The Colony of Bath

Rosalynn
Rosalynn can't help but giggle at Meda's reply knowing herself to be one who leaps before looking also. As Meda sits up, Rosalynn scoots back and rises to her feet. She moves over to Sajanzv and just as she reaches him, there is a knock on the door. Since it is his home, he goes to answer it.

"Yes?" Sajanzv asks of the person at the door.
"I seek Lady Rosalynn. Do you perchance know of her whereabouts?" asks the messenger. "I have a message to deliver that is for her eyes only."

Rosalynn hears her name and steps forward in curiosity. She takes the note from the messenger, tips him two-pence and turns away to read the contents.

Reading and then rereading the words on the paper in shock and surprise, she issues a despairing moan, goes paler than earlier and collapses in a heap on the floor, her knees striking the wooden floor hard. The note flutters out of her hand. It reads:

Quote:

Information told only to you, leaked. Questioned and accused by him. Who did you tell?

The note is unsigned with no clues as to it's origin. Looking very much like a trapped animal, Rosalynn looks desperately around her for a path of escape. She had said nothing, yet she felt guilty, mostly for not divulging what she knew to the one person who meant so much to her.

Seeing that the door was left open when Sajanzv returned, Rosalynn leaped to her feet and made a mad dash for the door and escape, totally forgetting about Spot and all else.
Rosalynn
Rosalynn speeds down the lane towards her home, tears flowing freely by now more as a release valve than from hurt or pain. As she gets close to her home she looks towards her sheep pens, then to Spot's pen. Realizing Spot isn't in it hits her like a ton of bricks especially to have forgotten about her pet this way. Rosalynn notices something else though as she jogs towards the pens, Spot's isn't totally empty.

Stopping in surprise, she wipes her eyes to clear her vision thinking she is dreaming. But no, there in Spot's pen is the most beautiful, black stallion she has ever seen. Walking slowly so as not to spook him, she moves closer a step at a time, pausing inbetween steps. Wonderment replaces all other emotions as she gets close enough to reach out a hand to pet his nose.

Having been expecting a horse for some time, and for it just show up was a bit of a shock.

"For now you shall remain unnamed as I draw a blank," she says softly.

Her attention is fixed on the horse when from behind her...

walking down the road trontor has just finished a walk in the forest and having people surprised asking where he went for so long to the forest that day. He just shrugs and says he got lost hiking and heads into town where it has changed a lot and to the three trees he made to not be cut down and just lays down looking up at them.

Juan was felling a little better today, the past week had found him out of sorts and tired. No reason really that he could think of, he just didn't want to do anything. Every joint ached and his head throbbed in the mornings. He had got a farm job this morning and after his work was done he stopped in at the tavern for the first time in days and chatted a bit with Sajan, then wandered outside again. A good long walk is what he needed, too much time indoors had frayed his nerves. He headed off through the forest to give his muscles a good stretch. As evening fell he found himself walking back toward the streets of Bath, the newly whitened walls of the town glowing red with the low sunlight. As he passed Rosalynn's farm a loud call echoes into his deep thoughts. Glancing up he saw a great black horse gleaming with a copper sheen. Stopping in the road the young man finally knew what was wrong with him. He had not been around a horse in weeks, this was the first he had seen in the town. The steadiness and fire of the equine nature was the thread that knit him together without it he would slowly unravel. His eyes taking in the ballance and smooth lines of the stallion he let loose a long sigh and smiled. Just to see him was enough.
Rosalynn
Feeling the presence of someone behind her, Rosalynn turns around. Hoping her face isn't too smudged with dirt, she smiles and waves him over.

"Oh Juan, isn't he a beauty or does one say handsome when it's a stallion?" she laughs.

Curiously, Juan just stands silently looking closely at the horse. Rosalynn raises her eyes to his and sees the longing behind his admiration of the horse before them.

"Would you help me to name this fine beast, Juan and also would you like to ride him?" she hopes he'll agree and then maybe later on teach her to ride also.

For the past few days Lizzie had been feeling not like her normal self, almost unaware of everyone else. Walking in from the fields, her mind races, she is thinking about so many things at once.

