The Colony of Bath

Gregarious
Piran was frustrated. Oh, Gregarious had screamed, they always did. But he had not begged. Perhaps a new tact was necessary. He seemed to care nothing about the pain being inflicted on his body, so perhaps to toy with his mind. Piran tossed a bucket of water over Gregarious to rouse him.

Well, are you enjoying the game my friend? I'm not sure you will be able to walk again. Of course as you're about to die that really is the least of your concerns. Would you like me to end it now?

Nothing.

Well perhaps I'll just finish with you and get back to Asa. I think he wants me to attend to Sierra and her family.

A flinch, that was definitely a flinch, Piran smiled to himself. That is the soft spot. It almost always is with the likes of him.

Gregarious croaks "Her family will not let you touch her. Asa needs her.

Piran pulls Gregarious' face up by the chin to look him eye to eye. He stares for a moment.

You have no idea do you? Asa's father needs Sierra's family, or he did before the boarder clash my hounds started there recently. But Asa needs none. Asa's father will be dying soon enough leaving Asa his sole heir. And once the Radcliff's have been sufficiently weakened they will have to call on Asa's father for aid. Then Asa will take their lands from them. I have already made plans to remove the father and the son will fallow not far behind. I have people in place. It will be quick. They will not know what hit them. Then Asa has no farther use for Sierra. He has promised her to me, did you know that.

Hanging from his arms there is nothing Gregarious can do,. Never the less he tries weakly to slam into Piran, but Piran is ready. Pitran slams the butt end of his dagger into Gregarious' stomach. Despite his weakened condition the force of the blow causes him to double up lifting his legs briefly from the ground and causing excruciating pain in his arms and shoulders. Piran lets out a long laugh.

Oh, that is sweat. Thank you my friend, you have made me happy. Now I'll take each of your eye's as I tire of this game. Piran retrieves a red hot iron from his near by brazier. Now beg for mercy, beg for death, beg me to send Sierra swiftly after your soul. You know I'll grant none.

Gregarious can see the woods to the west. The sun is going down. The air near his face is searing with the heat of the iron and the woods disappear in the heat waves.

I start to drift slowly in my own bed. I hadn't slept in some time working as the new Lt. and catching up on all my tavern duties. I started out dreaming of Jill and I being together out on some lonely farm. Me being on the rocking chair and her beside me watching the sun go down slowly. We looked at each other and smiled, but then my dream turned to worse. Everything turned dark I didn't know where I was but all I could hear was laughing. Then something red. I jumped out of bed screaming falling to the floor. I looked all around me searching, searching for something. I didn't know what it was I was searching for. I slowly settled down and went outside. I looked over to Greg's place next door remembering he was out there. Out on some adventure to rescue Sierra in Scottland. Where was my friend, is he ok, and when will they both come back home. Or I will kick his butt if he doesn't come back. I laughed out loud to myself when I thought of beating him up. I go to my horse and saddle him up getting him ready for anything. I slowly walked back inside looking up and the moon and then at the snow on the gound. I slip back into bed and fall back to sleep thinking of what I want to do.

Jean had been walking around the market when she noticed a crowed gathering in the square. Curious, Jean went to go see. She found Sajan with the twins. To her he looked a little over whealmed.

"Need a hand?" she asked, offering to take one of the twins. In her head Jean was wondering where Rosa was. Jean knew that Rosa wouldn't leave anywhere right after giving birth.

Meda watched from the branches of her favorite tree as the sun began its descent. Her mind raced through details planning for her trip, though it was still a week away. Her pigs were ready for slaughter, though she needed to buy another knife, as her last two had broken. "Why do theives' knives never break?" she thought with a grimace. Her veggies would be ready to pick and sell in a few days. And her town duties were covered for the time, so she could leave town without worry.

Without worry? Hah!

Until Sierra and Greg returned, worry was going to be daily fare. They'd been gone so long. Too long. Some thing was wrong, Meda could feel it.

She shivered as a breeze blew by. The sun wasn't yet down, but she suddenly felt the need for a hot drink. She began climbing down. She'd just reached the last branch, and was about to swing down, when it cracked, then broke beneath her weight. She let out a surprised cry and landed on her back. For several minutes she just lay there, staring upward in surprise. Eventually she sat up. A thorough check revealed no bad injuries, except to her pride. She shot an irritated glance at the tree branch that lay beside her.

