The waves lapped at the sides of the ship with a regularity that had lulled more than one tired sailor to sleep. They stood at their posts, somewhat, one slumping against the mainsail, another leaning against the railing, another squatting next to the bucket of soapy water where the deckhand had been cleaning the pristine wooden planks just one more time. The captain at the helm saw all, but kept her eyes sharply towards the island that rapidly loomed before the swift little ship. The winds were constant and steady, the flagship of the Royal English Navy gliding with ease over the dark blue waters that separated the Isle of Anglesey from the mainland. The captain of the ship kept her peace all the while, because these men and women had made the fastest trip up the coast of Wales that she had ever seen, surprising even the captain herself who had demanded that they make for home with all due speed after such a lengthy stay in southern England. The sailors had taken her words so much to heart that they had sliced through the waters with alarming speed, outpacing every ship that had come near them as easily as if they were dancing upon the waves. Persephone might well be small, but, by all the saints, she was fast. And the Princess Regent at the helm smiled as she thought of it. Let the sailors sleep. They had done well, and she was almost home.

Persephone glided into the harbor at Beaumaris slowly, the deckhands having risen with gentle taps to their shoulders by the Princess, who only smiled at them in forgiveness before returning to the helm. They stopped in the docking bay reserved for the Princess' own ship, sails unfurled in billows of white canvas with the royal arms emblazoned on them. She could hear the calls in the distance even as the plank was being lowered, calls from sailor to messenger, from messenger to constable, from constable to keep. All along the streets of Beaumaris town, word was being spread that the Regent of England had returned home.

She made one last check of the ship before disembarking, leaving the vessel in the capable hands of her first mate. The man bowed smartly and then began barking orders at the sailors who remained. Jennet smiled at the familiar scene and made her way down the plank, stepping solidly onto the docks and accepting a grey woolen cloak lined with red fox fur from her lady in waiting. The night air bit through all but the thickest material, swirling off the wavy sea. She tossed the cloak over her shoulders and fastened the silver clasp at her neck. The hood fit snugly over her head, obscuring her features even as she grasped the reins of her white mare and climbed into the saddle. Whether it was horse or waves, it seemed the Regent was always traveling these days and she laughed at how for more than two months her feet had barely touched the ground.

The large traveling party took off with all haste, hooves pounding up the sea coast of the beautiful island, thundering into the night. Beaumaris Castle loomed in the distance, commanding the countryside. Waves rushed in and out of the moat that had been dug around the castle with the tide, belying its connection directly to the sea. The flags of the de Holland family and of the lady that now owned this magnificent castle fluttered softly in the breeze. The very walls seemed to breathe in and out with the rhythm of the life that lived within. Beaumaris had a soul, and it was in harmony with that of the lady who now called Anglesey home. Grey stone towers rose four stories into the sky, topped with battlements and the men at arms who patrolled here. Some were dressed in the red and silver livery of their lady, some in the red and blue of the de Hollands, but still others wore black with a white rose...members of the Black Company.

The party pulled up to the roadway that led to the drawbridge of the castle and reined in.

“Who goes there?” the constable called down from the walls.

Jennet grinned softly and drew back her hood, her crown, understated though it was, glittering in the torchlight.

“Your Royal Highness!” the man exclaimed. “Drop the bridge, you flea bitten lot!” he cried out, and the sounds of metal chains dropping through metal and stone to release the bridge was the answering reply. The party rode in through the arched stone gatehouse, candles flickering through the halls in iron and glass cages to shield them from the wind casting a warm and welcoming light over the cobblestone path.

Jennet accepted a hand from a sandy haired Welsh lad with a crooked but bright grin and hopped down from the saddle with easy grace.

“Welcome home, Your Highness. Your rooms are ready and the cook informs me that supper will be served in the Great Hall at your leisure.”

“Excellent, Rhys,” the Princess replied, “thank you.”

She nodded at the young man's bow and watched his retreating back as he headed for the kitchens to deliver news of the Princess' arrival. The stars were out tonight and the sky was clear. She handed the reins of her equine companion to the stable lad and stopped to gaze a moment standing in the inner courtyard of the great sea fortress of Beaumaris Castle, taking in the smell of the sea and the grass beneath her feet. She breathed in deeply, closing her green eyes and savoring it a moment.

Finally, finally home.

"Your Royal Highness," Rhys said, entering the Great Hall as the Princess was finishing the evening meal, and bowing politely, "the Lady Great Chamberlain is visiting the County Palatine. Mairwen mentioned that she had seen the notice on the welcome board a few days ago."

"Did the Viscountess happen to mention where she was staying while she was in Chester?" Jennet inquired, dabbing at the corners of her mouth delicately with an embroidered linen napkin.

"No, Your Highness, though the latest dispatch messenger did note that the lady was in Beeston at last accounting."

Jennet rose and called for her small writing desk, a curious little wooden lap desk with a hinged lid that contained a sheaf of paper, an inkwell, and a metal tipped writing pen. She pulled a page out of the desk and set the well to rights, dipping the pen inside just enough and tapping it lightly on the edge.

Welcome to the County Palatine, my friend. Word reaches me that you are on holiday in our lovely town of Beeston. Please accept my invitation to come and enjoy the hospitality at Beaumaris during your stay. I would dearly love to have you vacation with us.

The morning had dawned crisp and cool. Cordelia had risen early out of restlessness though. Fiona was in the care of Kenna, and Viceroy had fallen ill, causing him to take up residence with the monks. She makes her way over to the dressing table, the waddle of late pregnency just starting to develop. She takes a seat and begins to comb out the snarls had had worked their way into her red tresses overnight. The repeated motion of the act had soon soothed her a bit. When she could find nothing left to catch her comb, she twists the mass of curls into a pile on the back of her head, pinning it in place. She had no sooner finished this when Nurse knocked and entered, bearing a tray of food and some letters. While she eats, she scans the senders, one catches her eye. Laying down the spoon she unrolls the letter and reads. A smile appears.

"Nurse, could ye pass me the parchment and quill? And choose one of the traveling gowns. We are going visiting."

Nurse brings over the writing materials, giving a pointed look to the half finished meal, before going to the trunk and laying out a dark blue traveling garment on the bed before slipping out of the room to let Alfred know to make ready the carriage.

Cordelia catches the look and dutily spoons a few more bites into her mouth before writing out a reply.

My friend, the word that has reached you is true. Our travels have brought us to lovely Cheshire before my husband took ill. Howeer, the monks have assure me that his recovery should be swift. It was barely light out when the Princess had heard that Lady Cordelia had arrived in Holywell. She had sent a small retinue from the barracks at Beaumaris via ship to escort and retrieve the lady safely. News of the robbery and beating of the Great Chamberlain had flown to the Princess' ears and she had asked for available forces to dispatch the ruffians immediately. So it had been done in record time. So England would deal with repeat criminals as long as she was Regent. But there was still the matter of the pregnant lady who had been their victim.

Rhys had accompanied the guards to the docks and was the first to disembark, telling the soldiers to wait until he had located Lady Cordelia and brought her to the harbor. The messenger tossed his red and blue cloak over his shoulder, the arms of the House of de Holland displayed on the front in crisply embroidered detail, and set off towards a particular tavern that he knew so well, built by the Princess' husband in days so long ago that they were beginning to fade into legend.

Past the fishmongers, past the vegetable stalls, on up through the market he trudged, and finally arrived at The Hawthorne and the Ghost, in search of the Lady Cordelia.

Cordelia was in her room at the Inn when Alfred knocked lightly on her door and stuck his head in.

"Excuse me, mi'lady. One of the Princess's men is here to see you."

She smiles and nods at him, "I'll be down in a moment, Alfred." She finishes reading the last letter and places it in the basket for letters that require a response. She rises to her feet slowly, at six months pregnant, speed was not much of an option. She places a hand on her belly to reassure herself about the babe, she had still not found a midwife to look her over after her beating. She grabs her shawl and tosses it around he shoulders, stopping to glance in the mirror. the bruises had faded, but she still limped for some reason.

Going down into the common room, she sees the man garbed in the color's of the Princess's house. "Greetings."

The Inn was crowded, more so now than Rhys had seen it in many days, and he knew that his lady would be well pleased. The crowd jostled against the bar maid who took pints of ale round to the patrons at speed, the pint glasses mixed with bowls of piping hot stew, thick with vegetables and topped with chunks of hard brown bread. There were many accents among the buzzing voices of the patrons, English lords, Welsh sailors, travelers from abroad. But the fiery red hair seemed to stand out even in this crowd. He approached the lovely lady with a gentleman's air.

"Lady Cordelia, I presume?" Rhys inquired, bowing low at the waist in a courtly bow that would have put the highest born courtier to shame.

"Princess Jennet has sent me to escort you to the docks at your leisure. A retinue of guards has been dispatched to attend to your safety, and Her Royal Highness' personal physician has been alerted and should be in readiness when we arrive at the castle. I shall wait upon your word. Have you baggage that needs attending, my lady?"

She nods her head to him, "Aye, that be me." She listens to him carefully, then nods. "Aye, I have a few things."

She glances around and catches her maid's eye. With a nod, she signals her to go up and make sure the trunks were packed. Lori bobs a quick curtsey and hurries off, grabbing Nurse on the way.

"That sounds like quite a plan, Sir. The maids are making sure everything gets rounded up. That should nae take very long. May I offer ye a drink while we wait for them?"

“Oh, no thank you, my Lady. Not while on duty,” Rhys said, thinking that his answer would be far different once he made it back to the castle and his official work was done.

He was waiting patiently with Lady Cordelia for the maids to return when one of the royal pages ran in looking exasperated and rushed up to whisper in his ear. They conferred for a moment, looking somewhat intense, before the page pulled a letter from his jacket and handed it to Rhys. The messenger read it over once and nodded, wondering how his lady knew things while sitting snug and warm on Anglesey Isle that he himself did not know standing in Holywell. Be that as it may, the lady had spoken, and so it would be.

“Find him,” Rhys instructed the boy, “and ask his Lordship to come here to meet Lady Cordelia's traveling party if he accepts the invitation. We leave for the harbor as soon as her traveling party is ready.”

“Where should I even begin to look?” the poor worried page asked.

“He's a soldier just come back from the front, lad. Head for the first ale stall you see at the edge of town and work your way up from there.”

The page nodded, bowing hastily to Lady Cordelia with an apologetic look on his face, and bolted for the door in search of the deputy Earl Marshal, who had apparently ridden into town the night before.

Barnaby awoke early in the morning, as he'd become accustomed to, despite arriving late in the evening yesterday. He lay in the comfortable bed, looking over to the empty space next to it and sighing. She should have been with him, so that they could go home together and start a new chapter in both their lives. But the Abbot had told him she was not in any condition to travel, and so he'd left her in Preston to recover while he brought someone who wished to move to Chard to Holywell so that they might find passage on a ship.

He sat on the edge of the bed a few moments before yelling at himself to move it. What will be, will be he thought to himself as he stood and went over to the washbasin to splash water on his face. Once he was dressed, he headed downstairs to the common room and sat down to eat some breakfast. He stopped the serving girl after she set his food down to ask some questions.

"Excuse me, lass. Be there any ships in port that I might be able to book passage on?"

The serving girl paused to think for a moment before replying "Yes, milord, there is a ship docked right now. Royal Fortune, if I remember right. If'n ya check with the Harbormaster, he can probably tell ya where its heading." She turned to nod in acknowledgement of another patron before adding "Sometimes, tis at Anglesey, rather than Holywell proper, but the Princess' own ship, Persephone, might also be willing to take ya somewheres."

Nodding his thanks, he realized he'd forgotten, his mind having been preoccupied lately, that the Regent made her home here. Barnaby ate and decided that after heading to the docks, he would send a note letting her know he was here, so that he might pay his respects properly.

His meal was nearly done, when he saw a young man, most likely a page, who was clearly looking for someone enter and approach the barkeep. The barkeep gestured his way and the page looked right at him before nodding and walking towards him. Barnaby wondered who it might be that was looking for him and studied the man as he approached, thinking he really should pay more attention to who was using what livery.

"Lord Mansfield" the page bowed "I come bearing an invitation from Her Royal Highness, Princess Jennet Elizabeth de Peverel-Holland, to Beaumaris Castle on the isle of Anglesey."

A small, amused smile crept over his face even as he wondered how she'd known he was here already. He took the invitation and read it over before replying "I need a few minutes to gather my things. I trust there is room for my horse as well?" When the page nodded, he went upstairs, quickly repacking his things and returning to the common room. Once he checked out, he gestured to the page to lead the way and followed behind him, heading towards the docks.

Lori and Nurse come down the stairs, accompanied by some lads carrying a pair of trunks. Cordelia looks at the man, "We are ready now, sir."

The page hurried towards the Inn where Lady Cordelia had been staying, but a cursory glance towards the sun told him that it was very likely too late to catch the lady and Rhys there. So, as Lord Mansfield followed, the page led him straight to Holywell Harbor and the bustling docks.

Persephone rose like the dark lady after whom she was named, tall and regally appointed. Her white sails had been secured, but at the top of the mast fluttered a small flag, bearing the royal seal of England. On the rails, banners alternated, some red and silver with silvery hawthorn branches embroidered in the midst, the personal arms of the lady who owned the ship, and some bearing golden lions on a red field,another symbol of England, surrounded by the blue border of France, the arms of the de Holland line, depicting their royal origins reaching back across the ages. The walkway bridged the gap from the ship to the docks, covered overall with a red and silver tapestry rug.

The captain, a rather rough looking gentleman wearing a black tunic with a white rose embroidered on the chest, waved the page towards him, even as he shouted at the deckhands to make their preparations. The page proceeded forward, announcing the gentleman who followed to the captain properly.

“Captain, may I present to you, Barnaby, Lord Mansfield, deputy Earl Marshal of England. Her Royal Highness has invited him also to Beaumaris to stay and tour the castle.”

The Captain nodded, bobbing a small bow which looked rather uncomfortable for him, and invited the Viscount aboard ship.

