Everyone Makes Mistakes

David.c
For the first time in about a week there was a crowd of people in David's Liverpool tavern, Dead Mans Drink. The drink was flowing and Dave was making a nice profit. People were buying rounds for each other, and David was getting drunk quickly. It didn't take long for all of his worries to drift away. Jokes were being told around the table, and somebody eventually said, "Eh Davey, why's it you're not married yet?" And that question stayed in David's head for some time. It was there until he went to bed at night, and it was there when he woke up. Another night it came up again and David laughed, "I'll just marry the first girl whose name I hear!" Then somebody shouted, "Elizza!"

David stuck with that name and went out to do some research. It turns out there was a lady named Elizza! Somewhat new to England, so no doubt if David married her it might lead to some nasty rumors... But that was perfect! David loved nasty rumors! That's why he had so many Haj damned affiliates, to see if people would start accusing him of cloning! He let out a laugh and ran back to his office at Dead Mans and began writing a letter to the lass named Elizza.

Dearest Lassy, Elizza,

Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. I've been around for a long, long year and... I am not sure where to go from there. Anyhow, dearest lady, I am Ser David Merrick, a Hedge Knight of the prestigious House Calamore. I have heard of your exploits throughout my travels and I dare say, you are an amazing woman! Now, I don't mean to brag, but I am an amazing man. I fought beside Robinhood and his Merry Men at Kirkcudbright back in October, I robbed the Duke of Galloway, I lead the Fuiteach Laoch on a long campaign lasting half a year! I founded an army, I verbally fought the Westmorland Territorial Forces and forced their Knight Commander to resign! It should be noted that I, Ser David, am an amazing man. I could ramble on about my exploits for a long long year, however, I do not mean to bore you dear lady. I want to ask for your hand in marriage!

Waiting Lus- Eagerly,
Ser David

Elizza_
Elizza sat in a tavern in Mercia reminiscing over her time with the pirates. During the time she had been captured Elizza had been constantly asked about her love life. Whether she had some one waiting for her if she returned, although she had been sure she wouldn't. While she was sitting quietly in the corner with a mug between her hands she heard the sound of footsteps behind her. She turned around only to have a letter handed to her before the stranger disappeared. She looked between the envelope and the door in confusion before slowly opening it. As she read it she could feel her eyes widen in shock. She read through the small letter at least a dozen times in shock. She had gotten a proposal. A proposal from a complete stranger. Elizza glanced up from her spot to see the people sitting inside the tavern looking at her curiously. She carefully folded up the letter before shoving it in her pocket. She finished off her beer before heading back to the little cottage that she had managed to buy. Once she was safely inside her small home she walked over to her desk and began to write a reply. After a few tries she smiled in success at the small piece of parchment.

Dearest Ser David,

I must say that I was honestly quite shocked to receive such a letter, especially that of a marriage proposal. I must admit that your feats are quite astonishing and from what I have heard I dare say, you are quite an amazing man! I would like to accept your proposal!

Yours Truly,
Elizza

Perhaps it was the alcohol talking but Elizza agreed to marry Ser David. She grinned slightly as she sealed the envelope before sending it on it's way.

The letter fell into David's hands just a few days after sending his own, and he had to read over the reply a few times before realizing that this lady was as bat crap insane as he was. She actually accepted his marriage proposal? David had the feeling that he made a big mistake, but most his decisions were mistakes, so after a few seconds he decided not to let it bother him. He waited until the next day before deciding on how he would reply, and what he decided on was rather simple.

My Lady,

I admit I am bloody surprised you accepted! But I suppose it is hard to decline a man as amazing as me, eh? Haha! Anyways, Lady Elizza, I eagerly await meeting you in person for the first time. Currently I am a bit too injured to travel after singlehandedly taking on an entire army! Still alive to tell the story of course, it truly was an amazing fight, not very fair though. I showed those English pansies wot's wot! I own a tavern, Dead Mans Drink, I am usually there. Usually sober too. Unlike most men these days I am not a useless waste of space that does nothing but fight drink and yell. If you can't find me there just ask the bartender where the hell I am, and if he says I am passed out drunk in a ditch, or hungover in my room, he's lying!

Did I mention I'm a bard? True story.

Waiting for Some Actio- Affection,
Ser David

Once again David struggled over how to sign off the letter. All in all, it wasn't that bad. Sure there were a few fibs in there, but everybody had to be set up for disappointment now and again.

Elizza looked down at the letter in shock. She knew that she would probably live to regret this but the best memories come from bad ideas. To be honest she found it rather hard to believe that he wasn't like the other men who drank their sorrows away. After all what sort of mad man would propose to a woman that he's never met? For all he knows she could be in her bloody fifties, but then again she did accept so she herself must be out of her mind. Besides what's the harm in having another adventure? She waited a few moments thinking to herself. What was she going to say? She finally thought of something and immediately began to write.