With all the political unrest she feels as though Bath is starting to turn towards something she is unsure of, some thing Lizzie feels she may not want to face. Everyday it seems more arguments are breaking out in the taverns. She used to be able to stay out of it, but now Lizzie's options are moving or to keep trying her best to help Bath work peacefully. She thinks to herself, "What can I do though, I feel useless in this conflict, what is there to do."

When she moved from Sevenoaks she wasn't leaving anything behind, so it made no difference, but now there are things to consider. Her fields can be easily sold, but her friends in Bath would be very hard to leave. No more gathering at the tavern with friends, she would have to start again. Lizzie asks herself, "What is more important, holding out for friends in a situation that makes you uncomfortable or moving and having to find new friends", but then she thinks, " I could visit, it might work."

But Lizzie knows that someone has a certain pull on her heart, she knows she wants to leave, but despite the challenges, she knows she will most likely stay if only to get know him better and to be closer to him. She wishes she could tell him how she feels.

Feeling unusually torn again, Cawlen heads back fot that special spot he found before.

Finding another first, he lays down again.

If I knew her I could trust here, but how can I trust her untill I know her?

I'ts not like she isn't smart enough to lead me down a garden path or anything. So I suppose it's a matter of faith.

But faith? I suppose it is not insane to trust yourself, but others outside that? I dont take all of my own council who am I to open to another?

And come to that who am I to be worthy of anothers faith?

Ahh it is a strange world I find myself in.

Juan caught his breath. "I would love to be able to ride him, M’ady. As far as a name……"
Juan and Lady Rosalynn stood discussing various names for a few minutes and finally Juan said, "Neptune!".
"I like it", said Rosalynn and stroked his neck. "Neptune."
Juan was elated as he walked back home that evening and stared at the ceiling that night thinking of the unexpected ways of life before falling into a calm sleep.

Early in the morning Juan found a letter on his windowsill that he most have missed the night before. It was a very rare thing for him to get mail. Sitting down with it he hurriedly broke the seal, which he recognized at once as that of his father and began to read:
Quote:
(translation)
Dear Brother,
I am writing to you on behalf of our father, who wishes for all of us to gather at the family estate as soon as may be. He is quite ill these past few months. Elvira, as you know has already set out on her way to England to visit you two weeks ago. I do not think there is time for you to wait for her. Please do your best to make accommodations for her upon her arrival and come quickly.
Sincerely,
Raul Herrero

Juan set back with a pale and troubled face and swallowed his glass of water at a gulp. How life could move so swiftly! He stood up and paced about thinking of what needed to be done before leaving. Abruptly sitting down again he dug out his writing implements and dipped his pen in the ink. His cousin, Elvira, could take weeks to get here, or only days: so unpredictable was the shipping travel. He wrote a note to his cousin and then began to write down the names of the people that could be trusted in the town, instructions for care of the farm, location of his savings and other necessary information. Dropping it into an envelope along with his brother’s letter he sealed it and set it on the table. His crops were in a good way and would not suffer if left untended for a little while. He then went down to the Light’s Out where he was glad to find the Lady Rosalynn. He explained his situation and she promised to watch out for his cousin. Off to the market then, buying up some supplies for Elvira and for his own journey.
There wasn’t much else to do, his position was a simple one. She was a smart girl and would figure things out easily enough. He would love to say farewell to all of his friends but the though of seeing his father was burning harder in his heart and spurred him into swift action. By the afternoon he shouldered a light pack and set off toward the coast where he would take passage to his birth country.
Rosalynn
With the horse named and knowing he'll be exercised regularly, Rosalynn says goodbye to Juan for the time being and having calmed considerably, she heads back to the mayor's house to apologize and relieve him of her pet, Spot.

She stops for a short time in her tavern to check on things and is surprised when Juan joins her there. He hurriedly explains about his father's illness and about his cousin, Elvira, coming to work his farm while he is away. Rosalynn assures him that she will watch out for Elvira and pray he has a safe journey. Once he departs, Rosalynn leaves shortly thereafter and continues on her way to the mayor's house.