“Make yourself at home, my Lord,” the Captain said, “and let me know if you will be needing anything for the short journey across.” He waited a moment for the Viscount's response and then turned to the page. “As soon as you see Rhys and the lady, give a shout, lad. The tides are shifting and we will have to weigh anchor within the hour.”

The page nodded and walked back towards the dock offices of the harbor, his eyes trained on the road that led from the inns and taverns to the shipyards for any sign of the Welsh messenger and the lady.

Meanwhile...across town at the Inn...

"Most excellent, my Lady. We have horses, but the Inn has a carriage we can hire, if it would be easier in your condition," Rhys offered helpfully, fully aware of Cordelia's advancing pregnancy and the ordeal she had been through already with the robbery on the way from Beeston.

She nods her head, "Whatever will get us to the ship the quickest and easiest. Likely the carriage as I believe I have passed the point where riding is advisible."

Seeing the Captain turn to finish preparations, he took his belongings to a free cabin and set them down. Not really sure what to do with himself, he decided to return to the deck of the ship and approached the Captain again. When an opportune moment presented itself, he spoke "Captain, is there anything I can help with?"

At the Inn...

Rhys quickly hired the carriage at Cordelia's request and ushered the attending servants towards the front of the Inn, organizing the stowing of her various luggage with the efficieny one would expect in a servant of a royal house. It took only minutes to have everything properly arranged, and Rhys re-entered the Inn to offer his arm to the lady should she so desire.

“My lady, the carriage awaits. If you are ready to go, then we will make for the docks and be there, hopefully, before the captain has my head.” Rhys was smiling at the last, a friendly rivalry between the messenger and the salty sea captain having sprung up in recent weeks, as the two of them decided which was higher in the Princess' graces.

Onboard Persephone...

The Captain flashed the Viscount a look of relief, his grizzled features lightening slightly as the young man introduced himself. He took in the gentleman's aspect a moment and nodded once, deciding that he liked the soldier immensely.

“Mmhm...Barnaby it is then,” he agreed.

When the Captain returned to the decks of Persephone, he saw the Viscount approach him once more and heard him inquire if there was anything he could assist with. The Captain looked him up and down as if making a decision.

“We could use another set of hands with the sails,” the Captain said hesitantly, wondering if he had overstepped his bounds,“One of the deckhands took ill and he's over at the harbormaster's office now wretching with some bloody manner of flux. Have you any experience on a ship, lad?”

Cordelia chuckles and takes his arm, "Well, then, by all means, let us be off! We can nae have ye loose such a fine head over me own tardiness. Lead on, good sir."

Rhys smiled companionably at the lady, deciding that he knew precisely what Prince Viceroy saw in such a woman, but being entirely too well mannered to say such a thing. He escorted her to the carriage and helped her inside, urging her to take the seat opposite him, which had been piled high with cushions for her comfort. The messenger neglected to mention the raving of the innkeeper's wife who now was almost entirely without pillows in several of the nicer guest suites, but had been well compensated in return with a small pouch of the Princess' coin.

He closed the door to the carriage and tapped the top with his hand, the carriage lurching forward with a sudden jolt. Thereafter, the ride was smoother, moving along down the road from Holywell town to the docks, past the inns, the market, and several more questionable businesses with which Rhys was also acquainted. Well, his lady might be a princess, but she was no fool, and some habits died hard...or not at all.

The dock was a frantic scene as sailors boarded ships, trunks and crates being loaded aboard the merchant vessels, soldiers scrambling to board the warships, and Persephone alone sitting silent and regal.

Rhys spotted the page almost instantly and waved to him as he opened the door of the carriage and drew down the small steps for the lady's convenience. He invited the lady to descend and offered her a hand in order to disembark the carriage in the greatest safety. The last thing Rhys wished to hear upon his return was that stern voice, the last thing to see that single raised eyebrow, as the Princess inquired as to why he had unceremoniously dumped the Great Chamberlain in some mud puddle. With a shudder at the horror of the thought, he waited, palmed outstretched to Cordelia.

It was a comfortable ride to the docks, the pillows being much more than she usually provided her herself. They rose in companiable silence through the town to the docks. The carriage pulls to a stop and Rhys exits first and draws down the step, then extends his hand. She takes it and descends carefully, one eye on the puddle beneath the carriage and the other on her feet, she was not always a very graceful woman. Finally, feet planted firmly on the ground, she closes her eyes and inhales, the docks and sea had always been a source of comfort to her. She opens her eyes and looks around, finally alighting upon the ship bearing the correct colors. She nods at Rhys to lead the way.

Rhys escorted Lady Cordelia to Persephone with the utmost care, ushering her to the walkway and introducing her to the Captain who was in talks with Barnaby, the sea birds from the harbor circling lazily overhead.

“Most esteemed Captain,” Rhys said, with a flourishing bow and a smirk on his face that left the Captain looking like he would just as soon grab the messenger at any moment and toss him over the side as look at him, “this is Lady Cordelia, Viscountess Arundel, the wife of Prince Viceroy…” Rhys put emphasis on the name and title of the Prince.

“Welcome aboard, my lady,” the Captain said and bowed in a stilted fashion, from the waist, as if his spine had a rod stuck in it at an uncomfortable angle. “The page will take your luggage to your rooms for the short voyage across, if you like, and see to your every need.” The Captain waited a moment as the page, who had trailed silently up the walkway behind the group, presented himself to Cordelia and bowed gracefully, putting himself at her disposal.

Not used to the courtly ideals of pleasant conversation, the Captain turned abruptly back to Barnaby with a smile, the arrival of Cordelia’s party having interrupted their conversation.

“Ah, a lord who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty…well, that’s a thing we don’t see too much of these days,” he grinned as he spoke, “if you’ll forgive my saying so…” he added hastily, the tone of his voice indicating that he desired nothing of the sort, only to keep his job should he have offered offense. “Well, lad, Horace there will show you what to do. We need to trim those lines and get underway. The Princess gets cross with me when I dawdle.” The Captain almost winked at Barnaby, a bit of a twinkle in his eye, assuming that the gentleman might well know what he meant.

She boards the ship, looking around appreciatively. She smiles at the Captian, nodding her head at him. Smiling a bit, she speaks to him in her melodious voice, still colored with her Irish accent, "'Tis a beautiful ship, Captian. Ye must be proud of her. Much finer than the one I worked on when I left Erie." She pauses as she catches his look of disbelif. "Aye, I was nae always a Lady. I was a shepardess in a costal town. Did nae have the funds to buy passage, so I worked as a deckhand. But, ye are nae here to listen to me life story. But, if it be allright with ye, I wish to stay above deck. I shan't be in the way." She smiles winningly at him, then spies the Lord behind him. "Ah! Lord Barnaby! 'Tis a joy to see ye here." She grins at him.

The Princess gets cross with me when I dawdle.” The Captain almost winked at Barnaby, a bit of a twinkle in his eye, assuming that the gentleman might well know what he meant.

Barnaby laughed, replying warmly "Yes, she can be quite ... insistent ... at times." Nodding to the Captain he turned to find Horace, when a voice he wasn't expecting to see here stopped him.

"Lady Cordelia" he smiled "what an unexpected surprise!" Barnaby was about to continue when he noted her things being brought aboard. Remembering he was needed elsewhere he bowed slightly and smiled apologetically "My apologies, milady, but I have been asked to assist Horace over there," he gestured with a hand "I look forward to catching up with you once we're underway."

Barnaby

Barnaby made his way over to Horace, having excused himself from further conversation, in order to assist him with whatever the ship needed. The Captain had mentioned something about trimming the lines, but he may as well have been speaking French to Barnaby, who realized as he was walking over that this was one area he truly knew nothing about. Clearing his throat, Barnaby introduced himself "Master Horace, the Captain said you needed an extra pair of hands. Barnaby of Chard at your disposal."

Horace was a grizzled old man, and a veteran of many voyages at sea and he appraised Barnaby quickly, spitting out "Yer a landlubber, ain't ya? Don't know why the Captain would send me a blasted landlubber" he muttered, the last bit more quietly. Grudgingly he continued "Alright, lad, we need to trim the sails a bit so we ken get underway" Seeing the confusion in Barnaby's eyes, Horace sighed and shook his head.

"Watch me now, lad, let out the line till the sail starts flapping in the breeze like this" Horace watched the sail as the rope slid through his rough hands, gripping the rope to stop it once the sail was flapping "Then, you bring it back it till it stops" he continued talking as he pulled the line back in "Once it looks like that, tie it off like this"

Barnaby nodded and went to work, while Horace watched. Once all the lines were trimmed and secured, Horace turned towards the Captain and barked "Sails trim, Captain!"

The crossing on board Persephone had been uneventful, and Lord Barnaby and Lady Cordelia had arrived at the dock of Beaumaris Castle with all due pomp, greeted at the castle itself by the Princess. As ever, the hospitality of Anglesey was rolled out for the two nobles and they and their hostess had shared a relaxing visit, albeit far too short. It was not long at all that the three were forced to part ways on the path to some new adventure, the tales of which were related in another place and time.

Life at Beaumaris Castle settled quickly back into the everyday humdrum of such large estates, and the inhabitants waited patiently until Princess Jennet returned from her travels in the south.

Sometime in December...

It had been a very long time since Jennet had approached her home on land from the south, but the effect was just as strong today as it was the first time she had laid eyes on Chester County. There was a subtle shift in the greenery of the landscape, a mere whiff of sea salt and foam on the wind. Many who passed this way never sensed the majesty that now enveloped the Princess as she halted her horse on the road and came to rest in utter stillness, the veil of Chester almost tangible, just ahead. “Home…” she smiled under her breath and glanced towards Amelia, who had likewise pulled alongside and sat staring ahead at something which any other lady would say was invisible.

“Amelia, I’ve a task for you,” Jennet drew herself away from the sight of the border long enough to say.

“My lady,” and a nod of acquiescence with hands folded gently across her reins was the lady in waiting’s only reply.

“Since we arrive so close to the holy season, I have decided to open Beaumaris Castle to our family and friends for a grand celebration. There will be feasting and presents for Christosmas, more feasting and revelry at the New Year, and we shall top it all off with a celebration of Twelfth Night.”

“But, my lady,” Amelia protested, “the preparations for such a large scale event would surely take weeks if not months. It is several days’ ride still to the far edge of Chester and then to the Isle. By the time we get there, the invitations would not have sufficient time to reach all of those you would surely invite.”

The Princess smiled and drew a handwritten list from the small pocket sewn into her thick woolen riding cloak, red fox fur blowing in the slight winter’s breeze.

“Already done,” she grinned and handed Amelia the folded list of names of those who had already been invited some time ago by private courier at their last stop near an inn.

“But you’ve already…You mean to say that you’ve…?” Amelia looked from the lengthy list of names to the face of her mistress and back to the list in bewilderment then sighed in resignation. “Cook will be threatening murder if we wait until we arrive to tell her that she has to feed…” Amelia gulped at the numbers, “a crowd this large…and for the entire season?”

“Then,” Jennet smiled and tugged at her riding gloves, seemingly checking their fit, “I should think you’d best hurry.”

Amelia’s jaw trembled, clearly struggling not to fall clean off her face and land in the dust of the road. “Very well,” she agreed at last, pulling the hood of her cloak up over her head and allowing her horse to prance slightly in front of that of the Princess. She wheeled the horse temporarily to face her mistress. “But if Cook murders me instead, I shall expect a state funeral or I will come back to haunt you.”

Never completely certain if Amelia was serious about such matters, Jennet nodded but smiled and watched the back of the lady in waiting retreating in the distance towards Chester and towards Beaumaris Castle where the festivities would be well in hand by the time that the Princess and her traveling party arrived.

Barnaby

Barnaby arrived in Holywell with the small group of soldiers he'd taken to Cumberland. Road weary, he hoped that his plans to remain here and contribute to the completion of the port expansion wouldn't need to be changed. Having recently put forward the need to establish naval parity at a minimum with the NNGO and other elements at sea, he felt that he needed to back up his suggestions with actions. Jennet living nearby was an added bonus he chuckled to himself, recalling the comment a friend made in a missive he'd received in Chester.

Having secured rooms for himself and those traveling with him the night before, Barnaby spent his first day in town working at the docks. The recent attack by the NNGO and Connacht had fortunately not damaged the harbor, but some of his work was spent getting wreckage out of the water as bits of flotsam made their way into the work area. He kept a sharp eye out as he worked, and noted that the Persephone was not in port. When the Harbormaster signaled the end of the day, he stood, chilled and wet, trudging his way on shore and collected his pay along with the others before finding a clerk.

"Excuse me," Barnaby began "might you know when the Persephone is scheduled to arrive?"

"Who's asking?" the clerk replied in irritation, looking disdainfully at the bedraggled man before him.

Rage flashed across Barnaby's eyes for the briefest of moments at the clerk's judgement of him, having come to work on his port, before he answered in a clipped tone "Lord Barnaby Braeden, Earl Marshal of England, Earl of Pembroke and Viscount of Mansfield." His hand slipped inside his shirt to pull out the chain carrying his symbol of office.

The clerk's eyes widened a bit as he saw the seal of office and he stammered "F-forgive me, milord. I did not know. Let's see, Persephone ... Persephone" he began to flip through the records "Nay milord, no word of her arrival, either recently or of plans in the near future."

Barnaby's mind ran through the possibilities quickly, and a hint of worry tinged his voice "I'm staying at The Hawthorne. If you hear of any news of the Princess or her ship, or of anyone asking about her, come find me? Understand?" He saw the clerk nod and turned to head back to the Inn to eat and draft some missives, hoping that Jennet had received word of the attack and been able to find safe harbor.

So young man, excited? she asked the child, I hope you are up to the responsibility of being my escort, watching as he excitedly nodded his head, for this was the first time he had been allowed to an adult party.

The holidays were set to be a busy time, and with the invitation that had arrived at Revan's new home in Bridgewater, Somerset, it became clear that leaving early for the visit to Lady Jennet would be the only way to go. So Revan packed up what she had just unpacked in her house, including her daughter Lillian's birthday present as well as her Christosmas present, and the journey began.

