The Colony of Bath

pnj
Sierra gathered up her things and petted Luke, her cat, before she set off for the workshop that afternoon. She openned the door and gasped in surprise to find Giangio waiting on her doorstep.

"Goodness dear! You scared me!" Her eyes then fell to the scarlet blooms he held out to her. Sierra's lips turned up into a broad smile and she brought the roses to her nose and inhaled deeply.

Quote:
"some flowers for the most beautiful flower I hope will grow on my heart's garden..."

"Oh Giangio! You DO say the sweetest things!"

She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him close to her. His arms quickly went around her waist and they stood like that for a long moment. When she drew back, her hand gently caressed his cheek and he turned his head to kiss her palm.

"Thank You...for the lovely flowers and for Your thoughtfulness...You are very kind to me indeed."

Giangio followed her back inside as she wanted to put the flowers in some water. She put all but one in the water and set one aside. Then she arranged her hair and cut the last rose a bit shorter and stuck it in her hair. The red rose against her raven tresses had a very exotic look to it and Giangio smiled in approval. She came and stood close to him...

"You like??" Her eyes flashed at him coyly and smiled...awaiting his response.
Rosalynn
Rosalynn looked at Sajanzv, hurt filling her eyes....as the tears threatened, she turned blindly and ran out of the Rubber Ducky tavern. In her flight, she came close to bowling over a patron who had been about to enter the tavern at the time. She murmured a hurried, "Pardon me" before continuing her headlong rush to get away. Incredulity and disbelief warred among the multitude of emotions pouring through her. Incredulous at the nasty remarks directed towards her and disbelief that they came from him to begin with.

She reaches home and calms herself, wiping at the tears streaming down her face trying to stem the flow even briefly before opening the door to address the sitter. All is quiet for which she is thankful as it means the twins are asleep. After seeing the girl out and on her way home, Rosalynn leans her head against the closed door, giving in to the resumption of the tears from earlier, sobbing quietly, mourning for all that has been lost.

Once she is spent, she replaces her day dress with a nightgown and after checking on the twins in their cradles, she lies down and tries to clear her mind to sleep. After much time passes, she finally succeeds although sleeping fitfully at best.

The twins, as was their wont, were up with the dawn, and Rosalynn up with them. Feeling the worse for wear, she puts on a cheery face for the darling duo as she gets them ready for the day ahead. After breakfast, she settles them in their pram and then heads outdoors towards the road and turns towards town. She had wanted to stop to see Spot, but there was a list of tasks she wanted to get done first so she could spend more time with her erstwhile pet.

What hope she had held that things would work out were dashed the previous night. She'd done as advised in giving time to sort things out and last night seems to be the end result. Shaking her head trying to clear the darkening thoughts threatening to intrude, Rosalynn turns her attention to looking around her and watching the twins as she pushes the pram along the road. Greeting the few people she meets along the way, she hopes they don't see how haggard and spiritless she'd become lately. The latest events had definitely taken their toll on her even though she'd done her best to prevent it. Being in limbo seems to do that to a person.

Entering town, she crosses the square to the town stables and enters. Her business there is conducted quickly and shortly a wagon and a pair of mismatched (color-wise) horses are brought around front. While that is being set up, she pushes the pram over to the nearest tavern and goes inside. She talks to several of the men present at the time and hires them for the day giving them instructions to meet her in front of the stables shortly. The horses are hitched to the wagon when she returns and with the stable master's help, Rosalynn gets the twins settled in the back of the wagon and the pram tied to the side of it. Dressed in her shirt and trousers, Rosalynn has no trouble in climbing up to the seat of the wagon, the stable master hands her the reins. With a flick of the reins to the horses backs, she heads the wagon back down the road from town.

To be continued shortly...
Rosalynn
The wagon and the accompaniment of men make their way back up the road to the house. Pulling up outside, the pram is left tied to the side of the wagon for the time being and one of the men helps Rosalynn to carry the twins back inside. She spreads a quilt on the floor, puts down some of their toys for them and gets them settled before addressing the men.