[i]As she approaches his ranch, Spot sees her and lets out a happy, "oooooink!!' in greeting. Rosalynn laughs and tells her,
"Patience my precious piggy. Let me talk with the mayor first." and with that said she goes to the door which still stands askew from earlier. Flushing from embarassment at her tears and abrupt departure earlier, Rosalynn peeks in the door.
Sajanzv
Sajanzv is at his desk, busy working on his ledgers. Suddenly he hears a noise near the door. Turning around, he sees Rosalynn standing in the doorway, with Spot by her side.

Quickly, he is on his feet and takes her hand and leads her to a comfortable diwan. Then once they are seated, he waits for her to proceed for she seems to have something to say to him.

How Eire dealt with the ONE
Rosalynn
Rosalynn smiles as the mayor comes towards her. As he takes her hand to guide her inside, she says quickly to Spot, “Stay put Spot. Pigs even pets aren’t allowed inside homes.” Spot looks a bit disgruntled but seems to understand as she stays on the porch as Rosalynn enters.

After getting settled on the divan, she raises sky-blue eyes to him. She pauses as she tries to formulate the words she wishes to speak. She can’t help but admire him from where she sits, as she’s sure he’s been under worse pressure than what caused her flight. She decides to start in telling him of the horse.

“I’m the proud owner of a stallion named Neptune now. He was delivered while I was away and lo, there he was when I arrived there earlier. Juan helped me to name him. And speaking of Juan, he is to return to his father’s bedside in Spain and his cousin Elvira will be here to take care of his fields.”

Rosalynn stutters to a stop as her eyes lift to Sajanzv's, her heart leapt into her throat or felt like it as it was beating so hard. She swallows hard and continues.

“I sincerely apologize for my tears and abrupt departure earlier. I become overly upset when wrongfully accused of something and at a loss as to how to prove what is true. I’ve no idea where that note came from or to what it pertains which makes it all the more confusing. I told myself after the last time you and I spoke I would never again keep anything from you. Even though I haven’t, overwhelming guilt was felt by me and I could only imagine how it looked.”

“As for before that, regarding Spot and my arrival so unceremoniously, I…I …I’m at a loss for words as I only meant to parade her so to speak. I had no idea she would take off like that or that she would stop so suddenly.” Rosalynn reaches for his hands as she asks, “Are you yourself injured? I’ve no idea what happened after I was skyborn.”

*After his arrival 3 day were passed...and the problems for the young Hector weren't few...first of all he needed a job to get enought money to feed himself...he decided to work in the mine in the beginning "After I will talk to the Count first Secretary...people told me that he could give me a land...maybe I could have a wheat field..."...so the day after he acted is plan and, after a LOOOOOOONG conversation (while Hector was asked about his past and his willing for the future) the secretary said "Uhm...I like you sir...maybe with a field you could serve good Bath and, expecially, the Country" Hector was at the seven sky "Finally...a land..."
So he came back home and wait for a letter from the secretary...he needed THAT paper to claim a land in Bath...but the letter didn't arrived...one...two...three days..."There is something wrong...I'll go to the secretary again..."...But this traved was futile...The secretary just said him "Sorry sir...but now the country has to tell me if I could give you a land in Bath...you have to wait..." Hector felt very sad "Just wait....just wait...probably i will wait a lifetime...it's crazy...aaaah...stupid burocracy..."
At home...he felt sad as ever...he knew that he would be without land for long...he was even thinking about the idea to leave Bath...but then he thought at his father words "Only the weak people decide to abandon themselves to their destiny...the strong people continue to hold on even in the worst situations!"...he reborned...he knew what to do in that moment...he had to continue..."I will work in the mine...or maybe i will help other cityzen in their work...I WILL HOLD ON!"
Later he decided to visit a tavern for the first time in Bath "I need to eat...and expecially a beer...it's too much time that i don't drink a good one"...but there were a lot and he didn't know what to choice..."Well...at least i will have the time to try them all...lets choice one...that one...the Light's out Saloon" He entered...it was pretty empty...just few customers drinking and having fun...and a person looking to a letter, he was pale and sad "He looks desperate...what could happen to him???"...Hector wasn't a very open person, but in that moment felt that he had to try to calm him and to let him smile again...he went to the bartender and ordered two beers...so he sits and the table of the "Misterious sad man" (as Hector called him in his mind) "Ehi man...I think that this beer is for you..." The man at the table look at him as if would say "leave me alone...I don't want to talk"...or maybe "Probably he has drunk too much beer!!!"...but after he looked at his eyes and he understood that he wanted just to talk..."You don't have to offer me this beer...I have enought to permit it myself...but...thanks anyway!"
"It's a pleasure...it's the first time i drink in this tavern...and I need somebody that help me to see if this beer is good or not!"
The man smiles "At least he is not drunk" he thought...they drank the beer "Aaaaah...this is a good beer indeed" Hector said and the man replied just yes..."Uhm...I have never seen your face before..." "Right, Hector replied, I am pretty new of the town..."...the man looked carefully to him "My name is Juan...Juan Herrero...and you are..." "Hector of Kalimbor...but everybody call me HectorFranz..."*