Her items were in two trunks, and were currently being unloaded from the ship and loaded back into a carriage, set to take them to their destination. Lillian was happier than a clam, babbling and giggling to her Mr Bunny as Revan held her against her hip. She turned to Arch and smiled. "Well, that wasn't as bad as I thought it might be ... although Lilly's game of dumping out her toys on the floor wore down on me." Her eyes looked up at him, glimmering as the snow softly fell. "What did you think of it? And who do you think is coming to the castle?"

Alixandra didn't want to arrive to the party to early. She wanted to make a grand entrance with a pretty gown and make everyone wonder who she was.

She sighed at her own daydream as she walked up the path. She tried looking for a ride, but in her plain robe and layers of clothing to protect her against the cold there weren't many who were willing.

Still she made it this far. She could see the castle not to far away and as she kept walking she let herself day dream about castles and servants and coaches and not walking anywhere ever again.

She kept hold of the small package she had wrapped in plain brown paper, but it had a nice twine bow on it. One never went to a persons place without a gift for the hostess.

Alisa

Alisa fidgeted in her seat in the hired carriage. She smiled as her husband Egbert took her hand in his and squeezed it. The coachman had said the castle was just around the next bend in the road. She kept looking out the window hoping to get her first glimpse.

Then suddenly there it was. It was just what she had expected, grand and stately. Alisa looked down at her best dress and hoped she wouldn't look totally out of place with the Princess's other guests. She had never officially met the former Regent, but had seen her at offiical events and knew how beautifully attired she always was.

She looked over at her husband and asked for at least the dozenth time, "Do you think we will know any other guests? I mean I know Barnaby will probably be there, but anyone else? And I hope my dress is suitable. Do you think we will fit in?"

Robin glanced over to his son, even as he held his wife against him, one hand in hers, the other resting atop her stomach where their next child grew. Adam was watching avidly out the window at the countryside as they passed. Glancing out himself to see where they were, the archer said with a quirk of his lips, "You should be able to see the castle soon, Adam." Looking back at his wife, he smiled at her as they crested the hill and Adam's eyes grew wide, and exclaimed about how grand the castle looked.

Llyres, he knew, would be eager to see Barnaby again, meet the Princess, and visit with other friends that may have been invited. Adam was hoping that there would be some boys his own age there to talk to, though he had also asked many questions about the castle, and Robin knew he might have to keep an eye on the lad so he didn't run off to explore. Robin himself had somewhat mixed feelings about arriving. He would enjoy seeing Barnaby again, and anyone else he knew, meeting the princess, and he would enjoy finally getting out of the carriage they were traveling in -- not that he would even consider the idea of asking his wife to ride on a horse from Bridgewater to the Castle at four month pregnant. However, he was not looking forward to changing out of his travel clothes for something a little more... refined. He much preferred his worn clothes and the old cloak of his father's that Llyres had repaired and relined for him. His own past and the adventures he had undertaken with his family made him uncomfortable dressing up, and distrustful of castles as a whole, though he would be there and polite and try to have fun, because his family would be there.

Shifting uncomfortably, Robin frowned slightly at the part of the castle he could see from his position in the carriage, absently lifting one hand to trace along the necklace he had gotten Llyres for their first anniversary. "We'll be there soon, love. Are you sure you're warm enough in that cloak?" He asked, almost redundantly. He knew the cloak was warm -- it was fur lined and he had picked it himself for Llyres to travel in, especially in winter, but her pregnancy had made him far more protective.

Just after Barnaby's arrival at the Hawthorne Inn...

Amelia had ridden hard for two solid nights being careful of the roads as she had been sent ahead alone to ready Beaumaris Castle for the grand Christosmas celebrations. The list she held folded tightly against her breast contained not only the enormous guest list but also a listing of instructions for Cook and the kitchen staff as well as for the steward, Giovanni, and for the groundskeepers. There was also a small note to Mistress Mairwen in Beaumaris town, the contents of which Amelia was not privy to, for her lady had sealed it well, and the lady in waiting wondered many times along her swiftly passing route exactly what business the Princess had with the town woman for the holidays.

Amelia arrived at the port of Holywell in record time, looking bedraggled and road weary, covered over in a very slight misting of dust. Not daunted by either the tiredness in her bones or the less than pristine condition of her appearance, she went straightaway for the docks to hire a ship to cross the Menai Straits and reach the castle at last. A slightly prim looking clerk was the first official that met her gaze.

“You, man!” she called out to the clerk, who looked up at the lady in waiting startled. “I’ve need of a ship for passage to Anglesey Isle on the Princess’ business.”

“The Princess…?” the clerk queried with a single upraised brow.

“Yes, Princess Jennet, the Countess of said isle of Anglesey, the Marchioness of the ground that rests beneath your feet, Admiral of the Fleet…” Amelia glared at the man as if he’d gone witless. “Surely you know the one.”

The harbor clerk pursed his lips in consternation, his tongue positively threatening to leap out of his mouth and lash the lady in waiting, but he managed to refrain. “Yes, yes, I know the Princess. What I meant was you are not the first to mention her name in my presence today.”

Worry creased the lines of Amelia’s face for a moment, afraid that one of the NNGO’s minions had been seeking after her mistress’ location. “Did this person happen to leave a name?”

“Of course he did,” the clerk said haughtily, his face portraying the belief that all people would leave their names with such an honored clerk as he. “It was the Earl Marshal himself. Lord Pembroke. He instructed me, should I hear anything about the Princess or about the Persephone…or if anyone else should ask…” he looked Amelia up and down judgmentally, “then I should come and find him on the very moment at the Princess’ Inn.”

The list containing the guests’ names slipped easily from where she had stashed it away while riding and Amelia unfolded it and scanned quickly. There Lord Pembroke’s name was clearly written. “Oh, for heaven’s sake…” she grumbled, figuring that if the invitation would catch up to the traveling Earl Marshal at all, it would likely be quite late. Someone would need to ride to the Hawthorne Inn and formally invite the Earl, but Amelia herself could not spare the time, knowing that some of the most important guests in the kingdom would soon be surprising the slumbering castle inhabitants.

“Has Rhys been about of late?” Amelia quizzed the clerk.

“That good for nothing rapscallion, you mean?” the clerk responded before he bit the mischievous tongue and placed it carefully back into his mouth.

“Her Royal Highness’ messenger,” Amelia amended.

“Yes, the very one,” the clerk nodded. “He was in just this morning. Said he was going to the town market to place some orders and that he would return this afternoon.”

“Excellent,” Amelia smiled smugly. “Then I have a task for you Master Clerk.” She tore a page out of the indignant clerk’s harbor book and dipped his own quill in the pot of ink at the edge of the desk, writing a note to Rhys with instructions to seek out the Earl of Pembroke and to invite him to Beaumaris for the holidays, as well as to procure a few things that she was certain Cook would need.

“Have your fastest runner go to the market with all haste and deliver this message into no hand except that of Rhys.” Amelia tossed a few pieces of gold down on the clerk’s desk to drive the point home.

“Y…yes, my lady,” the clerk stammered, scooping up the gold and the note, holding the parchment carefully as if it would shatter should it be dropped.

“Now…about that boat…”

Egbert tried to reassure his wife. Im sure there will be some familiar faces here aswell as some opportunities to make new friends. Your dress is beautiful. I assure you, my dear, that you will outshine all the other ladies at the party. We got invited to this party, so we belong here as well as anyone else. We were in another castle for a party before, for the award ceremony, remember? So we are getting some routine at these finer parties.

The carriage rolled into the courtyard of the grand castle and Egbert helped his wife down the carriage. he held her arm in his and looked up the majesty of the castle. In front of them were a broad stone steps leading up to the castles grand entrance. The large doors were opened and guests had begun to arrive.

Malan stared out the window of her carriage as it made its way toward the castle. She sat stiffly upright in her clean starched clothes. The invitation she had recieved was neatly folded next to her. She'd almost decided against coming. She never felt very comfortable at fancy parties and festivities. But then, this was a chance to see her family again. And it had been far too long since she'd spent Christmas with family.

Cordelia

Cordelia raised a brow at the letter that had arrived. Chuckling slightly to herself, she goes down the hall to the nursery where Viceroy was putting Michael to bed. Leaning against the doorframe, she smiles as she watches her husband with thier son. After her blows out the candle, he turns and notices her at the door. Pausing to kiss her, he asks, "What's up? You have that look..."

Cor chuckles and passes over the parchment. "It seems we've been invited to a party on my own land. I think we need to make an appearance."

Viceroy reads the invitation and laughs. "Yes, it seems so." Wrapping his arm around her, they go down to the kitchen where the servants were gathered. "Prepare for a trip to Anglesey, we leave in the morning."

The servants look at each other, used to the decisions to travel at the last minute, espically from the Viscountess. As the Lord and Lady leave the room, they spring into action, provisions being set out while the maids hurry to pack the trunks.

*Several days later*

The family arrives in Holywell, while Viceroy and the rest of the retinue warm in the Inn, Cordelia goes to the harbor office to see about passage to the Isle of Anglesey. Going to the clerk she says, "I, along with my husband and our retinue, require passage to the Isle."

The clerk eyes her, wary after his encounter with the Earl Marshall, "Angelsey seems to be a popular place these past few days."

"Of course it is. Though I suggest that you do not question my motives for going, and learn my face. As Viscountess Beaumaris, I intend to be a fixture around here."

Alixandra was forced off the road time and time again as coaches and carriages passed her by. A few with horses passed her as well. She was glad it wasn't muddy otherwise she worried she'd get splashed.

Finally it looked like the road was clear again so she went back to walking. 'I guess I didn't have to worry about being to early' she thought. Maybe the Princess will let her stay the night before walking back. She once again fell into daydreams but these were of curling up in a feather bed for the night with her belly full.

Less then a year before, she had been a stranger to hunger. To cold, to plainness of all sorts. She hadn't been a noble lady, but her family was a very wealthy merchant family. She had been spoiled rotten. And only now, after leaving her home to be on her own, has she realized how much narrower her life was. Everything she could ever want, but nothing in her to appreciate a bit of what she had.

'Oy that's changed' she pondered. 'A warm fresh biscuit after a long day tastes better then any feast I ever attended then.' She unknowingly licked her lips. 'Imagine how holiday fare will taste now!' As this dawned on her she hitched up her robe just a bit more and lengthened her stride. She may not be early, but Jah bless her she wouldn't be late!

Malan

Malan poked her head out of the window. 'Well, knock me over with a feather, if it isn't my new nephew Sergi!' Though she was really delighted to see him she made her face look a little stern. 'I hope you're not planning on bringing any of that snow and wet into the castle. That wouldn't do at all. You don't seem to be any the worse for riding out in this cold, though I can't say the same for that young lady over there.'

There was a young woman walking just ahead of them. She had hitched her robe up and was walking fast but was evidently cold.

When the carriage came close to her Malan signaled the driver to stop and open the carriage door. She called out to the girl, 'Well, young lady, are you going to get in or stay out there and catch your death of cold?'

Llyres

Resting warm and drowsy against Robin in the carriage that carried the Ballard family this final distance to the castle, Llyres opened her blue eyes in response to Adam's excited voice. Their journey from southern England had been long, though with enough interest to keep their adopted son’s restlessness in check. He’d particularly enjoyed the boat ride across the straits, insisting on helping coil the wet mooring ropes on the cold deck. Though he’d never been to sea, the lad was familiar with all manner of ships, having frequently accompanied his mother to the port office.

Glad that Adam was enjoying himself, Llyres felt Robin’s shoulders stiffen at mention of the castle. Her hand squeezed his knee reassuringly. For the two of them, castles and grand estates went hand in glove with misadventure. It was hard to dismiss a certain uneasiness at the looming stone walls of the seaside fortress. But for Llyres, her own inheritance of Somerton Court in the small town of Somerton had calmed her unease. Not every castle and mansion held unpleasant secrets. Actually, she was eager to tell the Princess about her family’s project at Somerton, how they were using the estate to shelter those in need.

Stretching to see what her men watched from the carriage window, the blonde smiled at the lit windows, welcoming all. We’re almost past the gates, she announced settling back in the crook of Robin’s arm. And Adam, when we arrive, best manners, a light meal and bed for you! We do not want to impose on the household, she winked at her son. Their foundling had an appetite that matched his growing height.

The carriage rolled through the courtyard, joining other arrivals, to halt in front of a brightly lit grand entrance. A doorman pulled open the carriage door, offering her a hand down. Waiting for Robin and Adam, Llyres wrapped her cloak tightly around her travel leathers. First order of business was to change into appropriate garb.

She sits in the seat, wrapping her arms around herself. " 'preciate you stopping for me like that. Almost there, but it feels like it's gettin' to a whole new level of cold." She smooths out her robe's skirt, looking at the woman, probably comparing their clothing.

She smiles out the window at Sergi. "I'm afraid if you two hadn't stopped you would have run me off again. The side of the road is getting muddy I'm sad to say."

Sergi smiles as he accepts the lady's thankfulness."It was no trouble at all Mi' Lady.We all are humbled in jah's grace." Sergi smiles as he mounts his horse again and closely follows the carriage as the snow drops faster.

At the Hawthorne Inn in Holywell...

“Ah, Eleri, I faint, I die…your spurns are like the prick of a needle to my heart swollen and sick with affection…” Rhys tossed his sun kissed brown hair over his shoulder and grabbed at his chest dramatically, affecting a very manly swoon before the tavern maid who, in turn, rolled her eyes and swatted him away.

“Well, then, if I keep at it perhaps I’ll deflate your ego in the process,” she wiped her hands on a well used towel used for wiping down the tables at the Hawthorne Inn and turned back to filling a tray crammed full of ale tankards with a thick yeasty smelling brew that sloshed as she poured.

Rhys persisted in his protest, “Forget that rusty old sea barnacle. You need a strapping young man to compose love sonnets in your honor and…”

“Save it for the court ladies, Rhys. Your silver tongue will avail you nothing here in Holywell.”

Suddenly, the door to the inn swung open and a very young lad garbed in a seaman’s cast off clothing stood backlit in the doorway panting. “Mistress…Eleri…?” the lad looked around uncertainly, clutching a letter in his frail hands as his eyes adjusted to the dimmer light of the inn’s tavern.