She looks wistfully around what used to be home that was no longer. Her gaze turns to the twins momentarily, a sad smile crosses her lips. Thankfully she is that they are too young to remember much from this time and their father's frequent absences and neglect on their part. Returning to the business at hand, she says to the men, "My farmhouse is furnished for the most part, so little needs to be put in the wagon, aside from the twins' cradles, the cabinets with their clothing along with clothing, and my clothing as well. I'll pack a few of the dishes I'll need but otherwise, nothing else needs be moved."

While the men set to work, Rosalynn goes to one of the cabinets and pulls out one of the crates used when she first moved here, what seems like a lifetime ago. Carrying it into the kitchen, she begins packing the few dishes used for the twins especially, adds a few knick-knacks to the contents of the crate then carries it out to the wagon and sets it in back. The men, having gathered what few items needing to be moved having loaded them into the wagon lounge around it while waiting for her to finish. Going back in, she goes room-to-room to be sure she's got everything going with and returns to the livingroom. Although wanting to cry copiously inside, she forces a smile on her lips as she gathers the twins up and carries them outside.

"Would one of you gentlemen be kind enough to shut the door for me please? And could someone drive the wagon so that I may sit in back with Tanvir and Rhoswen? I can give directions as we go on how to reach the other house. It isn't far from here." Hearing the words aloud startles Rosalynn as she wonders how far would be far enough nowadays? One of the men closes the door and she jumps, literally startled that time. It sounded so....final. Her heart sinks as in this case, it is. The twins from where she has them each perched on one of her hips, look up quizzically at her. She laughs softly and hugs them to her before one of the men takes them from her long enough for her to climb in the wagon and settle herself comfortably, then hands them to her. She sits them down beside her, then looks to see the man climb up in the driver's seat and take the reins into his hands. After giving the first instructions towards her previous home, Rosalynn turns back to busy herself with the twins, teaching them to clap their hands and trying not to wince at the memory of the twins calling the men present 'dada', chalking it off as that being one of a few intelligible words they know just yet.

They make it only a short ways down the road when Rosalynn yelps, "WAIT! Oh my Jah!" She scrambles out of the wagon and runs back to the ranch. Dashing into the stable she quickly saddles Neptune and leads him out of his stall, leaves the barn and goes to Spot's pen with a rope in her free hand. After tying Neptune's rein-ends to the fence loosely, she enters Spot's pen and fashions a halter of sorts with the rope around Spot and leads her out of the pen. Grabbing Neptune's reins freeing them from the fence, she leads both animals out to the road and to the wagon, ties them securely to the back of the wagon and climbs back up into it herself.

"Onward ho! I think I actually have everything this time." Laughing, she settles back into the wagon to enjoy the short trip.

Valatan throws the last bags of flour on his rented wagon, it rises in a cloud of white dust and he throws a saddlebag on top. With a broad smile and little to no paitence Valatan hops atop the wagon and cracks the whip

'To Lichfield!"

(OOC: Sorry I though this would have happened later, bye all!)
Arcanejill
Jill looked around her room at Sierra's house. It had been very kind of her friend to let her stay, but it was time to move on and the new colonies were a wonderful opportunity. Her ankle had healed enough that she could get around without the cane, but not so much as to be able to lift and carry things, so she had hired a couple people to follow her with her goods, workshop, and livestock.

She hugged Sierra "Thank you so much! You made everything easier after I left Sparhawk, and you've been a very dear friend. I will be back to visit!"

After a few more words with Sierra, she took a deep breath and headed out to the waiting horse.

I guess I'll head to the new county.. but how do I pick which colony?

As she settled into the saddle, a horse and wagon with a determined looking rider passed by hurriedly. She set into a brief pursuit, then pulled up alongside.