Ser David,

You are indeed a very amazing person, by far one of the most unique I have heard of. I must admit that I too eagerly await meeting you in person for the first time. I am sorry to hear about the injury you gained in battle and hope that you are fairing well. Perhaps by the time we meet your wound will have healed. I have no doubt that the story of your marvelous battle is indeed amazing and can not wait to hear the tale. I am glad to hear that you showed those Englishman up. I think that I might have heard of your tavern and would be glad to meet you there. If your not there I will ask the bartender and don't worry I won't listen to him if he says you are passed out drunk in a ditch, or hungover in your room. I can not wait till we at last meet.

Love,
Elizza

She smiled happily as she finished off the small letter. To be honest she was still quite shocked that she was going to be getting married, especially to a man she had never met. Elizza ignored the rather giddy feeling that was filling her stomach and quickly sent the letter. As she was heading to the tavern she couldn't help but wonder about her mysterious suitor.

David was sitting behind the bar at Dead Mans. The last few bartenders kept spreading rumors about David's drinking habits so he fired them and took the job for himself. He heard Elizza was entering Liverpool today, so David had to be ready to show his face and disappoint his lady. He was wearing his torn black surcoat, which once made him look mighty, but now just made him look like a beggar clad in black rags, and had his thick brown cloak caked with dried mud overtop it. His hat was on his head, blocking out his eyes, and he leaned back in his chair resting. David was sure the door would open any moment now, to reveal Elizza. All David hoped for is that Elizza was actually a woman, and not some guy in disguise.

Elizza had finally managed to reach Liverpool. As she walked through the mildly busy streets of Liverpool Elizza couldn't help but begin to worry. What was she going to say when she finally met him? What did her mysterious suitor look like? She slowly walked towards the tavern that David had mentioned. When she finally reached the place she slowly opened the door peeking inside. As she looked over the small group of people she couldn't help but stop and look at one young man. He was wearing a torn black surcoat, reminding her of some of the people she had seen pass through her village as a child. He had a brown cloak and a hat completing the rather rugged look that he had going on. His hat was covering most of his face but she could tell from the way that he held himself that he was waiting for someone. She stood their for a moment debating on whether or not she should approach the strange young man before deciding to take the small risk. When she finally found herself in front of him she tapped his shoulder lightly. Are you by any chance David? She asked nervously not sure if she had made a mistake.

David felt a tap on his shoulder and let out a, "Gnyeeeeh..." He was trying to take a nap, and now some patron wanted to wake him. He moved about in his chair, trying to get back into a comfortable position so he could go back to napping, when he heard a woman's voice ask, "Are you by any chance David?" It seemed the lady wanted to engage him in conversation, and David could wasn't quite interested in that. He spent the about an hour already watching the door in hopes of Elizza entering, and now he was tired. Sod off," He muttered in response. "I'm too sober to talk..." David mumbled a few curse words and went silent for a bit, then happened upon the realization that this lady may just be Elizza. He straightened his back and moved his hat to look the lady in the eye. "B'yea, I'm David. Who're you?" He asked.

Elizza couldn't help but grin when the strange young man confirmed that he was in fact David. Oh my apologies, my name's Elizza she said shyly while fidgeting nervously. She looked up at the young man in front of her what was she supposed to say to him now that she was finally here? This was by far the most awkward yet exciting situation Elizza had ever been in. She couldn't help but worry though. What if he didn't like her? What if it had all been some form of cruel joke? What if he had been drunk and didn't really want to get married. She felt her eyes widen with worry as she realised that she had probably just made a complete fool of herself.

"Oh, uh, oh my Elizza!" David quickly got up and gave the lady a quick and clumsy bow. He was surprised that this fine looking lady was in fact the woman who appeared to be interested in marrying him. "Errr, uhhhh, I have something for you!" David shoved his right hand into one of the many pockets that lined his belt, and pulled out a nice gold ring. It wasn't very shiny, but it was gold! He extended his arm with the ring out to Elizza and said, "I think I'm supposed to give you an engagement ring? I haven't done this before but uh... Take it? I suppose..." David gave the ring to her and adjusted his cloak and hat, hoping to fix it up a bit to look more presentable.

Elizza_
Elizza giggled quietly at the surprised look on David's face when he saw her. Wait he had something for her, why would he have something for her? She watched curiously as he reached into one of his many pockets before pulling something small out of it. She grinned quietly to her self when she realised that David knew about just as much as her when it came to the whole marriage thing. When he mentioned the word ring though her eyes widened in shock. She had never been much for fancy, shiny or bejewelled things so when she heard ring she instantly thought to the horrendous objects she'd seen on some of the Lady's fingers. If their size wasn't enough on it's own the look definitely made them to much. She repressed the urge to shudder at the horrid thoughts of those atrocious rings. But when she looked down at the ring that David gave her she couldn't help but gasp. The ring itself was made of gold and although it wasn't to shiny or extravagant looking it was perfect in her eye. She slid the lovely gold ring onto her finger before looking up at the man in front of her. It's perfect she said with a grin and before she could stop herself or realize what she was doing she had her arms around his neck hugging him tightly. When she did realize though she pulled back quickly flushing in embarrassment. Sorry she mumbled quietly as she looked every where but at him. She wasn't sure if he had heard her or not but she couldn't bring herself to look at him, to see his reaction.[/b]

David's face went beet red upon receiving the hug from Elizza. It had been a few months since he was physically close to any woman, so the hug came as quite a surprise. When she took her arms away and apologized David wanted to tell her not to be sorry, but he couldn't speak for some reason. There was some emotion, almost embarrassment, but not the same, that just left David uncomfortable. He was happy, though. He went quiet for a moment, also casting his gaze to the floor, and after a few moments for silence David moved closer to Elizza and hugged her tightly. "You must be tired from all the traveling... Do you need some rest, Elizza?"