Eleri set the tray down in the midst of a group of thirsty looking sailors, who eyed the lad only briefly before returning to the far more interesting matter of ale. “What is it, boy?” Eleri bent down to place a gentle hand on the boy’s shoulder in reassurance.

“Rh…Rhys…a letter for Rhys.” The boy held onto the letter as if it were a thing of inestimable worth, his teeth suddenly chattering from the chill that flowed in from the sea on the December air.

“Come in here, lad, come in and warm yourself by the fire. Rhys is here,” she shooed the boy in and closed the tavern door, waving a hand for Rhys to come attend to the letter, which he did, the messenger’s entire demeanor suddenly changing as he attended to business.

Eleri wrapped the harbor clerk’s lad in one of her shawls and fixed him a bowl of stew while Rhys flicked the letter open and read it once over, then again, his eyes going wide. “The Earl of Pembroke is staying here, isn’t he Eleri?” Rhys asked with eyes still fixed on the words written on the page.

She nodded and tipped her chin up to take in the expression of the royal messenger from where she knelt next to the boy, tucking the woven shawl over his bare arms as he ate greedily. “He should be upstairs at this hour. Came back some time ago from the docks, if I’m not mistaken. Room furthest down the hall on the right.”

Rhys nodded and turned as if to go, quickly turning back in afterthought. “Um, how are your stocks, my lovely Eleri?” he flashed her his most suave smile which made the tavern maid’s eyes fill with suspicion.

“Amelia says that the Princess will be needing several things and rather in a hurry, if your ladyship would oblige me?” he winked and explained the contents of Amelia’s letter as succinctly as he could while Eleri grasped her chest in shock and took a few moments to catch her breath. At last, she snatched the letter from Rhys’ hand and looked it over with a practiced eye.

“I will see this is taken care of and the goods delivered to the docks. You go up those stairs this very instant and speak with the Earl.”

“Your wish is my command,” Rhys bowed in an exaggerated flourish and bounded up the stairs to knock on the Earl of Pembroke’s door.

Royal Messenger to Princess Jennet

She was nervous, and it showed. She wasn't able to meet up with Cordelia and she wanted desperately to know what she was getting herself into. Certainly there would be those with titles of nobility and she was so unfamiliar with how to behave.

Golden curls bounced as she gently tossed the reigns against her horse. She would be attending, but without her beloved, something she figured would become more commonplace. Shroud would be in her heart, if not there in body. The dress she wore was simple, her finer things being in the chest. Dining dresses, dancing dresses, things she had never thought she would need until she found her heritage. A heritage that was still very much a mystery to her.

Aelan smiled though, despite the unease that swirled in her mind. Perhaps she would see Cordelia, Viceroy and the little ones. Perhaps even Thalia and her twins. The rest........well.........she would simply have to get to know them.

Archduke

This was the first time Arch had ever travelled without his dog Lumiere, and during the boat ride he wondered if he had made the right decision. He had only just moved into his new home in Bridgewater, and decided that Lumiere could keep Jones company. Lumiere didn't look much like a guard dog, but he had a fierce sounding growl on him at times. Hopefully everything would be fine at Blackthorn. He was looking forward to settling in properly once he and Revan and Lillian arrived back in Somerset.

As soon as the ship docked at the Isle of Angelsey, Arch set about finding a carriage for their luggage. His clothes and gifts had fitted all into one trunk, and then there was Revan and Lillian's luggage that needed seeing to too. He'd also bought the liquor cabinet with him, which had made the trip across to the island more pleasurable. His belly was still glowing warmly from the rum, and he was feeling a little more relaxed.

"Yes, Lilly was certainly having fun there with Mr Bunny again... I wonder when she'll grow out of throwing things around." Arch grinned first at Lilly and then turned to smile at Revan. Once again he was struck by the beauty of her green eyes which seemed even more vivid in the snow. He held her gaze for a moment. The trunks were now safely packed and Arch held out his hand to help Revan board the carriage. Once they were all safely inside and the door was closed behind them he reached for the thick blankets provided to cover their laps.

"I'm glad the sea wasn't too choppy, I've heard things can get quite rough up in these parts." Arch hadn't known what to expect, this was his first time traveling across sea. Coming from a fishing town, he was pretty well versed in handling a rowing boat. He had been curious to find out how much different it would be. The ropes and masts were certainly very interesting, and the speed the ship reached was quite impressive. He resolved to read up on ships when he got back home.

As the carriage made its way towards Beaumaris Arch wondered who else would be there, Revan had asked him, and he hadn't a clue.

"Yes, I wonder who else will be coming." Arch reached for Revan's hand and squeezed it. "One thing's for certain, I'm looking forward to spending my Christomas with you and Lilly." Safely hidden from prying eyes in the seclusion offered by the carriage, he leaned closer to give her a gentle kiss on the cheek.

Barnaby stared at the ceiling, watching the firelight flicker off of it as he tried to relax his mind. Physically, the port work was wearing him out, but his duties and his concern for Jennet had his mind working overtime each night. He tried to convince himself she was fine, but it grew harder each day there was no news of her arrival or sighting of her vessel on the horizon.

Near midnight, he felt his body and mind relax as his eyes grew heavy lidded with fatigue when the sound of someone knocking at his door jolted him back to alertness. Surely a visitor this late could only mean bad news he thought to himself before shaking his head. "One second" he grunted at the repeated knock, stopping to splash his face with water from the basin before taking a deep breath and steeling himself for the worst. Gripping the handle tightly, he opened the door quickly, his heart stopping as he saw the young man on the other side "Rhys, what's happened?! Where is Je -" he caught himself and switched to the less familiar title "- the Princess? Is she safe?"

Rhys hesitated for only a moment before knocking on the door, the hour had grown so late, but Amelia's instructions were clear and, by extension, so were the instructions of the Princess. Above all guests, Rhys surmised, as had Amelia, that the Princess would want this particular gentleman invited to the castle for Christosmas and for all of the festivities afterward.

“Your Excellency,” Rhys bowed formally at the opening of the door and recognition that the man within was indeed the Earl of Pembroke. Confusion flickered across Rhys' face at the lord's concern until it dawned on him that, traveling as the Earl had been, the news of the Christosmas invitation was likely not the only thing that had yet to catch up to the gentleman.

“My lady is well, my lord, fear not. Her Royal Highness, hearing word of the attacks upon Holywell port, and after speaking with the Duke and surmising that her own death would not assist Chester in any beneficial way, stowed her ship elsewhere and came overland. But seeing as how she had the Cardinal in her traveling party, she did not well advertise the fact of her travel round the country, you'll understand.” Rhys paused in his explanation of the Princess' methods of traveling unimpeded, remembering that he was in fact speaking to the Earl Marshal who would undoubtedly understand the Princess' thinking on the matter in ensuring the safety of those who traveled quickly with her.

The messenger allowed a moment for the news to sink in before proceeding to his original business. In short order, he explained to the Earl about the holiday festivities and delivered the invitation most cordially, speaking also of the large amount of food and supplies that the lady in waiting had called for and of his intention to gather the supplies and travel with all haste to the castle. His message delivered, Rhys bowed very formally, “If Your Excellency should wish to attend, a ship will be waiting for me on the next tide and I should be honored beyond imagining if you were to accompany me.”

Royal Messenger to Princess Jennet

Malan

Malan sat upright and studied her passenger openly. After a few minutes of silence she introduced herself rather stiffly, trying to remember what the proper etiquette was for these occasions.

Every now and then she glanced out the window to see how Sergi was doing. She rather wished he was in the carriage with them to make the conversation flow more easily.

The carriage rocked from side to side. A rather large pothole gave them a jolt which almost caused her to lose her balance. That made her scowl. This is why I avoid traveling. She thought quietly to herself.

Sergi smiles, and smirks at the sky in disgust,He thinks to himself as the snow and cold start to eat in at him.He signals the carriage that Aunt Malan is in to stop.He dismounts his horse and ties it to the carriage.He limps thru the snow and mud, as it squishes under his boots.He gently opens the door and knocks the mud and snow off his boots the best he can before entering.He smiles as he closes the door, and grins a comical grin."My dear aunt Malan.I am sorry for not getting in sooner, but it was such a nice day outside."Sergi grins wide as the carriage takes off again.

The moon reflected off the water of the harbor at Beaumaris, clearly visible from the battlements high atop Beaumaris Castle as the lady in waiting gazed down at the sparkling jewel of an isle that was the “beautiful marsh” of Anglesey. Riding hard along the roads of Chester and sailing across the Menai Straits, somehow she had made it to the castle in time before the guests had arrived.

As she had predicted, Cook had been furious, but with her usual flare for dealing with the Princess' plans, had managed to assemble the kitchen staff into a work crew that seemed to dart about the gargantuan castle kitchens and grounds with an air of precision that would have made any military general proud to command them. The larder was well stocked for the winter ahead, but the royal huntsmen had been sent abroad across the scattered isles to replenish what the Princess had ordered. In poured the pheasants, the deer, the well butchered carcass of one whole cow, chickens, rabbits, crates of vegetables. Cauldrons boiled and skillets bubbled, scenting the entire castle with the rich roasted smells of dripping meat on spits and the comforting yeasty scent of baking bread. Cook could not imagine what all of the food was for. The Princess had ordered far more than would have been necessary for the people listed on the invitations list, but Cook and her staff worked on valiantly, rolling out dough for meat pies and dicing a dozen different things for the soups.

The sealed note had been given to Mistress Mairwen of Beaumaris town and her look of shock would never quite be forgotten by the lady in waiting who had delivered it to the seamstress and keeper of the largest flock of sheep on the isle. Mairwen had said little afterward, only looked like a woman calculating the exact amount of coin that she could squeeze from the task that the Princess had asked. The town woman had simply nodded that all would be done as the Princess had instructed, but the muttered words could not help but be heard as she strode away with purpose in her wide swaying hips, “She will owe my sons a new set of knives for the new year...aye, to be sure, a new set of knives...”

Mystified, Amelia called out after her in the best approximation of the steward's words that very morning when the Princess' instructions had been delivered, much to his chagrin. “The ways of La Principessa are a mystery, cara mia,” Giovanni had remarked with his usual grin, “we can but do our best to obey and comprehend.” He had winked at the lady in waiting as he had set forth in ordering the household staff to decorate the castle to the Princess' specifications and ready nearly every bed chamber in the two great gatehouses and those off set rooms in the towers surrounding the inner courtyard. Why, the sheer amount of linens that would need to be employed boggled the mind.

But now, as Amelia stood atop the castle walls and wondered at just exactly what her lady had planned, she looked out over the water and let the chill of the air blow past her, feeling more than snow on the wind. With a joyous anticipation, she awaited the arrival of her lady and of the guests, and of the festivities that would last from Christosmas to the New Year and on through Twelfth Night.

Lady in Waiting to Princess Jennet

Jennet had not been far behind Amelia in her travels, though she had halted briefly in Holywell to attend to some end of the year matters. She had hired a boat for the crossing, missing the rise and sway of the planking of her own ship something fierce. No vessel yet made of timber and sailcloth felt quite so sound beneath her feet as did Persephone, and more than once her thoughts wandered to her well being.

The hired ship had docked off the coast and the sailors had taken the Princess to the castle by small boat, sailing up to the Gate by the Sea, built by King Edward as a means of supplying the castle directly from the sea if under siege via a moat which rose and fell with the coastal tide waters.

It was the day before the guests were due to arrive, but the castle seemed well in readiness as Jennet stepped up out of the boat and into the outer bailey of the double concentric ring sea fortress. Even in the outer bailey, fresh greenery swagged the barbican and the gatehouses, holly wreaths had been hung above the dual guardrooms that flanked the first floors of both gatehouses, and in every single tower window that was visible from the bailey, a pristine white candle flickered and cast away the shadows of winter and replaced them with a warm rosy glow.

She had gone straightaway upon arrival to the Great Hall, which in a castle the size and scale of Beaumaris was truly “great.” Noting, along her way, that even the stables had been decorated for the season.

The first thing that met the eye upon entering was the evergreen Christosmas tree, which Giovanni had erected and decorated immediately in the center of the hall and squared with the door so that all guests would need to pass it to enter.

Jennet took only a moment to smile in appreciation of the fine arrangement of ornaments before heading on, skirting the tree, to see the two wide fireplaces of the Great Hall ablaze, warming the hall to a comfortable temperature, and decorated with exquisite attention to detail.

Not only the tree and the fireplaces, but the table setting itself was a wonder to behold. It seemed that every stick of silver in the castle had been laid out on crisp white linen tablecloths and positively sprouted fresh flowers and greenery. For a moment, Jennet wondered if there was yet still an evergreen tree upon the isle that boasted its branches intact.

With any luck, the musicians would arrive the next morning, and so too would Mistress Mairwen with the shipment requested by the Princess. Happily, Jennet's eyes sparkled with joy at what she had planned, and at what fun would be had in her home for the holiday season. She slept that night soundly, tired beyond exhaustion from her travels, but expectant of what was yet to come. All night and into the morning, the sounds of merry preparations filtered from the Hall just below.

The first day of the celebrations...

Jennet's eyes fluttered open to the faint sounds of singing from the Hall below, wafting gently like a jolly breeze of melody across the inner bailey and wending its way joyfully in between the heavy curtains that surrounded the Princess' bed. She rose with a smile, realizing that the musicians must have arrived in the night and were now tuning their instruments and warming their voices. Quickly, she flung wide the curtains, slipped her arms into her dressing gown and tied the sash round her waist. The richly embroidered dressing gown flowed around her as she caught herself humming along to the tune that was louder now that she was out of bed. Barefoot, and safe within the chambers of her own room, Jennet began to twirl and dance as she sang along.

Amelia, hearing the commotion from within, cracked open the door to the Princess' bed chamber and peered cautiously inside. She had to look twice to ensure that it was in fact her mistress within, dancing and singing, happy as a lark. She discreetly closed the door and waited until the music had ceased before entering to aid her lady with her toilette.