"Hey Val, wait up! Where are you headed?"
Gregarious
The stores from the town, given for safe keeping were set way for future sue. The town hall treasury was secured where none could find it. The paperwork was never ending. Mistress Mayoress Rosalynn had trusted him with far more than she normally set on one person.

You know Gregarious, this would be a good time to retire to the south of France I think...

Gregarious smiles to himself, not the first time that had crossed his mind.

It had taken a while to organize everything there was so much of it this time. As he is arriving home from these duties Giangio can be seen approaching. Raising a hand in welcome Gregarious can see he is agitated, very unusual for the normally congenial man

The Mayors gone.

Not quite getting it Gregarious stares at Giangio as if he had been speaking his native Italian.

Gone? Gone where, when will she be back?

I don't know sir, she is gone, she has resigned as mayor.

Why,...why...why..why do these things always happen on the weekend. do they not know we are supposed to rest on Sunday?

All right I will need to get permission from Bristol to take the town hall, by force if necessary. I will ask Matthur to stand down the marshals. You gather your most trusted, I will do the same. Meet me in an hour and we will see who we have and who we do not. In the interval I will send a pigeon to Castle Bristol and hopefully within a few hours we will have our authorization to take back our town.

Off you go then. Watch for strangers in the streets, predators have a way of smelling blood in the air.
ellsbeth
Hoofbeats poounding down the well travelled road as Ellsbeth heads to the castle from having dropped off supplies Bristol needed and wanting to ascertain the fooder crisis of the county was well in hand and that the books were in order in the Trade Ministers office.

She arrived to a flurry of activity in council chambers and found word had been sent from Home and the Mayor had left her post. Ells hurriedly spoke with the Duke and then cast her lot in the vote and took the decree in hand and moved swiftly to the Castle doors to mount the great black Beast who would bear her safely and quickly home.

She rode off in a flurry of skirts and cape and dug her heels into Thunders side...leaning forward in the saddle and her voice against his ear....

HOME Thunder...Ride!

He moved beneath her and they headed through the woods deciding to take the most expeditious route as opposed to the safest.

Soon the walls of Bath are seen and Ells pushes Thunder for the last mile, her eyes searching the landscape.

She meets Giangio and Pulls Thunder up short as the sit astride and exchange words and she nods in agreement and shows him the parchment she has at her side.

Giangio waves her off toward town and she hurries to the SAS office to find Greg and place the parchment in his hands....

Breathless she pulls up to the office and is off Thunder and hitting the dusty ground as He comes striding out of the office door....

M'Lord.....Word from the Duke....assemble our citizens!
Gregarious
Gregarious reads the instructions granting him authorization to act, allowing his other hand to linger in contact with the messangers for just a moment.

Excellent, my thanks m'lady for getting this here in such haste. Thunder is a magnificent beast. Now to round up those I can find and secure us the Town Hall.

Gregarious adjusts his sword on his hip and strides toward the town gate.
Giangio
Giangio is seating in the mayor's chair at the Town Hall and his mind is flashing back to that long day and night.....

He was about to tell Sierrajane she was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen and that the flower in her hair really was looking great but not as much as her beautiful eyes, when he got sidetracked by a fair amount of commotion coming from the nearby road...he looked throu the windows and saw a whole bunch of people leaving town with their cart, animals, families...he turned around, gently caressed Sierrajane's cheeck and headed for the door whispering.."sorry....I gotta go now..something is goin' on"....closing the door and running to the streets was a matter of seconds.....he stopped in the middle of the road staring at the cart leaving in the distance with an horse slowly following them..."No...It can't be..it is Rosalynn leaving...."...he run all the way to the Town hall and find a note from the Mayor saying.."I am sorry I have to resign, but I have to take ahold of my life"...he stepped outside with his brain running wildly so much he was not realising that there were a lot of people moving out of town..he finally saw Greg and moved towards him frantically.......after speaking with him he felt relieved but still concerned....he gathered his most trusted friends and comrades at his house and after meeting with Ells they moved to meet Greg in his SaS office...got the Authorisation they waited for they moved and got to the Town hall practically defenceless almost at dawn.....no one hurt or wounded..orders were clear..nobody must be touched.. Giangio opened the Town hall windows to see the raising sun together with his friends feeling the brisk fresh air he breathed at full lungs overviewing their loved town that was about to start another working day almost without knowing everything that has happened.....................................

