The Colony of Bath

Gregarious
Thank you m'love.

Gregarious was exhausted from the effort, but he was not going to let what Piran had done to him disappoint Sierra when she wanted to dance.

Hopefully they could be in the castle some time tomorrow. Berit should be back in his clans land tomorrow as well as he had headed out early that day. So if all went well the boarder clash could be put to rest in a few days. Then there was just the matter of a family blessing and they could be headed home to Bath.

OOC My pleasure Rhiannon you didn't think I'd let you all down did you?

Rosalynn
Sajanzv, Rosalynn and the twins return home after the baptism ceremony, tired but happy. Rosalynn quickly feeds and changes the twins and puts them down for a nap then fixes a light repast for herself and Sajanzv to snack on while they snuggle together before the cheerful fire he builds to warm them. Rosalynn relaxes happily in her surroundings thinking nothing could make her life more perfect than it already is. Crossing her fingers she sends up a silent prayer of gratitude hoping that she isn't jinxing her good luck.

Troy escorted his sister and Gregarious back to the Radcliff castle. It was but a couple miles from the cave which was a relief to Greg who still was having a bit of trouble walking. They approached the entrace and Gregarious stopped and stared at the massive structure.

"You lived here?"

Troy laughed at Greg's reaction.

"It might look like a grand place, but it's just stone and mortar. It makes us no different than anyone else."

Sierra smiled up at her brother. He had turned into a fine young man.

Troy called to one of the guards to open the door and announce their arrival. They were ushered inside and asked to wait in a very large and grand chamber. A chandelier hung from the center of the ceiling and candles illuminated the side walls as well. A fire roared in a corner firplace which was large enough for Greg to stand upright inside. A deep canberry sofa and two chairs were positioned near the fire along with an intricately designed rug.

Greg looked about and began to feel ill at ease knowing his filthy appearance. Sierra's parents would be horrified if he sat on their sofa!

A side door opened and in walked a woman who could have been mistaken for Sierra's older sister. The dark waves of hair were pulled up into curls upon her head. Her skin was the same lovely fine ivory and bejeweled with the same saphire eyes. She was adorned in finely woven gown the color of emeralds. Emroidery and lace made the finishing touches along with her gold choker. She was obviously a lady of wealth and breeding.

The fine lady smiled warmly at the group and then ran to Sierra and embraced her fiercely. She began to sob as she held Sierra and Greg could here Sierra break down as well. After the two composed themselves, the fine lady held out her hand to Greg.

"Welcome Gregarious! It is good to finally meet you! I am Lady Cathrine Radcliff."

Greg bowed and took Lady Cathrine's hand and pressed it to his lips.
"Greetings Lady Cathrine. Your hospitality is deeply appreciated. I am your humble servant."

Greg readusted his weight as he stood back up and winced a little. Lady Catherine watched his face and frowned.

"Gregarious, you are obviously still injured! You are in no condition to be standing around."

Before Greg could protest, Lady Catherine had pulled a cord hanging at the far end of the room. Moments later two women entered--presumably servants, and curtsied to Lady Catherine.

"Joan, please take Gregarious and draw him a nice hot bath and prepare a room for him. Also, please send word to the apothocary to visit him tomorrow. Maybe he might have a useful salve. I do not like the looks of some of those nasty wounds he has. Merideth, please take Sierra and Troy upstairs and draw baths for them as well. Sierra, your room is just as you left it--get some rest, dear daughter."

She smiled at the three once more then turned to go.

"I will speak to the cook and let her know there will be three more for dinner. We will dine at six!"

The door closed behind her and the three were shortly thereafter wisked away to thier own respective baths. Sierra wondered at this reception. It almost seemed too good to be true. And where in the world was Father?
Gregarious
Holy crap.

Gregarious had heard Sierra talk of the family home. He had also never been to Scotland and only knew the less than favorable talk of the English. He had been expecting a guard house, maybe a tower. Not a real, defensable castle. Of course he had seen grander structures in England but this was an impressive building.

They will never agree to this. I haven't the pedigree to marry her. What was I thinking.

Gregarious slowly sank in the bath till nothing of him showed.

Perhaps I'll just stay under here.

Jill awoke, gasping for breath. The air in her cottage was cold and the tip of her nose icy, the fire having gone out in the night. The cold was not what woke her though.

A fire... who was the young man?... rolling green hills... such lovely jewelry!... back to the fire... and fear, such overwhelming fear and angst...

She tried to shake the dream off but couldn't, at least not right away. It was not the first such nightmare, but it was the worst yet. The overpowering feeling of fear and the desire to run would not leave. She wanted to go cuddle up with Spar, but the darkness outside forbade it. The middle of the night was not the time to go wandering around town. She got up, wrapped in the still warm blankets from her bed, and went to relight the fire. That much, at least, she could fix.

I was still awake at night to excited to sleep. I looked outside drinking some warm tea just staring. My friend Berit had written me telling the whole story about Greg and trying to get my father to stop attacking the wrong clan. I had already written him letter about Jill and I engaged to be married and that he is invited to the wedding. Not very tired still to go to bed I decided to head over to Jill's place to see if she was awake too like I was. I started treding through the snow some times swallowing snow flakes that were falling. I still felt warm inside when I came to her door and noticed that the fire was still going. Maybe she is awake I thought. I knocked on her door after getting enough courage to do so thinking she might smack me for waking her. I laughed to myself about that. I stood there waiting for her.