In the spirit which had inexplicably overtaken the Princess, she had not chosen her usual style of garment for this particular occasion. While her chestnut tresses would still be adorned with her favorite diadem, the dress was pure and unbridled whimsy.

Deciding she was presentable, she had departed her chamber for the kitchens to inquire if her requested deliveries from Mistress Mairwen had yet arrived, when Giovanni came walking briskly down the stone corridor.

"Principessa," Giovanni bowed formally in his well brushed and polished livery, "such delight to have you home with us again. The guests, my Lady, they are arriving."

"Well, my goodness, Giovanni, let them in!" Jennet laughed and tossed her hand in the air with a flick of the wrist as if to say, let the celebrations begin! "I assume that all of the guest rooms are in readiness? See those with families to the larger rooms in the upper levels of the North Gatehouse, and those needing smaller rooms to the South Gatehouse. The servants may be lodged wherever they like. We have rooms open above the stables and near the kitchens. Please to give Cardinal Faheud the large rooms on the second level of the Chapel Tower, directly above the chapel. And inquire of Prince Viceroy and Lady Cordelia when they should arrive if they prefer the more spacious suite on the third level of the Chapel Tower, or if they would prefer the privacy of the rooms in the North East Tower."

Jennet pushed away the thought of the conversation which must be had with Lady Cordelia, now Viscountess Beaumaris, about the disposition of the castle and the land following the most unusual title grant from the College of Heraldry. That was a topic for another day, but not this one. For now, there was no business, only merriment and revelry.

The Princess heard the musicians begin to sing once more as she crossed the Inner Ward towards the vast caverns of the castle kitchens. Giovanni could be seen hurrying in the opposite direction, through the South Gatehouse and the Barbican, followed by the sound of the drawbridge being lowered across the moat.

"Welcome! Welcome!" she heard the steward shout in greeting to the guests who had begun arriving. "In the name of the Princess, I welcome you!"

From across the Inner Ward, Jennet smiled and felt her toe tapping within her silk shoes to the sounds of stringed instruments and raised voices from the Great Hall overlaying the clang of metal pans within the confines of the kitchens, where she sought after the cook.

At some point, it had begun to snow...

Holding Balthor's hand she turned to her son, Happy Yuletide, she smiled at him, ruffling his hair with her free hand, kneeing down to kiss him lightly on the cheek. You ready for this she murmured as she straightened his tie, and wiped some unknown substance from his face. Waiting for his nod, she stood, turning to enter the hall, inclining her head slightly at the steward's words before taking a glass of wine from the tray offered proffered by a serving girl.

Aeffie was dressed in one of her recent creations, made especially for this occasion and she straightened the non-existing ruffles on the skirt of her dress as she made her way to the castle entrance. She took a deep, calming breath and entered, taking the hood of her cape off her head.

Surprised and very happy, she turned to see where to go next and found that her eyes rested upon two familiar figures, "Jannie! Balthor!" Hurrying over to them, she smiled and hugged them both. "How wonderful to see you two here!" She hugged Balthor one more time, since it had been a while since she had seen her godson and she thought he grew more and more each time. "Look at you all dressed up nicely like a proper gentleman! And a real handsome one too!" She kissed his cheek and turned her attention to Jannie. "Merry christomas! You look wonderful! Shall we go further inside and see if we find something to drink and eat?"

"Hmmm ... well, what do you think about that, Silly Lilly? Can we get you to stop throwing stuff around soon?" She looked at her daughter, pushing back a small curl of her brown hair behind her ear. Lilly just smiled at her mother, making her heart melt. Well, it's only a toy and she'll soon learn, she thought to herself, and she turned to find Arch smiling at her.

It wasn't the cold that caused her cheeks to grow pink and rosy. You really need to stop doing that, she scolded herself for blushing as he reached out his hand and she walked forward to the carriage. Let him dote on you, after all you dote on him as well ... just when you're alone. Is it so bad to let others see you're happy, and isn't that what matters in all of this? Being happy? she thought to herself, biting her lip as she reached her hand into his. Despite the weather around them, his hand was warm and kind; hers seemed to fit right in his. She regretted letting go of his hand but focused on getting Lilly warm in the blankets. It was no good to have a fussy child at a party, and she pulled out her toy for Lilly to entertain herself with on her lap.

Revan smiled as they settled into the carriage began their journey, chuckling as Arch spoke about the trip on the boat. "Aye, I've heard the same as well. Have to study more about it, I guess ... though to gain all that knowledge will take quite a bit of time."

His hand reached over to hers and she willingly entwined her fingers with his. Her heart began to pound as he leaned over and pecked her cheek. Revan grinned, taking her free hand and stroking his cheek. "I'm so happy to be with you ... because quite frankly, you make it seem like everyday is Christosmas for me. Thank you for that," she said, letting the smile fade away from her face as she looked at him intently, moving a bit closer to him. The lighting was dim inside the carriage, but not so dim for the image of a child's stuffed toy to register in Revan's eyes as it landed right inbetween she and Arch.

"Bahhh bah!" Lilly squealed as she had begun her game of throwing about and set forth to tell everyone about it.

"Oh, Lilly ... what am I to do with you?" Revan sighed. Her hand left his cheek as it reached to pick up the toy, giving it back to the outstretched arms of her daughter. She turned to Arch. "And thank you for dealing with this little one as well."

Sooner rather than later, and after a few more times of throwing toys went about, the carriage soon arrived at the castle gate. "Jah in Heaven," Revan whispered in Lillian's ear as they disembarked and took care of things with the staff and their trunks, "please be a good girl for me and don't throw the bunny around at dinner. You've had your fun, but no throwing at Auntie Jennet or anyone else for that matter." She turned and waited for Arch before heading inside.

The holiday season had been hard on Thalia. The news of the loss of her husband and then the birth of Anne and Adrian right at the start of the festival she had thrown on behalf of Canterbury had left her in a less than celebratory mood.

She had received a letter from the Princess Jennet, an invitation. She was still not in a celebrating mood, still mourning the loss of her husband, and still getting accustomed to being a mother to her twins. However, she knew that the time had come to accept that Malkur was gone, and that she must move on with life. Her time for mourning must soon come to an end.

It was with this in mind that Thalia packed what she could for her and her twins. She loaded it wearily into the carriage (which she had yet to return to Cordelia). She had no idea how far her destination was, only that she was already going to be late. She nursed Anne and then Adrian once, then gently rocked each to sleep. Finally, with the twins asleep, Thalia dressed herself in a gown of deep red with gold and creme accents, shedding the black gown she had been wearing.

Thalia dressed her children while they were still asleep, praising Jah and the Goddess for that blessing. She then took her twins to the carriage and readied herself for the journey ahead.

Thalia

After a long journey, a rather loud one when Anne and Adrian where awake, they finally reached their destination. It was certainly a grand and large castle, nothing less expected of a Princess. Timidly, a child in each arm, Thalia carefully exited the carriage. Not entirely ready to go in, and in truth, not knowing where to go, she enjoyed momentarily watching her children's eyes watch the falling snow.

Jannie

Jannie spun round at the sound of her name, a huge smile breaking out on her face as she realised the voice belonged to Aefie, Oh my, your a sight for sore eyes she hugged her friend close, I saw Revan before, but I'm nt sure she saw me. Jah I hate attending functions alone.

She smiled softly, sure that Aef would pick up as much on the words unsaid as those that were uttered, But Balthor was adamant that we come too the party, especially when I mention Barnaby would be here, she laughed lightly, he calls Barn the Dragon and Giant Slayer, thanks to a number of mishaps in Chard she ruffled her sons hair, a habit she was going to have to break sooner rather then later she feared, as her son automatically reached up to bat her hand away.

Food and drink sounds fabulous, Oh look she stopped to coo at the newborns, Awww how old are they, beautiful bairns she lifted her head to address the mother, who looked almost as out of place as Jannie felt

Aelan came around the corner, still trying to find where she was supposed to go. She was still confused. But then.........it was a Christomas sight if she ever had one.

"My darling sister and the babies!" Aelan squealed. She rushed forward to hug Thalia and the little ones, capturing the admirer in the middle.

"And hello person that I have just met." Aelan giggled as she hugged all four. "Merry Christomas!"

Viceroy

Viceroy smiled seeing so many familiar faces and approached Revan. "M'lady, I do believe that it has been too long since I have seen you. I hope all have been well," he asked holding a glass of egg nog in his hand.

Llyres

Settled in the small suite, Llyres felt grateful that they had been given two adjoining rooms. No doubt, their 12-year-old would have sharply protested too intimate an accommodation with his parents. However, she would thank their hostess after she'd rested a bit. Her pregnant body seemed to have a mind of its own, insisting on rest while the rest of her was eager to explore the castle, mingle, and admire the spectacular decorations.

Love, she quietly murmured to Robin who was pacing the room, Would you mind taking Adam down to meet the guests and offer our Christosmas greetings? I'll be down soon, I promise, just the briefest of naps... Even saying so, her head sunk heavily into the down pillows and her blue eyes closed with needed sleep.

Robin tugged uncomfortably at the collar of his dress shirt, his green eyes worried as he watched his wife. With a sigh, he nodded and leaned forward, pressing a warm kiss to her forehead. "Alright, love. I'll be back in a while to check on you if you aren't down in the hour. Rest well, love."

Smiling at her as she drifted to sleep, he headed over to his son's door, knocking lightly. "Adam, come on, we're going down to join the celebrations." When his son came out of his room, Robin chuckled lightly as he looked around behind his father, looking for his mum.

Where's Mum, Da? the 12 year old asked in concern as he tugged at the cuffs of his sleeves.

"Your mother needs to rest for a bit, Adam. I'll come back up to check on her if she's not down a little later. But we're going to go say hello to everyone else here. Just don't forget your manners here." The archer smiled, and headed down to see who all else was attending Princess Jennet's party.

Ladyjennet

“Right this way, my lord, my lady...” Giovanni could be heard saying, time and time again, as he directed footmen to tote and carry the trunks and baggage of the guests who were arriving as lady's maids by the dozen led visitor after visitor to their accommodations in one of the luxurious gatehouses. The guards snapped smart salutes at each carriage and horse that passed, never quite sure exactly who might be inside, and erring on the side of politeness.

Cook had been in her usual humor when the Princess had reached the castle kitchens on the far side of the North Gatehouse near the stables. The ovens had the space so warm that a fine sheen graced the forehead of the woman under whose masterful touch many thousands of dishes had been created for the Princess' table. It had taken only a moment for Cook to spread the news that Mairwen had sent word ahead with a town boy that the Princess' requested items would be delivered as requested and that she would be doing all else as instructed. Even Cook looked a little perplexed at what else those further instructions might be, but she knew better than to ask. Besides, she hadn't the time.

She turned from the Princess to pull down the metal door of the main oven, savory smelling steam rising out of the interior in a delicious smelling puff. Within, were miniature pork pies, each artfully shaped to look precisely like its normally larger counterpart, only these were mere morsels to the typical dinner plate sized pork pies that were a favorite at the Princess' table especially after a long journey. Her fingers already callused from numerous burns on the large stone oven, Cook did not faint from depositing the tiny piping hot pies on a silver platter held by a footman whose red and blue livery was in sharp contrast to the dingy well used clothing of the kitchen staff. The platter seemed fit to overflow with pork pies by the time that Cook turned the footman about and shooed him towards the corridor that led back to the Great Hall.

The Princess allowed the footman with the pork pies to increase the distance and reach the Great Hall a few minutes before she did. As she neared and the heavy wooden doors that led from the corridor to the Hall were opened by two of her guards in matching military uniforms, she looked for what must have only been a moment at the rapidly filling hall and at the smiling faces engaged in conversation. In and out of the crowd of visitors flowed the butler's staff with trays of warm mulled wine and spiced apple cider. Egg nog filled crystal glasses decorated with tiny sprigs of green and red holly. The footman with the pork pies approached each visitor in turn.

“Hors d'œuvres, my lord, my lady?” the servant asked of each, politely attempting to offer service while not interrupting conversation.

Jennet enjoyed the scene a moment, standing silently, grateful for many things this holiday season, not the least of which was to end the year surrounded by friends and family in her home.

“Welcome, everyone!” she said at last, spreading her hands expansively and smiling prettily, as she walked into the hall and took stock of who had thus far arrived.

“Why, Viceroy! So glad you could make it with all the goings on in London these days. Very glad indeed!” While the Princess would have typically offered a hand to kiss or a curtsy to a fellow Prince, in this place and on this occasion, she clapped a welcoming hand on Viceroy's shoulder with a sparkling smile. “And where, pray tell, is dear Cordelia and my darling godson?”

“Alisa and Egbert, so good of you to come so soon after the wedding. It was a truly lovely ceremony. If the two of you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to ask.” She leaned in close to whisper a bit with a conspiratorial grin, “You know, the sea coast by moonlight is a sight to behold. If you get a notion to see it, I am certain that the Master of the Horse at the stables would ready a carriage and see you safely there and back during your stay.”

“Oh, Jannie, it's a pleasure to see you again. My goodness how long has it been since we last caught up on all the news? And this handsome young gentleman must be Balthor. I trust your trip from Somerset was a pleasant one?”

“Aefernum! So glad to see that you made it safely. We were worried when we found out that you were traveling ahead of us on those awful roads through Stafford. Please make yourself at home while you're here. Perhaps we'll take a turn around the training grounds if you are so inclined before you leave,” she suggested to her apprentice sister in the Knights of Saint George.

“Thalia, my dear, you are looking as lovely as a portrait. And who are these two precious little angels?”

At the sound of the door to the outside opening once more, the Princess turned to spy her long lost relation. “Why, cousin Dylan! You made it. Good heavens, it's good to have you here for the holidays. Please help yourself to anything at all. My home is yours.”

As she made her way through the crowd, the Princess paused at a young woman whom she had not met, but whose features looked quite familiar. “Welcome to Beaumaris, my lady,” she offered to Aelan. “I am Jennet. Delighted to make your acquaintance.”

Jannie

Jannie was still busy engrossed in the babes, trying to persuade Balthor to take at least a passing interest when she was enveloped in what could only be described as a bear hug, alone with a giggle in her ear and the words And hello person that I have just met.