"back to Mayor??"....Giangio wasn't suprised by Matthur coming and waking him up from his daydream..."..Good marshal You are!!...we took town without resistance"..Giangio hugs Matthur and smiles...he knew that those orders came straight from the Castle of Bristol....."good work, well done my friend.Bath is in safe hands again!!!...let's go get some ale...I am thirsty!!"

Last couple of day's was really hard for Matthur he was a little bit dizzy and didn't know what exactly is happening in town. Bath was full of rumors but he wanna know what is really happening, he was wondering to who he need to contact when pigeon brings letter from Lt. Gregarious with orders. Now when situation was more clearly he didn't wonder any more and run ahead town hall when he hopefully find his friends Greg , Gi and others who care and love their town and do everything to defend it...

On another day when sun rise and citizens went back to their homes and work, Matthur enters Town Hall which was cleaned a little bit and went straight ahead to Mayor Office, he knew that he'll see sitting on Mayor chair his good friend Giangio and everything will be more calm and clearly.

Hi there my friend! There's lot of work to do but now i think we can have a little break for couple of beer's...

tweety sat at the front of her house with napoleon on her lap sleeping, rubbing his fur, she looked down at him smiling.Over the last few days, so much things had happened in her hometown, her mind was still reeling with the events. the town now had a new mayor, she had recieved orders from her Lt and had followed them along with her other sas members

i surly hope that we are in for a time of calm*laughs*

she said to herself, looking down at napoleon as he moved slightly in her lap,she had just returned from the tavern where she had met and sat with some of her friends, upon leaving the tavern she had left with a new responsibility of being the town's chief mentor. it was a job she was happy to fill as it meant that she would deal with the new citizens entering the town. we need to get Bath back she thought, this should be fun, she thought smiling as she looked out at the town and its people passing
pnj
The world was spinning so fast...she and Giangio were standing together in the living room one moment and the next, he was excusing himself and leaving in a haste. Sierra went to the door and looked to the road and saw many carts and wagons on the road...no doubt to the capital or the new colonies.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the situation became much more personal. Jill came up to Sierra and informed her she was leaving for the new colonies and bade her goodbye. Sierra stood stunned for a moment before recovering her power of speech:

"Leaving?! But this is so sudden! Oh Jill! I will miss you so very much!"

The two friends embraced and Jill promised to keep in touch and let her know how things were in the new town. She then mounted her horse and took to the road...following closely after Sierra's cousin Valatan.

She stood and watched until both JIll and Valatan turned the bend and cold no longer be seen. A cry of anguish caught in her throat and she covered her mouth with her hand. Loneliness washed over her as she watched the road...so many friends leaving...

A commotion could still be heard from the town center. What could be going on??? There was nothing left at the house that could not wait till later, so she picked up her skirts and hurried into town to see what was becoming of Bath...
Gregarious
Well, I'm not impressed with the town defenses. I will have to talk to Matthur about that. This was far to easy. Perhaps I have been lax in my training lately.

Rosalynn and Sajanzv gone. Arcanejill his first new friend in Bath, Meda, Varnifane the man that had baptized him, Sparhawk...where are you my captain...Sir_Winsalot his brother.

The list of lost ones was getting to long to contemplate. Upheaval was becoming second nature to him lately. Attacks on friends and loved ones no longer surprised him. Good people doing good work seemingly unappreciated.

Does my work make any difference?

Well at least I can give control of town hall to the right man. I didn't mess that up.