Jill jumped at the knock on the door. The residual fear from her dream amplified instantly and her heart caught in her throat. She approached the door carefully.

"Hello...?"

"It's me!"

"Spar? Oh, Spar!" She let him in and fell into his arms, not even letting him take off his cloak.

"Hey.. what's wrong?" He smoothed her hair.

"I... I just had a bad dream. It shook me up pretty badly."

"Wanna tell me about it?" He took off his cloak and sat down, settling her in his lap.

"I only remember pieces.. images.. not much really and definitely not anything that makes sense. I just woke up so scared. I wish I knew if it meant anything. And I wanted you so badly but I didn't want to go out in the middle of the night!"

"Well I'm here now. And nothing's going to get you, I promise."

She smiled a little. "Not even you?"

"Well...."

Rosalynn
Their bed being huge and extremely lonesome with Sajanzv off on patrol, the first time Rosalynn gets up in the night to feed the twins, she changes their nappies real quick-like and places first Tanvir then Rhoswen next to each other in the center of the bed, adds more firewood to the fire in the grate, then climbs back in bed and sitting up, she positions the babies to be able to nurse at the same time and to be covered by the blankets for warmth. Humming a soft lullaby, Rosalynn watches as their eyes grow drowsy and they fall to sleep once satiated. She lays Rhoswen gently to the side and places Tanvir's head at her shoulder and burps him. After laying him next to Rhoswen, Rosalynn picks the baby girl up and burps her as well then lays her on her belly on the bed and covering them, Rosalynn snuggles down next to them and falls to sleep herself, dreaming of the day when Sajanzv returns home from patrolling once more.

Sierra had forgotten what a nice relaxing bath was like. Her muscles melted in the steaming water and the scent of lavender soothed her mind. After soaking for a while, she began scrubbing herself and was assisted in washing her hair.

Her mother had laid a dress out for her to change into once she had dried off. The maid helped her put up her hair in little ringlets around her head. The dress laced up in the back and had the effect drawing attention to her cleavage. Sierra gasped at the sight of herself in the mirror. It had been such a long time since she felt the least bit pretty.

She finished her preparations and walked down the hall to the room Gregarious was staying in. The maid had informed her that Greg was given clothes to wear for dinner...hopefully they fit properly. She knocked on the door tenatively.

"Greg? Are you dressed, dear? May I come in?"
Gregarious
Gregarious was still lounging when the door opened.

"Greg? Are you dressed, dear? May I come in?"

Oh crap!

Gregarious scrambled for the bedroom and the coverlet there. Wrapping it around himself just as Sierra entered the room.

Ahhh. I'm not quite ready m'dear. Can I get 5 minutes?

A letter had been delivered to ArcaneJill’s house. She didn’t recognize the handwriting on the outside, but she gave the boy tuppence and he ran off.

Quote:
My dear sister,

How relieved I am to hear that you are alive! We all presumed you dead after the fire, though your body was never found. The family has been in mourning ever since. Rumors of you flew, but nothing was ever substantiated until a traveler from Bath came through town. How on earth did you end up in Bath? I hope this letter finds you well. Please do send word of how you are, and I hope to be reunited with you soon!

Your loving brother,
Pieterjan

Sister?... Fire?

Jill sat down suddenly, as the dreams she’d been having for months finally began to make sense.

Though she’d come to accept that she couldn’t really remember her past, and she’d made a life for herself in Bath, she knew that the day she found herself on a road leading to Bath couldn’t really be her earliest memory. She’d been in rags and penniless, but now she was comfortable and fairly happy. Not being able to remember her past bothered her, but she’d begun to accept it.

But now…

The fire… oh my god… that fire… the house on fire… my husband… my child… running… just running… not caring when hands and knees were raw from falling down… not caring when there was no more air to breathe… just running… trying to get away from the pain.

No wonder she hadn’t remembered. She didn’t want to remember even now. Tears ran silently down her face as she held the letter in her shaking hand.

Pieterjan… my baby brother!... always smiling… he was such a cheery child… no, no, he’s a young man now… how long have I been gone?

She sat in her house, staring at the floor, occasionally re-reading the letter. She cried now, and grieved as she had never grieved before, mourning for her husband, her son, and her lost life. She still didn’t remember everything, but this was enough.

Everything’s turned upside down! And Spar… oh, he’s just gone out of town! But … but will he even want me still, knowing I have to carry such grief? Knowing I’m a widow?

She shook her head. It grew dark as the day ended, and still she sat there, clinging onto the letter even after it was too dark to read it. She cried, sometimes silently and sometimes violently sobbing. But… despite the onslaught of grief and pain… she started to remember.

Jean had been going bout her business the last week. When she returned from her daily outing to the market and tavern she found several letters from her dearest Dunn.

As she read them she found that he would be home by the second of January. Her heart leaped into her throat and her eyes almost teared. Oh how she missed him. Even though he had been gone just a month it had felt a lot more than that.

Jean stored the letters in her draw in her desk. Just before she closed it she ran her slender fingers over them and pictured the first day they met in the tavern. A smile krept across her face and she said to herself, When you return my life will feel whole again.