She turned, smiling to the owner of the voice, Hello yourself, and a happy Christomas, I'm Jannie Beauclerc, and these two are my son Balthor and my dear friend Aefernum

She was still making introductions when Jennet entered the room,

Indeed it's been far to long she said, extracting herself from one hug with a smile, to then envelop Jennet herself in a hug Aye this is Balthor, and thank you for the invite, we are very happy to be here, you have a wonderful home

Aelan giggled a moment in the hug and then turned as Jennet spoke to her. 'Oh dear Jah......'she thought to herself,' I am in the midst of royalty still in my riding clothes.'

Aelan curtseyed, and bowed her head to the woman. "Greetings, your highness, please forgive my manners. I am Aelan Kaelyn Mc Dermott Fisher, Thalia's sister and Cordelia's twin. I so hope that you are having a lovely Christomas."

Alixandra

Alixandra smiled at the woman inside the coach but was too comfortable to be injured by the silence she got from her. After awhile the gentleman joined them as well.

She ran her fingers through her hair, knowing it must look a fright, but riding this last bit instead of walking has to be an improvement upon her looks.

She looked out the window as it started to snow, waiting for the coach to arrive at the castle.

Ladylia

Time moved slowly for Lia as the month passed. Blades had escorted Ghost north, and Lia was content to stay home with Rylan, preparing for Christomas. Hopefully her husband would make it back in time, but the weather could possibly hinder things. Lia had started to decorate the house, making things festive and bright. With Colette’s help, the house was all decked out. Five year old Rylan darted through the house daily, moving the decorations from here to there, much to the chagrin of his mother and nanny.

November had blended into December, and Lia and Rylan were missing Blades. When will papa be home, Rylan almost asked daily. On this day towards the middle of the month, Lia pulled Rylan onto her lap.

Papa had to escort Auntie Ghost and Ora north, and he’ll be home quick as he can, she told him, hugging him close. Rylan snuggled against her. I hope papa comes home soon mama, he said. Lia was glad her son was still such a sweet little boy. He’ll be home soon poppit, she said, setting him down on his feet. Why don’t you go find Colette and have her make you some cookies? Lia told him, as he scampered out of the room.

Hearing a knock on the door, Lia called to Colette that she would answer it, and opened the door. A messenger stood on the other side, with a note. Thanking him she glanced at the deal, and realized it was from her cousin. Seeing the family crest, she slid her finger under the edge, breaking the seal. Uncurling the letter she saw it was an invitation to her cousin’s for a party. Smiling, she thought the holidays were as good as time as any to make amends with family.

Opening the door to call the messenger back, she asked him to wait in the kitchen while she penned a note to her husband. She quickly detailed the invitation, asking him to meet her and Rylan there, rather than coming all the way back to Winchester to fetch them. Giving the note to the messenger, and directing him to find her husband post haste, Lia quickly did some planning.

Two days later, the family found themselves on their way to Beaumaris Castle. Lia, Rylan, Colette, and even Porkchop and Meatball were making the trip. Lia had tried to tell her son that Porkchop and Meatball would be fine at home, but the boy insisted they be brought along. But mama, Rylan had said, Christomas wouldn’t be complete if we all weren’t together. Unable to argue with the boys logic, and the fact that she couldn’t resist his sweet smile that was so much like his fathers, Lia relented and allowed the family pets to make the trip.

The weather held for most of the trip, soft snow falling at times, but the roads were in good condition and very passable. I do hope your father got our note in time Lia said on the second day of the trip, as she was reading a story to Rylan. Papa will get it mama, he wouldn’t want to be away from us for too long, he said in his five year old wisdom. Kissing the top of his head, Lia smiled and continued the story.

As their destination drew closer, Lia started to fret a bit. It had been so long since she had seen her cousin, the rift between them so long ago. Jennet had never met Rylan, and Lia regretted that for awhile now. Her cousin had since become Regent, and Lia hoped that that didn’t change things as well. Holidays were a time for family, and the new year approaching was time for new beginnings. Lia pushed down her fears and replaced it with hope.

Soon they were on a carriage bound for the castle. Rylan was bouncing in his seat, looking at the countryside as it passed. Do you think papa is here yet? he said, excited. I’m not sure son, but I’m sure he won’t be too far behind.

As the carriage pulled up in front of the castle, Lia felt the bit of hesitation before allowing herself to be helped down from the carriage. Smoothing her dress and hair, she instructed Colette to attend to the smaller members of the family and their bags, as she approached the door with Rylan’s hand firmly in hers.

Where are we mama? Rylan asked. We are at my cousin’s home, your going to get to meet some of mama’s family finally for Christomas, Lia told him. Nodding, Rylan’s hand tightened around her own as she lifted a hand to knock on the door.

Viceroy chuckles at LadyJennet. "I saw Michael here earlier with one of my servants. Perhaps they are changing his diaper. I will have to make sure that you get a chance to see him. After all, whenever I am gone, you'll have to keep up to him," he says laughing with a wink.

Seri grimances as he signals for the carriage to halt.He gets out and remounts his horse.He rides ahead leaving the carriage behind,As he sees the dock where the boat is tied up fot the trip.After checking everything and the long ride in the boat.Sergi smiles as he continues his trip to the castle.He smiles at himself as he ties his horse up in a warm spot, and brushes off the snow as he limps inside.He walks with his cane holding his weight.He tries to mingle in the crowd, but feeling out of place.

Barnaby

Barnaby listened to Rhys explanation with a hint of impatience until he heard that Jennet was safe and soon to arrive. Relief was plain on his face as he suddenly felt very tired. Nodding to Rhys he replied quietly "I'll be there" before going to close the door. He paused, remembering both manners and his lack of awareness and reopened the door "Thank you for telling me about the Princess, Rhys. When exactly is the next tide?" A tired smile crossed his face and he nodded as Rhys answered his question before laying down to get some much needed sleep.

At the Castle ...

Barnaby and Rhys had arrived while preparations were underway for the celebrations and while he normally would have offered his help, he found exhaustion overtaking him and so he spent the majority of his time in the room he had been shown. It was comfortable, and more than he needed, but he had been told the Princess would insist on him having it. His thoughts turned to his own estate in Wales, the newly awarded Earldom of Pembroke. Being as close (relatively speaking, anyways) as he had been since receiving it, he had decided already that after the festivities here were concluded, he would journey there to meet the people he was now responsible for.

He awoke well rested the morning of the festivities, some of the stress that had been carried having melted away, and came down to the Great Hall to greet the other guests after having been notified that they had begun arriving. Barnaby hoped that he would see some people he knew, as he had missed time with his friends while attending Alisa and Egbert's wedding. Entering the Great Hall as Jennet was greeting her guests, he paused to watch her with a smile on his face, as he noted with pleasure that most of his friends seemed to have made it to Beaumaris.

Barnaby entered the room quietly, and approached one of his oldest friends, pleased to see that Jannie had brought her son along. Wearing simple clothes, as he preferred to do, he approached quickly, his long strides carrying him across the hall easily "Jannie," he spoke softly and smiled "I'm glad to see you made it here. Merry Christosmas." Looking down at Balthor, he grinned before kneeling down "And a Merry Christosmas to you, little Master. Are you keeping your mama out of trouble?"

Malan

When they finally entered the gates of the castle Malan breathed a sigh of relief. Sergi had gone ahead and was already inside. The carriage halted and she stepped out of it stiffly and waited for the young woman who had ridden with her. While she waited she straightened out her clothes as best she could, pinned a few loose strands of hair back into her severe bun and adjusted her glasses. Taking a deep breath she walked briskly towards the entrance of the castle, where there was warmth, cheer and hopefully a cup of hot tea.

The enormous Christmas tree in the entrance awed her just a little. But she refused to let anyone see that so just stared at it disapprovingly and gave a little hmph as she passed it.

--Balthor

Standing around, hoping slightly from one foot to another Balthor sighed. He really wished Mama had left him at home with Rebecca and Aurora. His shirt was too tight, and his breeches felt all scratchy and he didn't know anyone and Mama was cooing over some babies and then she was hugging and kissing cheeks and grrrr there were people ruffling his hair and even Auntie Aeffie didn't seem that exciting today, like for Jah's sake where was her sword, or her horse or well anything they normally spent time playing with

and then he had to skip quickly behind Mama's legs as some strange woman bent to address him and then Oh hello Sir it was the giant slayer, there in the flesh. Balthor stepped out from behind Jannie's skirt and held out his hand, quickly examining the man for any injuries he might have got since their last meeting

Thalia

I really should have stayed home, Thalia thought to herself as several people approached her. She had never enjoyed large crowds. Aelan, at least was there.

Carrying around the two of her children would soon grow weary. They had gained weight in the little less than a month since they were born. Anne was still just a twinge smaller, but still, she was starting to rival her brother. Adrian was starting to fall into a nap, which, while a blessing, meant he would become a dead weight in her arm. Anne, fully awake took in all the lights and pretty colors.

She leaned towards Aelan and whispered in her ear, "Would ye mind takin' one o' them, I dinnae think I can carry both all nigh' long."

Robin headed down the stairs with his son close behind him, and as he reached the crowd, he looked around the room for some familiar faces. Spotting Barnaby and Jannie talking together with Jannie's son Balthor, the woodsman headed toward them, Adam sticking close to his side. With a smile and another uncomfortable tug at the color of his dress shirt, Robin greeted his friends. "Hello Barnaby, Jannie. Merry Christosmas. How are you? And how are you Balthor? Are you enjoying yourself?" As Adam stepped up next to him, he settled his hand on his son's shoulder. "You remember Adam, don't you?"

Blades2005

Blades was tired of travelling, being away from home and his family. He was glad to see Ghost and bring her up to Holywell, knowing that she was there safe, and it was also nice to see his old house and visit some old friends, but it was time that he headed home. He had recieved the notice from Lady Jennet of a Christmas party for the family. He was shocked slightly by the news, knowing that they last time that he was in Holywell, and all that hppened there he was not expecting a friend letter, but more of a prince on his head. He knew that a lot had changed, both with Lady Jennet but also his own family with the addition of Rylan. He saw Ghost off to her next part of her journey, and then turned and headed south, pushing Thunder hard and fast, travelling past many towns, only stopping to rest breifly before travelling on again. With ihs sword at his side, he was not scared of anything happening, that and the fact that there were few horses that could catch up to Thunder in a dead sprint. His travel was quick and peacefull. He made it close to Beaumaris Castle, stopping off at a near by tailor shop and getting a new set of clothes, spending only a little of the money he had made while up in Holywell. He quickly dressed, and then finished the trip just as he saw Lia and little Rylan getting out of the carriage. He waited until they had their back completely turned towards the door, he walked up and picked up his little one, leaning across to tap Lia on her opposite shoulder, wondering which way she might look.

Adam Ballard smoothed his sandy brown hair again, not letting his father from his sight. It was bad enough his mother had remained in the rooms as she always moved easily through crowds, but his new clothes itched. He was about to register an under the breath complaint when they emerged into the grand room. The lad's brown eyes widened in surprise and delight. Da, he whispered almost reverently, have you ever seen anything like this in your life? The decorations, the tree, The boy, fast approaching manhood, let out a slow exhale as Robin nodded once and led him through the room. M'lord Barnaby, m'lady Jannie, hello Balthor, Merry Christosmas, he added his wishes to those of his father.

Cordelia

They had secrued a ship's passage for the next day and Cordelia returned to the Inn for the night. The next day, they sailed to Anglesey and arrived at the castle of Beaumaris. They were escorted to thier rooms on the third floor of the chapel tower, Cordelia casting an eye over the castle that by rights should be hers now. That was something that must be discussed this visit.

~The first day of festivities~

Viceroy had gone down already, it took him far less time to get ready. Sometimes there were advantages to being bald. Finally, her gown laced and her hair pinned she takes a look in the mirror. The jewels at her throat and upon her hands sparkled faintly. She almost didn't recognize herself. She fingers the silk of the gown and chuckles to herself as she thought of her father. He was likely turning in his grave knowing his hated daughter was twice a Viscountess, consort to a Prince, attending the Christosmas celebration of a Princess. Finally, she turns and accepts her fan from Lori.

She pushes open the heavy door, and makes her way down the corridor to the spiral staircase. Holding her dress, she carefully descends until she reaches the level of the Great Hall. She goes to the door and enters, taking in the decorations with a smile. As she edges through the crowd, she spies the faces of many she knew, and a few she did not.

Aefernum

Aef heard Jannie's unspoken words and nodded in agreement. Coming alone to different arrangements was never something she enjoyed, so it was great to see someone familiar.

Aef greeted the two unknown ladies and watched adoringly at the two little babies. Life's miracles and especially that of a new life was something she always found fascinating. Aef's tummy rumbled lightly, so she was able to grab some refreshments while Jannie was still adoring the children.

She saw the Princess come in and greeted her as she came to meet her. "Thank you for the invite, M'Lady! I was lucky on the road and had a safe travel, thankfully!" She smiled at Princess Jennet and continued, "Thank you, a turn on the grounds later will be fun!" She had been busy lately with traveling so her training had been neglected a bit.

The sea breeze was gently blowing towards their goal,Beaumaris Castle ,he sneezed loudly again thinking how annoying it is that even the sea air cant stop a silly cold,thanks Jah it did wonders for Bee at least.

Well hun *sniff,cough* Were close i think,shouldnt be long before we dock somewhere near there.Dont know if the Castle has its own port after all...

Later that day they docked in a small fishing port and asked if Beaumaris was near,getting a positive reply they left a few servants to guard the ship and left on their horses for the nearest town to rent a Carriage since they couldnt bring their own on the ship.

He checked his suit,all was ok,and took Fluffy with them

Since Fluffy and Buffy grew up he cant hold both at once anymore sadly,so one had to stay on the ship.

The prices were a bit expensive in town but oh well,you cant expect people to be honest.

Dont worry hun,I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse

In the end they got a reasonable price for renting it,and so they made their way towards the castle,even if a bit late...