I've been up to long, I think a good long rest is in order. To many responsibilities lately, to many fires to put out. I hear the South of France is nice....
Rosalynn
Having received disturbing news from her former home, Rosalynn sends a missive with a messenger to have it tacked up on the town bulletin board for all to read. She's dismayed at the actions of some and proud as could be of those she'd known she could count on to carry Bath forward. The messenger arrives in the town square and after doing a little sight-seeing, he finds the bulletin board and tacks the missive up on one of the pegs protruding from the board.
Quote:
Dear Citizens of Bath,

I sincerely apologize for leaving when I did. That which was done was not done with malicious intent nor a desire to harm those within Bath. Change is unsettling and frightening when abrupt, but it is an eventuality. Why some have chosen to ridicule and besmirch my name and reputation is petty and beyond my understanding as to their reasoning. They are greatly mistaken in thinking that by doing so it makes them out to be the better person, it doesn't. If it makes them feel better about themselves to belittle others in the doing, have at it. I'd be wary of those people in the future though as they are quite apt to stab more people in the back and stomp on more as they grab for the brass ring. Actions speak louder than words. The focus should be on the positive and it is highly doubtful anything positive was accomplished in those people's pasts.

My decision to move was selfish in a way. I desperately desired to save my marriage and friendship with a man I greatly admire and respect. The strain and tension between us helped to fuel a string of debilitating headaches and created a sense of hopelessness within. In actuality, I was in survival mode. It was risky, the hope that he would come also, but if I'd stayed, Rosalynn would have died completely inside, and for her, life wouldn't go on but become a tedious chore, each day a struggle. Her spirit was defeated and the future dismal at that point.

If I'd truly wanted to harm the citizens or town of Bath, it would have been possible. The thought never once entered my mind as that was not the intent. I couldn't remember how long it would take for a replacement, so tried to prepare for as long a time as possible. I over-stocked the Ducky so that it wouldn't run out of food, I put out 10 axes in the forest all the while praying that they wouldn't go blunt any time soon as there is a trader coming from Lewes for wood soon and bringing 3 new axes as well, sold our excess wool to the TM for Wiltshire, after canceling my grant, bought more iron from the TM to put in a grant so that it could be put on the market and available to the blacksmiths in the interim, then when all was in the TH, put together a grant with the max funds allowed, issued it. Then the real work began. Working with the grant holder, over 3,000p were transferred from the TH to his grant so ensure its safety for Bath, and with the inventory included, there was availability to stock the market as needed.

I've never laid claim to perfection, I'm human and have faults just as does everyone else. Muddying my name serves no purpose but to cast doubt on the ones doing so. Harm was not the intent behind my actions. When the fun in doing something is no longer there, action and possibly change is called for. Excuses are plentiful I'm sure, but I'm not in need of any. My only regret is the leaving behind of some very dear friends in whose very capable hands I left things.

I wish ya'll well now and in the future. Giangio was a great mayor before, is now and I'm sure, will be in the future. He's a grant holder which is a trusted position and not awarded to everyone and his brother, nor is it awarded haphazardly.

There is a spectacular view of the sea from here. The sound of the waves brings a peace to one's soul that can't be found anywhere else. The rainbow must be close by.

Very truly yours,

Lady Rosalynn, wife and sweetheart of Sajanzv
Mother to Tanvir and Rhoswen

The messenger studies his handiwork, nods in satisfaction and turns away from the board, returns to his horse and gallops out of town.
Tweetygirl
napoleon having woken up tweety decided to take him for a walk in the town.upon entering the town, she saw a huddle of townspeople gathered around what seemed to be a notice to the town, waiting until most persons had left, tweety walked up to the notice, upon reading it she realized that it was from her former mayor, upon finishing, tweety turned from the notice with a smile on her face

well i am glad that Rosa sent that notice, maybe now her name will stop being dragged through the mud and we can go on with our lives in bath

she said whispering to napoleon, as they made their way to the market, stopping to talk to some friends she saw along her way