"Now how come branches never break when you want them to?" she muttered aloud. Then she shook her head. "Please, Meda. Now who in the world would actually want a tree branch to break?" She rolled her eyes, and headed for her home, muttering under her breath.

After finally catching up with Sajanzv out at the barn where he had gone to look for her, she smiles and asks him beseechingly, "Do forgive me, love, for my odd disappearance. I had the most atrocious of nightmares and found myself barracaded in the closet. The babes have been fed and sleep once more, peacefully. Perhaps when they awaken and a quick feeding, you'd like to show them off to the townspeople? Tis a bit too far for me to walk as yet but there is the pram to carry them in. Meantime, I've been besieged by yet another montrous aching in my head so am off to lie down." So saying, she kisses him passionately before turning and heading back into the house, wincing with each step she takes as it jars the pain in her head into full blossom.

After a couple days rest and some bandages for her wounds, Sierra was beginning to feel more like herself. Vanessa had become her bedside nurse and attended to her every need. Sierra still was not certain what brought about this change of character, but she was grateful for the care and companionship.

After breakfast, Sierra sat herself down to write a couple letters.

Quote:
Dearest Meda,

I write to you from Dollar, Scotland. Do not be alarmed. I am currently with friends and am out of harm's way for the moment. So much has happened that I will not try to summerize it in this note. I will most definitely have stories to tell you in front of the fire in the Tavern!

I am here recouperating as well as hoping to locate Gregarious. Have you heard from him at all? I am hoping he heads this way since this is where my family is, but I can not be certain. I will write again when I know more. Please give my best to everyone!

Your loving friend,
Sierra

Sierra sighed as she signed the letter. She missed Bath so much!

Quote:
Dear Troy,

I am hoping this letter will reach you. Please meet me at our secret childhood place at sun down tomorrow. I am in desperate need of your help.

Your ever affectionate sister,
Sierra

Sierra layed the quill down and sealed both letters. She then instructed Vanessa to find a messenger quickly. Vanessa ran down the stairs and down the street. Sierra watched her from the window in her room til she could not see her anymore.

I was walking down the street bymyself going to visit Jill. I looked on the ground and saw a parchment of paper floating around on the ground. Curiousity took me over and I picked it up and read it.

Quote:
Miss Rhiannon,

You are hereby charged with the murder of Yeoman Connor the Just of Shining city. You will be tried by a jury and possibly excuted for this offence.

It said more, but I didn't feel like reading more. I did read the date. It was from quite some time ago. I looked a few yards up and saw Rhiannon's house so I decided to go there instead and see what this was all about. I rapped on her door and stood there waiting for her.
Gregarious
I think I've heard enough.

Piran whirled toward the new voice. Gregarious could not see, the tears in his eyes from the heat so close so recently. He desperately tried to clear them but he was so weak and the pain was intense.

He could hear thrashing and then the sound of running feet. A horse? Perhaps and then a Thump followed by a wail. Piran was that Piran crying out? Suddenly his arms no longer held him and Gregarious fell face first to the ground unable to even try to lower his arms to break his fall. Someone gently rolled him over to his back and gently lifted his head. Water was being slowly into his mouth. Gregarious chocked slightly on the first dribbles but wa to tired to care and so thirsty it mattered not

Slowly my friend. I am Troy; take your time you are safe now.

OOC: Rhiannon is sick IRL... she doesn't know when she'll be well enough to get back to RPing, so in the meantime she asked me to stick her into retreat...
Rosalynn
Awakening at the first peep from the previously sleeping twins, Rosalynn rises feeling better than she was earlier, the pain in her head having eased up and allowed her restful sleep. After changing their nappies and then feeding them, she wraps them warmly in blankets and lays them in the pram. Pushing it before her, she goes outside to find Sajanzv hard at work. Smiling as she observes his handsome form toiling, she can't help but thank God for bringing him into her life. Strolling up to him, she gets his attention, "Sajan, my heart, the twins are ready for their proud pappa to take them out on the town for a bottle or two and to meet the townsfolk if you are?" She laughs as she finishes speaking. "When you return, I'd like to take a short walk as well. Town is a bit far for me to traverse to just yet."
-fromENSparhawk21
It seemed forever waiting for Rhi to answer the door so I looked through a window and no one was there. So shrugged and walked down the street to Rosalynn's place and place two big pieces of butchered pig meat in a basket at her front door. I knocked and then started walking to Jill's house acting like I didn't do anything. I looked up at the sunny sky and then look down at the snow on the ground feeling happy and joyful for some reason today. I got to Jill's house and knocked on the door to see if she was in. I almost forgot that I still had that parchment in my hand and quickly put it in my pocket before Jill noticed.