Alixandra

Alixandra takes her time coming in. She seems to soak up the decorations, the warmth, and more then one glass of wine from a passing tray.

Not knowing many people she kept clutching the small package she brought and positioned herself near the food.

She looked at all the lovely gowns, trying not to sigh. She avoided looking down at her robe. 'Oy I hope someone doesn't mistake me for the help! If someone tosses something at me, I'm keeping it' she decided.

Chewing on one of the snacks left out, Alix eavesdropped on all the conversations. For the moment, happy to just be on the fringes.

He smiled, raising his eyebrow back in return to Jannie as she was led off by Sergi, keeping an eye on her before turning his attention back to Barnaby, nodding to Adam to keep an eye on Balthor while his mother was occupied. "It's good to see you again, Barnaby. It's been a while since we've seen you back home. Will you be coming back to visit anytime soon?"

Barnaby smiled warmly to Balthor, watching as he looked him over for new wounds. Sadly, he'd only added new ink stains to his fingers since last seeing the lad in Chard more than - he paused, thinking about it - nearly six months ago.

Looking up at a familiar voice, he stood up and extended his hand "Hello, Robin, Merry Christosmas to you?" smiling, he looked to Adam "Aye, though I think your wedding was the last time I saw him." turning to him, Barnaby smiled "No need for formalities with me, lad"

He nodded to the new man, figuring that Jennet must have invited him as he began to speak to Jannie. Seeing the raised eyebrows from his friends, he peered around looking for the Princess and after locating her across the room, called out to her "Merry Christosmas, Jen!" hoping to catch her attention. As the newcomer led Jannie off, he watched them carefully, and found his hand instinctively moving towards where his sword would be before remembering it wasn't on him. Shifting his position, Barnaby replied to Robin "I am well, my friend, and I hope to see Llyres while you both are here. I hope that she is healthy and all is well" he spoke quietly, and took a glass of wine from a passing servant "I am hopeful to return home soon to help in the port, once I visit my new lands in Wales, but we shall see where life - and duty - takes me."

Robin smiled and nodded. "I understand, but we all hope to see you in Somerset again soon. And you're more than welcome to stay with us when you pass through Bridgewater. Llyres is well, just tired, like I said. It seems the baby doesn't think carriages and ships make for very good sleep, and much prefers the chambers we were given." His grin widened further at the look on Barnaby's face, nodding since Barnaby hadn't been around to hear the news. "In about five months, we'll have another addition to our little family. Adam's going to be a big brother."

While riding on the carriage, Bee suddenly looked around like she had just awaken from a deep sleep. She panicked a little as the current events, and what they would need for them, ran through her head.

While Lia waited for someone to open the door, she contemplated knocking again. Suddenly to her side she heard a childish squeal as Rylan's hand left her grip. Rylan.... she began, ready to chastise the boy for running off, as she felt a tap on her opposite shoulder. Turning quickly, she saw no one; then turned her attentions back to where Rylan was, and was suprised to see him wrapped up in his father's arms.

Blades! Lia cried, launching herself into the arm not occupied by Rylan and wrapping her arms around her husband's waist.

Look mama... papa made it, Rylan said, burrowing his head into Blade's neck. Yes poppet he did, Lia said as she raised up on tiptoe to give her husband a kiss.

Seems my dear cousins servants cannot hear the door, she told her husband, her eyes twinkling; both with happiness, dappled with a bit of mischief. Since we are family and all, I think we should just head on in, what's the worse that can happen? she continued, her lips curving into a wry grin.

Lia and Blades knew all to well what could happen, but Lia was sure it wouldn't. Pushing open the door, Lia and her family walked into the Castle, following the lights and the noises. Rylan was pointing out this and that, pestering his papa with questions. Chuckling Lia gazed at her cousin's home, glad they made the visit.

Down the next hallway they turned, there was a servant there. Excuse me miss, but are you supposed to be here? the servant asked, looking as if they were looking for reinforcements.

Pulling out the invitation from her satchel, she showed the servant. I am Elizabeth de Peverel-Holland, cousin to the Princess. I would appreciate you finding her for me, and letting her know our family has arrived, Lia dismissed the servant with a laugh, as the girl looked upon the family wondering if there was truth to Lia's story or not. Just because Lia had stayed out of the public eye for a bit, didn't mean that she didn't belong.

Wrapping an arm around Blades' waist, she leaned into him and whispered as the followed the servant down another hallway, How many people do you think we will see that currently, or at one time or another wanted to see our heads roll? she said with a low chuckle. Lia knew there were people that didn't approve of some of the things she had done in the past, but then again, Lia had never really done anything wrong, or at least that was what the books said.

At that thought Lia chuckled again at her own private thoughts, it was always fun to keep people guessing. Well this should be fun, she said with a smile, ready to see her cousin for the first time in what seemed forever.

Disoriented, Llyres woke with a start. The plush draperies hung to fend off winter's chill, the warm, thick down bedding, her mind raced before the pieces fell into place. I hope I haven't slept too long. Swinging her legs off the bed onto the woven carpet, she quickly ran through her toilet, freshening, combing and donning her favorite blue dress. The silver necklace of entwined hearts that Robin gave her for their first anniversary hung at her throat. Well, let's see if I can recall the way down, she mused, entering the hallway, wandering down its length in search of stairs. At last she heard voices, happily heading into the merrily lit room, spying the backs of her family's heads, in light conversation with Barnaby.

Seeing the Princess engaged in conversation with Viceroy, he turned his attention back to Robin and Adam. "I miss home sometimes, and may take you up on your offer to stay with you as Chard didn't particularly feel like the town I left the last time I was there." Hearing the news of Llyres' pregnancy nearly caused him to choke on his drink, though he grinned after the coughing fit passed. "Congratulations to you, Robin" he paused as he caught sight of Llyres entering the hall and waved her over "I'm very excited for both of you, and for you too, lad" nodding and smiling to Adam.

He looked over at Jannie and - What was his name? he thought before it came back to him - Sergitov, noting that Sergitov looked back in his direction briefly. Hearing he was a McDermott reassured him, but his cautious nature caused him to unconscious make a mental note to speak to Cordelia about him.

Barnaby noted with some sadness as he took a drink that several of his friends hadn't made it and turned back to Robin again. "Have you seen Alisa and Egbert or Luja and Bee? Or heard that they weren't coming?"

She smiled as he continued his tale, nodding and listening, I'm afraid I only know of the Lady you speak by reputation and have never had the pleasure of meeting her. Perhaps today we finally will. As for what one does, I assume mingle, chat, eat, drink and be merry, though I have to confess that I tend to avoid formal functions such as these. My ex husband had an aversion to such parties and since my divorce I have avoided stepping back into the limelight. She blushed and smiled softly, unsure why she was opening up to this stranger

Jannie blushed at his words, she agreed that one couldn't dwell in the past, nor look for reasons to seek revenge otherwise one never grew nor developed as a person and she opened her mouth to say just that, and then his other words registered and she paused, looking at the stranger with a puzzled look upon her face.

His eyes were watching her closely and she blushed under his gaze, her hand fluttering to her throat. It appeared the gentleman was, well to be honest she wasn't sure what he was saying. It had been a long time since a gentleman had approached in anyway other then friendship and she was unsure of how to respond to what seemed a remarkably forward statement from a stranger.

I'm sorry? even the words startled her, as she stood, head titled to one side in a questioning manner.

Wrapping one arm around her waist, he pressed a kiss to her temple, green eyes studying her face. "Feeling better, love?" he asked quietly, smiling again as she nodded and seeing Adam visibly relax from the corner of his eye.

Looking back to Barnaby he considered, sharp eyes glancing around the room. "No, I haven't seen any of them. I wasn't sure who all was coming. I've heard nothing from them about them not being able to make it."

Balthor had been stood next to Adam, mimicking the elder boy's moves, as in fact Adam was his own father. He picked up a strange looking food from his platter and popped it into his mouth, his face scrunching up in disgust is the strong favours were released onto his tongue and he started to cough.

He looked at Adam hoping that the boy would notice but he seemed engrossed in the adults, so he turned looking for Mama, the coughing worsening and tears spring to his eyes. Where was Mama, and what to do?, the thing was disgusting and Oh Jah, Balthor coughed and spluttered a little more violently before expelling the contents of his stomach all over the floor. I want my MAMA he started to sob, his voice rising on the final word as he looked at Mama's friends

Robin turned as he heard the coughing, just in time to see Balthor get sick over the floor. Turning to scan the room where he last saw Jannie, he was moving before he even realized, flagging down a servant to come and clean up the mess. Spotting Jannie, he murmured to his son, "Quick, Adam, go get Jannie. She's over there by the bar." He watched out of the corner of his eye as Adam ran off gratefully, his nose wrinkled at the smell, and as Llyres joined him to comfort the boy, having started moving even as he did. Heading to another servant as his wife led the boy away from the mess, Robin gathered up two glasses of water and a napkin from the tray, returning to kneel down beside where Llyres was comforting Balthor.

"Here, little man," he said gently, handing a glass to the little boy. "Swish and spit back into the glass, let's get that taste out of your mouth. You can sip the other one. Adam went to get your Mama, she'll be here soon." Robin used the napkin to clean what mess was left on Balthor's face, glancing at his wife before looking around to see if Adam had gotten Jannie yet.

Jannie smiled, Oh I have no complaints about my past, for it has been as eventful and rewarding as yours sounds. In fact it has shaped and moulded me into the person you see before you and I'm grateful for the journey I had to take in order to reach this point in my life

She paused, hearing a noise and what sounded remarkably like Balthor's voice raised above the chatter of the room. She turned her head back in the direction of the group she had left Balthor with only to jump as Robin and Llyres son appeared at her elbow Hello Adam, her eyes scanning behind him, around the room until they focused upon Robin and Llyres with what appeared to be a bedraggled and despondent Balthor Oh you have come to fetch me? Thank you she allowed the boy neither time to deliver his message, nor to respond before she turned back to Sergi It appears my son is in need of me, please excuse me will you? I have to attend to him.

Turning she dropped the tea cup lightly onto the table, before hurrying quickly across the room to where a very grin looking child was being cared for by Robin and Llyres Oh my, thank you. How is he, do we know what's wrong she reached a hand out to sooth his forehead I think I best call for my carriage, she looked at Robin would you mind?

Llyres caught Barnaby's eye and waved happily, eager to greet her much missed friend and wish him a happy new year. Reaching Robin's side, with a kiss on his cheek and a murmur apologizing for being so long, she'd just managed to gaze around the room when young Balthor needed some help and comfort.

Adam whisked off to gather Jannie from where she was in polite conversation with a man Llyres did not recognize. She was pleased to see Balthor brighten as his mother returned to her side.

Merry Christosmas and Happy New Year, Jannie, she hugged her friend lightly, a sympathetic look in her eyes. I'm sure it was just the pate that upset his young tastebuds.

The McNeils together with their nanny, Matilda, had arrived in town on New Years Eve. It was too late to make passage to Beaumaris so they booked some rooms in a local inn. That evening they had joined in the celebrations, and a good time was had by all, maybe too good a time.

The next morning, Nigel awoke to a pounding headache, he thought last night had been fun, but maybe I'm going to regret it today. After laying there a few minutes, he got out of bed and got washed and dressed. Then he writes a quick note for Aldea explaining he was going to get some fresh air and arrange passage across to Anglesey and Beaumaris. Nigel then goes downstairs and leaves the inn.

Thirty minutes later Nigel arrives back, with a much clearer head and the passage all booked. He then goes back to the room to see if Aldea is awake. Once everyone is awake, washed and dressed, they all have breakfast in the inn. Nigel arranges with the Innkeeper to leave the horses and wagon at the Inn whilst they are at the castle. Glad they had brought so little luggage with them Nigel and the others head down to the docks and board the ship that will take them across to Anglesey.

Aldea had felt Nigel quietly get out of bed but kept her eyes closed, she didn't want to arise just yet or indeed to be disturbed. She just lay snuggled up in the strange bed gazing up at the rafters thinking how was she going to get through the journey on a ship.

She wasn't feeling well and had kept her symptoms to herself until she was sure. Reaching for her bag she searched inside for a ginger biscuit which she had made and secretly hidden, to nibble on hoping to dissuade the rising sickness.

Some time later she got out of bed and make the effort to get dressed and prepared for their journey. Feeling a little better she started to look forward to the celebrations, of meeting the hostess, whom she had never met.

Suddenly the door burst open and the children bounded into the room with their nanny eager to start on the new adventure of travelling by ship.
She laughed and gathered them to her, "Ok my darlings let's go and find Daddy and our adventure can begin!"

Once gathered altogether the McNeils headed towards the dock, Ashleigh excitedly asking so many questions making both Nigel and herself so exasperated at their impatient daughter always wanting to know this and that, but she soon became quiet when she saw the ship and they started boarding.
You could see that Ashleigh was overwhelmed by the size of the ship, in fact so was Aldea, this indeed would be a new experience for her too.

Nigel and Aldea stand at the railing of the ship as it sets off across to the Isle of Anglesey. They were lucky to have found a ship that was taking goods across that they could get passage on. Nigel puts his arm around Aldea as they stand there with the children and Matilda.

As he turns to Aldea, Nigel notices her paleness, he thinks maybe she is feel a bit quesy from the motion of the ship and he decides to try to take her mind off it.

"Come on everyone let's go to the front of the ship. Who will be first to see the docks on Anglesey or the castle?"

Aldea held onto the rails and leaned close to Nigel, staring at the horizon as the ship gently rode the waves. She lifted her face to catch the breeze which helped to cool her face. She felt him watching her and turned to give him a gentle smile.

Ashleigh was holding her fathers hand tightly, quiet for once at this new experience and Lucian was staggering around trying to keep his little legs from slipping from under him and clutching at Matildas hand.

In the distance she could just make out a shoreline and breathed a sigh of relief as soon now they would be on dry land.

She was eager to meet Princess Jennet as she had heard people had spoken with nothing but praise for her. Also most of Aldea's family, the McDermotts would be there also, the first time in ages that they were going to be gathered altogether.

Pointing out the docks to the children she held Nigels hand and squeezed, knowing they would enjoy this special occasion.......

