial law nobility of the Empire. As part of this one, quotas have been set up by the Emperor, the latter blocks in the text the possibility of further ennoblement. Our reigning are currently talking to the imperial marshal weapons and so we are forced to wait for the news of these before considering new files to heraldry of Savoy.

As soon as I know more, I will certainly contact you.

Sincerely,

Sarah Elisabeth vHvD
Herald Savoie

Can you tell me more and confirm that it is the will of the emperor block any ennoblement? I find it strange that we talk about when we see the quota noble accumulating titles in Savoy.
Thank you in advance to respond me.

Sorry for traduction, I used Google Translation.

The young duke of Westphalia looked up from his work when someone entered his office. He stood up and listened to her introduction and the presentation of a problem. She offered him the translation of a letter which he read. He did his best to understand correctly what she wanted to tell him, but the problem was quite clear for him. He responded:

"Welcome, Viscountess. As you might already know, I am Findecano de Brancion, Imperial King of Arms. I will gladly explain to you the current problems.
The new Imperial law of Nobility has a section that speaks about the vassals of the immediate nobility -these are the nobles that are a direct vassal of His Imperial Majesty- and does not speak about the provincial nobility. For instance, a immediate viscount can grant 3 knighthoods, so the people will be knights without a specific fief. You however, are a member of the provincial nobility, a viscountess. At the moment there are no set limits for the provincial nobles, or at least in my understanding of the law. I have asked His Imperial Majesty if this is right and if I should create a decree for the number of allowed vassals of the provincial nobility. I have also asked all the heads of the provincial heraldries for their advice on the number of vassals, so everyone is happy. Some patience will be needed however, because the Emperor is a very busy man with a lot of matters that need his direct attention.

I hope I have explained the matter to your understanding and satisfaction?"

The Young viscountess smiles to the duke and listened his explanation. She also tried to understand because the English language is not her mother tongue.

Thanks to receive me, my Duke. I'm happy to meet you. So if I understand what you say, there's not any quota on provincial nobility ? In this case, I wait confirmation from the emperor and I'll return to the heraldry of Savoy for my demand.
And for Leadership and Baron, it's always the same as before ? A baron may also conduct ennoblement?

Please, excuse me for my poor English. I don't talk easily in that language.

Findecano shakes his head and replies: "No, the barons and seigneurs are not the same as before. They are now different names for the same rank. The Italians have the 'barons' as lowest title with a fief. The Dutch, Germans and Slovenian have the 'seigneur' as lowest title with a fief. For the French provinces a choice still has to be made." In any case none of them can do ennoblements because they are the lowest landed title.
There will be a quota on the vassals of the nobles of the provinces. The exact amounts are still under discussion."

It depends on the historical facts. Did they historically call the lowest landed titles ''barons'' or ''seigneurs''?
Research is done by several French players into this case.

Good day King of Arms.
Is to confirm that I have spoken privately with His Majesty the Emperor a few days ago and with him we agreed to replace the Marquis of Santo Stefano, initially referred to as an imperial fief to assign me, with that of Ivrea.

Have a nice day.

The old Cardinal reached the office dl King of Arms, on the second floor of the Imperial Palace, together with the cousin Cristina.
Good morning I am the Cardinal Tacuma, and I'm here to have a clarification ... maybe more than one ... on my imperial county of Toggemburg.
He smiled and resumed
Your grace I am committed to travel in the realms and I need to ... nominate a vassal? a Lord? I do not know which figure I could name...
And then I wonder what would happen if I had, for a time, to establish my residence outside the Sring.
Findecano
Findecano welcomes the cardinal in his office. "Your Eminence, welcome. I hope that I can be of service to you.
To answer your questions. In the Italian region there is the rule that a fief must have a castellan when the lord is away. This rule does not apply to Imperial fiefs, so there is no need to worry if you would decide to travel. However it is still possible to ennoble vassals if you wish. Because Toggenburg is a county, you may ennoble one lord and dub three knights.
Then to answer your worries about moving outside of the SRING I can tell you that in your case you needn't worry, Your Eminence. You are not obligated to follow the auxilium in person because all clergy are exempted. However, your consilium will still be welcomed in the Imperial Diet."

Your Grace, thank you for the explanation.
I should have the residence for a period in the Serenissima Venice ... where I am making, in fact I have largely fixed some problems.
I know that as a priest I will never take up arms, but of course my aixilium was always offered under other garments, food aid and ducats.
I wish it was my cousin Cristina, who accompanied me here, to take care of the fief during my absence.
How am I going to appoint her? Is interrupted, clasping her hands, obviously, when this sad period of mourning will be ended
Findecano
The King of Arms nods and smiles. Then he continues: "Your Eminence may also appoint a steward. The steward will govern the fief in the case of absence and I think that under the current situation this is the wisest thing to do. Appointing a steward for a fief is done very easily, as I only need a written note for this as proof of the appointment. This way your cousin can act on your behalf in Toggenburg and you can stay in Venice without any concerns."

Your grace, he said, bowing his head I do not know how to thank you for your concern of responses and especially their clarity!.
I will provide for the appointment of my cousin, just mourning will end ... because everything has its time, and this is after the anguish, pain and prayers for our emperor.
I thank you again
turned to his cousin, silent beside him, to make her nod that they could go.
Coccodema
Behind the cousin she was trying to listen and understand what the two men were saying.

Your Grace, I am very honored to help His Eminence with his county while he is out of the Empire. He loves his land and would not want to see them abandoned.

But I have a question, if you have time to answer. What should I do to become his Vassal?

I am very grateful for your availability and the time that you are giving.

Findecano
"To become his vassal His Eminence should write me to request a ceremony to ennoble you as his vassal. Together with him I would find a fief within his county that he could enfeoff you with. I would then make the blazon for this fief and choose a date with His Eminence for the ceremony. One of the Italian-speaking Imperial Heralds will then be available for the ceremony at a location of your choosing. The ceremony could also happen here in Strasbourg, but at the moment the rooms are limited. Usually it happens in the castle of the liege lord. During the ceremony the new vassal would make an oath and in return he or she is granted the rights for the fief and receives the blazon and a patent to prove that the ceremony took place.
I hope this is clear, but if you have any further questions, feel free to ask."

It is allowed to post topics for imperial fiefs in the ''Territories of the Empire'' subforum where you are free to roleplay about your fief, as long as there is an English translation.