Strangefellow stumblied into the night from the tavern. Ellsbeth's engagement ring lays heavily in his stomach. He had drinken too much and his mind was cloudy. His heart ached and he not longer cared to see another sunrise.

He make his way through town and to the road that ran alongside the River Avon. He hear voices in his head calling him to the water's edge. As he drew closer and closer to the river, the siren's voice became louder and more commanding. He stopped on a bluff overlooking the river and looked down at the sparking water below. The siren's voice invited him to join her in the water.

Strangefellow closed his eyes and put his hands over his ears, not wanting to hear her songs any longer. He tried to picture his beloved Ellsbeth in his mind to ward off the temptation he was beginning to surcome to.

Strangefellow's body swayed back and forth trying to keep his balance. With each attempt, his feet inched dangerously closer and closer to the edge of the bluff. Without warning his body doubled up with pain and he emptied the contents of his stomach onto a clump of grass at the very edge of the bluff.

He saw the ring lying there in the grass. He reach out for the ring, but as he grasped it in his hand, he slipped and lost his balance. He fell head over heels down to the rocks below.

Strangefellow's back made contact with a large boulder. He knew this was the end of his journey. With extreme effort he looked at his hand that had held the ring. He relieved and comforted seeing it was still there. He feels his strength rapidly waning and his sight growing increasely darker.

"Forgive me Ellsbeth"is his final words. His body goes limp and the ring falls from his lifeless hand.
Gregarious
The interior of the small cave was cool and dark. No fire. At least his eyesight had cleared. Gregarious raises a hand to check just in case. Yes, they are both there. His entire body ached from various bruises, slashes and minor burns. But all in all, at least he was still here and apparently, mostly in one piece.

He recalled nothing of the trip here. Troy had loaded him into Piran's wagon and brought him somewhere. It seemed he was alone, but he felt safe for the moment. A platter of food and a flagon of water were near by. Gregarious ate sparingly and drank a little. His body rebelled but he was able to keep it all down. The effort had finished his present reserves of strength. He collapsed back into sleep.

Sierra........?
pnj
The sun slowly began its decent in the sky. Sierra quickly scrawled a note for Vanessa so she would not worry and headed out into the streets. The market place was quieting down as the shopkeepers closed their stands. A fruit stand caught her eye. There were two beautiful oranges left! She bought them quickly and stashed them in her bag. Troy would laugh when she told him of their significance.

The road narrowed and began its slow climb through the forest. Sierra enjoyed the brisk air as she took in the familiar sights. She saw the remains of the fort she and Troy had built together as children. The memories came flooding back and she wiped a stray tear that trickled down her cheek. Around the bend was the small pond where they would go swimming on hot summer days. She even found the tree that still bore her initials from so long ago. Her pace quickened as she grew impatient to embrace her brother.

Finally, Sierra stood outside of a small cave. From the outside it was barely perceptible. Large bushes blocked the entrance and one was required to crawl on hands and knees to enter. She remembered getting inside being much easier when she was a young girl! Once she snaked though the small opening, she stood up again and walked the familier path. Troy had left a torch for her nestled between some rocks. She was grateful for the light. Her steps echoed and she wondered if Troy heard them because he had not made any effort to let her know he was there. She came to the bottom of the small cave and set her bag down.

She peered around the area—then stopped. On the floor of the cave lay a man covered in a blanket. At first she thought it best to dart out of the cave…but then she looked at his face. Greg…? Was this a dream? She pinched herself several times til she was satisfied she was wide awake. Tears flooded her eyes in pure joy. She knelt beside him and kissed his lips softly.

“Wake up, my love.”