(To be continued...for me it's lunch time in RL...and i am HUUUUNGRY!!!! )

(Aaaaah...now I feel better and I can countinue...)

*They talked a long...about themselves, the city, the politic and beer...after a while they began to open each other...in fact Hector told Juan about his problem with the field "Eeeeeh...I am sorry my friend..but i think that you have to wait long before getting a land...the burocracy here isn't fast and problems like this need a lot of time to be solved...". "Yes...I already know that...but i will live anyway...not rich as a king...not respected as Count...and not with a field as a land owner, too...but as a stupid, poor, happy vagrant...with a beer in a hand, talking with nice people like you!"
Juan smiles and Hector was happy about that..."Aaaah...you smile again, my friend...we need to celebrate...Bartender...can we have two other beers??? We need to celebrate...and no beer...no party!!!" The wait wasn't long...they raised up their beers cheering up at the health and at the life!!!*

Elvira walked along the quiet dusty lane and looked about as she entered the pretty little town. Well, here I am. Now, where did he say the house was? She unfolded a piece of paper that she carried in her slim hand and read the address again. Ah! That must be it over there.
When her light knocking brought no response she let herself in and set her bundle down on a convenient chair. I'll just wait here and surprise him when he comes in. Looking about for something to do she shakes her head in disgust at the messiness of men and begins to straighten up. On the corner of the table (the only clear spot) was an envolope that she scooped up and was about to deposit in the neat pile of other papers that she had already made when the writing on it caught her eye. "Elvira" was written in her cousins large hand. Curiously she opened it and laid the contents out on the table. Picking up the note first she read it and he chin puckered. Here she was in a strange country and he had to go running of before she even got there. Her face softened however when she continued and read the reason for his sudden departure. Of course he had to go, he and his father had always been so close. Now, here is the letter that he spoke of and the instructions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After freshening up, unpacking, and generally making herself at home she went outside to have a look at the fields. The wheat looks fine but it looks as if those vegetables will need to be picked in the next few days. I'll be glad of that. I haven't had a fresh salad for it seems like ages. That food on the ship was quite tasteless. I'll have to have to figure out how to get a worker when they're ready. She then decided to stroll over to the tavern that Juan had written of and see if anybody was there. When she walked in she saw a dark haired young man sitting at a far table with his eyebrows screwed up over some papers that he was working on. "Hello", she said timidly. After a few seconds he looked up and said. "Greetings, you must be Juan's sister. Rosalynn told me to expect you. I am Sajan, major of Bath." Elvira curtsied and laughed. "Actually I'm his cousin, but it's close enough." A squeaking noise from the direction of the door announced someone's entrance. She turned and saw a tall Lady coming towards them. The Lady smiled and greeted them. Sajan introduced her as Rosalynn. "Very pleased to meet you, Lady Rosalynn. I am Juan's cousin. He spoke about you in his letter, that you would 'help me out if I get stuck anyhow'." Elvira laughed at Juan's words and they had a good time chatting in the tavern before Elvira decided it was high time for her to get some rest so that she could be up early the next morning.