Elizza_
Elizza was shocked when she felt a pair of arms wrap around her, hugging her tightly. She smiled shyly up at David before shaking her head rapidly when he asked her whether she was tired or not. No, no I'm alright she said quickly. To be honest she was rather tired but she couldn't bring herself to tell him otherwise. It was as if something was drawing her towards him. She couldn't help but wonder what the strange man in front of her had been through. Even if he hadn't mentioned some of his travels before she still would have been able to tell that the man in front of her was indeed a wanderer. She could tell by the way he held himself and with what he wore but she also knew that there was another side to him and she was determined to find out what it was. Before she could say anything else though a small yawn managed to tear it's way up her throat instantly contradicting what she had said before about not needing any rest. She looked up at David smiling shyly before mumbling, maybe I should get some rest after all softly.

David lightened the squeeze of his arms and stepped back from her and spoke a bit nervously, "My room is the only one with a bed in this tavern but, well... If we're to be married I suppose sharing a room and bed isn't unusual." David was not sure how Elizza would react to that suggestion. He went to the back of Dead Mans and climbed up a staircase, lightly tugging Elizza along. The staircase lead up to a short hallway, with a door on either side. The one on the right side leading to a big storage room, the one on the left leading to his bedroom. There wasn't much in the hallway in terms of decoration. At the end opposite of the staircase was a roundshield made out of oak and reinforced with iron, painted black. There was also a small brown rug in front of the door to David's room, but that was it.

He opened the door to his room, revealing the inside. The bed was unmade, one of the two pillows was on the floor, and the single blanket was tangled up at the foot of the bed. There was a barrel next to the head of the bed, that David was using as a nightstand. It had two books atop it and a fat white candle. The first of the two books was the journal of David's late cousin, Ser Terrence. The second was David's own journal, fastened shut with a leather strip. A window peeked over the bed itself, and shined some light into the room. Above it was a curtain rail, without any curtains. Off in one corner of the room was a pile of the few clothes David had that he decided not to wear this morning. His thick fur trimmed coat was in that pile, along with a pair of violet pants, and his hat, among a few other articles of clothing. Next to it was a pile of bloody bandages in a bin. There was a lid atop it, hiding most of them, but a few strands of the bandages peaked out over the side.

David's room wasn't exactly clean, but one could call it homey if they tried really hard to find a compliment. David looked to Elizza and said,
"Sorry for the state of it, but I hope you can make yourself at home... I need to go take care of some business though, I should be back before sundown..."

Elizza_
Elizza smiled and nodded at David. The room wasn't all that tidy but to be quite honest it reminded her of her old room. You see Elizza wan't like other young ladies in fact she was quite strange. She had always preferred adventure over safety, gambling over sewing, the whole nine yards. Even when she was little she would rather play games with the boys than sit and read with the girls. Elizza had nothing against the ways that other woman spent their time but it just wasn't what she wanted to do with her life. So when she saw David's room, to her, it was perfect. I'll be alright David don't worry she said looking up at the young man with a grin. She had no problem with sharing a bed honestly because she for some strange reason felt safe with him. The feeling itself was something that Elizza was not used to. Safety had left her the few years she was held captive but for some reason it had decided to come back and it confused Elizza as to why. She was rather curious as to where David was going to be going but decided not to ask. His business was his own and if he truly wished to share it with her then he would. So instead of saying anything else Elizza kicked off her shoes and flopped onto the small bed, resting her arms behind her head and letting out a little sigh of content. Before she allowed sleep to fully take over her though she mumbled a soft, thank you smiling up at him before her eyes shut drowsily.

David came back into Dead Mans a lot later than he expected. His business took longer than it should have, and he got back in the tavern at around midnight. He went to his office, on the main floor, where he had an open keg of ale. He found a mug laying about his office and dunked it in the keg, and downed it quickly. He had a few more mugs, the exact amount he was unsure of, and then he moved upstairs to his room and cracked the door open a little. It looked like Elizza was asleep. He tip toed into the room, doing good in his objective not to make too much noise. He threw off his coat, surcoat, and shirt, stripping down to just his underclothes and settled down on bed, above the covers. He wasn't comfortable with being under the same sheets as a woman, just yet. Thankfully for him Elizza wouldn't be able to see the scars on his torso in the dark. He just hoped he would wake up first. It surprised him she never mentioned the grotesque scar on his right cheek.