Jennet returned Jannie's warm hug and smiled softly down at Balthor, who had hidden quickly behind his mother's leg. She thanked Jannie for her compliments on the beauty of Beaumaris, and politely neglected to mention that this was only one of her castles and manors that were spread out all over England. Though Beaumaris was by far the Princess' favorite and the house at which she spent the most leisurely time. There was something about the island of Anglesey that brought Jennet peace. The people were most agreeable and the mixture of wonder at the ancient standing stones, natural beauty of the sea, and modern industry was so very suitable to the Princess that very often she had the greatest of difficulty leaving, even when far London called.

Lady Aelan's curtsy surprised Jennet, and she reached a hand out to the young woman in greeting. "Please, my lady, there is no need for such formality here in Anglesey. In London, I am 'Her Royal Highness'. Here I am simply Jennet, and you are among friends. Cordelia is one of my dearest friends. I should have known the resemblance immediately. You are most welcome, please make yourself at home."

Jennet nodded and smiled at Sergitov and Malan as they entered, and at Alixandra who had accompanied them. Robin and Adam came into the hall and joined the crowd, at which Jennet raised a hand in greeting. She asked Amelia to go and attend to Thalia with her delightful bundle while the Princess herself stood in conversation with Viceroy.

A shadow passed over Jennet's face as Viceroy mentioned that she would have to keep up with her godson when Viceroy himself was gone. Nearing 50 years of age, the Princess knew that her friend was much older than her own 28 years, but nevertheless, there was always that hope that the two of them would live forever, taunting the establishment and fighting the good fight shoulder to shoulder. The mere thought that the day would come when Viceroy was no longer there saddened the Princess' heart, and she had to shake the feeling of dread off with great difficulty.

"Oh, Viceroy, fie on you for such a thought. After all, who is to say but that young Michael Mortimer will not be hard pressed to keep up with his godmother?" She winked at him and continued in response to his question, "I feel as if we've invited half the kingdom for supper. Let's see, we are still missing Nigel and Aldea, and Luka and Bee from Somerset shall hopefully be along shortly. I have also invited my cousin Ceana from Scotland. You know, the one that married the Campbell lad. But I have so far not heard if she will attend. We hear that the Scots can be quite captivating."

Jennet chuckled and went to embrace Cordelia as she entered the room, turning at the last moment to wave and cast a bright smile upon the Earl Marshal, returning his cheerful greeting, "Merry Christosmas, Barnaby!" with perhaps a touch more cheer than normal.

A slightly startled servant had just come scampering up to the Princess, quickly attempting to tell her the news of who exactly had just arrived when the group in question entered the Great Hall. There before her was a sight she had not seen in many a year, her own cousin Lia, with Blades and a young boy that she could only assume was their son, Rylan. He bore a striking resemblance to both of his parents.

Jennet had heard some long while ago that her former friends and family, turned blood enemies after the events in Chester, had left the Wolves of Sherwood, this time for good. Scattered reports had reached her since that had confirmed this news. Jennet was hesitant. She had believed such things before, only to be fooled. But there was something about this time that made her hopeful. She had spent weeks fretting over whether or not to send the invitation in the first place, but, at last, she had. If the two of them meant harm, there were enough guards around Beaumaris that she was certain she would be well. And, if the rumors were true, then she felt it was important to offer a hand in friendship as they redeemed themselves. They were, after all, family.

The Princess took a deep breath and squared her shoulders as the poor startled house maid pointed frantically at the people in the doorway. Jennet calmed the woman and muttered, "It will be alright, Alis." She did a mental check of where all of the sharp objects were to hand in case she needed one rapidly, the old reflexes of so long ago stirring beneath the veneer of the courtly and well mannered princess, and then she walked across the room gracefully.

"Lia...cousin...Blades...welcome to my home...to our home," she amended, making note that Beaumaris was the family castle. She paused for a moment before reaching her arms out to the blonde woman, wondering if she would accept the gesture, and at her willingness to offer it. "And this young man must be my cousin Rylan," Jennet turned a comforting smile on the boy and knelt before him, offering her hand to the child.

It was then that young Balthor seemed to find the pâté disagreeable and his mother began to usher him out. Jennet quickly called Alis over to attend to the young man and his mother, and to offer rooms to Jannie and Balthor should they wish to remain, though retire for a time until the child was feeling better.

Somewhere in the midst of it all, the minstrels began to sing once more.

She turned her head to smile at Viceroy, and curtsied, carefully trying to balance Lillian in her arms as she did so. "Good to see you! I've been thinking - "

"Ahhhhhhhhh!" Lillian cried out in terror, her favorite toy gone from her arms and her voice raised in protest.

"Lillian! My apologies, Viceroy ... I think we might have lost Mr. Bunny in the carriage. Excuse me, please ... we best find him before Lilly's entire world falls apart."

Off they went, back into the carriage, but to no avail. Tears streamed down Lily's cheeks as they left the carriage. "Oh, don't worry, we're going to find it," Revan tried to calm her down, but the girl wailed louder. A servant, a mere slip of a girl, then approached her.

"Ma'am, beggin' ya pardon, but I can help?" She was skinny as a sword, barely looking old enough to hold her post. But she was dutiful and listened carefully to Rev. She even offered her arms to take the screaming baby, but Lillian was cranky and wouldn't go to her. "We can have the stable boys search for it, and I can bring you two up to your rooms. We might have a few toys that she might like instead."

Rev sighed in relief. "I'm not sure about instead, but let's go. She's inherited stubbonness from both of her parents, so she'll just keep at it if we stand out here."

After a good half an hour calming Lillian down, the young maid sat on the floor trying to appease the one year old. The maid's attentions weren't enough to completely put a smile on the baby's face, but they were definitely growing on her, so much that Revan was allowed to get changed from her traveling clothes into a blue velvet dress with ermine fur lining. She smiled as she came upon the two, the smile turning wistful as the maid reminded her of her former step-daughter, Alicia. How she missed her ... and how she wished that Alicia and Lillian could have grown up together.

"You look very nice, ma'am," the girl remarked to her, stirring Revan out of her daze. "If you wish, you can go down with the rest of the revelers. I don't mind watching her, not at all ... I'll get a smile out of her yet, I swear it, ma'am."

She sighed. Well, it was no good bringing down an irritable baby to dinner in the first place. "Thank you, I appreciate it. Sincerely. Come find me if she wears you down. Just ... can you point me in the right direction?"

With that, Revan headed down the stairs and to the main hall, walking past Jannie and Balthor, who looked a little green. She quickly snagged a goblet of wine and sighed, wondering what had happened to Arch and what else she had missed.

Lia had to laugh as her cousin's servant seemed agitated. Truth be told, usually the presence of herself, or her husband sent guards scampering. But since all the dealings in Chester, and her resounding fallout with her old family of the wolves, Lia had retreated to a more private life, content for now to stay at home with her young son. This could have been brought about by the kidnapping of Rylan during their stay in Chester, or just the fact that Lia was looking for a change.

Entering the Grand Hall, Lia had to contain her laughter as the servant scampered up to her cousin, and she could see the emotions playing across her cousin's face. Determined for a new beginning, Lia moved forward with Blades and Rylan to greet her cousin.

Watching Jennet turn to Rylan, she chuckled as the young boy wrapped his arms around his father's leg and buried his head in his father's trousers. Rylan, don't play shy, she chuckled lightly. Disentangling him from his father's leg, Lia bent down to the five year old's level.

Rylan, this is mama's cousin Jennet, she told him, giving him a smile. You have more family than just me and papa, so say hello.

'ello, Rylan whispered, still taking it all in. Tugging at his mama's skirts he whispered, Does that mean there are others for me to play with?

Lia chuckled and looked to her cousin for an answer. I don't know poppet, I think there is more family than even I am aware of. Perhaps we'll meet a few, she told him.

Brightening at the activity in the room, Lia looked around. Perhaps we'll meet some of mama and papa's friends, she told Rylan, taking his hand. In a voice only her husband and cousin could hear she whispered, Or perhaps we might see some of our old enemies.

Lance

He had happened upon Jennet in the streets of London, during the first day of his visit to England. In true English fashion, the first thing he was given was an invitation to a party. I guess some stereotypes are true, he chuckled to himself as he now found himself walking along the road that led to Anglesey with his cousin Ceana.

I hope you know I'm going to blame you for all of this if things don't go over well tonight, he gave her his usual sarcastic grin. He was never one to resist a god jab and the joking always helped settle his nerves. It was an odd mix of the curiosity of meeting new people and trepidation at knowing he was bound to be the odd person at the gathering. Still, his own curiosity always won out and he had decided to come, if nothing else he could help reinforce some of their convictions of just how barbaric Campbell men could be. Also he jumped at the opportunity to do as the English due and use his title where it meant something, in England, unlike Scotland.

As he approached the entrance, he wasn't quite sure if he should just walk in and make some sort of grand entrance, or wait for some servant to happen up on him and lead him to where he needed to be. In typical Lance fashion, he picked the first option and headed right through the doors into the inviting interior of the Castle. It seemed this was a bit of a family gathering, or at least close friends. He saw the crowd ahead of him, all unfamiliar, embracing each other in greeting.

Thinking better of jumping right into the thick of things, he turned to Ceana, indicating for her to introduce both of them . . .

Her letter in hand, she stuffed it into her pocket again. It had become warn and torn with the hasty traveling. She bundled Phoenix up. She had been thinking upon the invitation for such a while, she wasn't sure what her husband would think about her traveling so far without him.

Lance had planned on going doing some traveling, and she thought she would catch a ride with him. She wasn't even sure how she was to get back yet, but she was absolutely certain that her husband would be furious. She would worry about that later. As they walked down the lane, Lance had his usual charm about him. If it doesn't go well? She chuckled. You do realize Jeth is going to skin me alive for taking off so hastily. And I have already decided that I will blame it on you.

As they stepped though the threshold, she followed Lances lead, though by his side. She was unsure if it had been appropriate to bring her very young son, but she wasn't sure when the next time she would be here. She had wanted to see her cousin Jennet for some time now, and it was such a sudden moment that the opportunity arose.

Lance seemed to look to her for a start to introductions.. she almost burst out laughing at the look upon his face, thinking to herself... Boy did you pick the wrong person, buddy! But instead, she turned to a servant that was passing buy. Excuse me... Can you direct me to where Her Royal Highness, Princess Jennet is? The servant was about to lead them, but she waved the thought away. The place was huge, as she figured it would be. he gave her instructions, and she turned to Lance.. Shall we? the grin on her face said.. this could be fun... and with that, she started inside, making her way to her cousin.

The Princess was not hard to find, as people were gathered around her. She held back, waiting her turn to say hello.

Viceroy

Viceroy nods towards Sergitov. Hearing Ladyjennet tease, he chuckled. "I do remember I was one fiesty young boy once," he said with a wink.

Barnaby

Barnaby smiled warmly as Llyres approached, turning to look on as Adam tended to Balthor till Jannie came back over. When she announced her intentions to depart, he spoke impulsively "Jannie, I'm sure that Jen wouldn't mind if you and Balthor rested here. Its big enough that you can't hardly hear - " he paused as his face grew warm and a sheepish smile crept over his face " - it doesn't matter, the place is very large, and the accomodations are quite comfortable for a tired mother and ill lad to make a full recovery."

Hoping she would stay, he looked up as Jennet's voice carried her greeting back and smiled. He noted the arrival of someone he hadn't seen since Jennet's coronation and her husband, who'd he'd seen early in the year in Bristol. Barnaby chuckled a bit as he quickly recalled his reaction to finding out that Jennet was related to Lia and Blades. Taking a deep breath, he excused himself for a moment and walked over to the group, placing his hand gently on the small of Jennet's back and waiting for her to acknowledge him.

Out of habit, he tended to fall back on people watching and so he couldn't help but notice the two newest arrivals as he half listened to the interaction between Jennet, Lia and Rylan. Both of the newcomers seemed a bit out of their element. He felt like he should know who they were, but his brain couldn't attach names to the faces he saw.

“As are you, cousin,” Jennet replied, relaxing ever so slightly at the hug. There was a pregnant pause as Lia mentioned time to heal old wounds. Some wounds ran deep, on all sides, and while Jennet was certain that all would not be put aside in a single night, still, the future would take priority over the past in good time. A generous smile graced her lips and she inclined her head in agreement, feeling Barnaby step behind her and put his hand to the small of her back. Just like that, she could feel his support without a word spoken, knowing that he would be beside her no matter if it was a duel or a dinner party she had to face. She pushed aside the memories of the catastrophe of misunderstanding which had occurred at Lia and Blades’ wedding and, instead, looked on the small face, so much of both father and mother peeping out from small inquisitive eyes.

“Rylan, I have a friend that I would like for you to meet.”

Jennet whistled, a sharp but quiet sound, not even loud enough to rise above the din of the conversation in the room. All at once, a silver and white head rose from where the wolf had been reclining by the crackling fireplace, so still as if to appear a statue. Sleek and silent, the predator wound around the outer perimeter of the crowd, slowly making its way towards the small boy, never taking its eyes from the Princess’ back. As the wolf neared, it glanced at the child and then ducked its head to nudge at the Princess’ hand, at which Jennet smiled and rubbed the downy soft head affectionately.

“Rylan, this is Arianeira…Aria for short…it means Silver Snow in the language they speak here. Aria, this is Rylan…” Jennet caught the wolf’s eye and looked towards the boy who was tugging at his mother’s skirts. Gently, the wolf nudged at the boy’s hand, tentative, understanding even, waiting to see if the child would pet as her mistress had, or even play in the spacious hall.

“I nearly named her Loki for all the draperies I lost when she was a puppy,”Jennet chuckled in explanation to Lia and Blades while the wolf made a sound akin to a huff. “But she is only a great trickster sometimes, a noble guardian always.”Jennet’s hand brushed the white and silver fur once more, but her attention was pulled away by new guests arriving.

“Cousins, make yourselves at home here. Dinner will be served momentarily.”

“Cousin Ceana!” Jennet exclaimed as she turned, her eyes not quite believing the sight before her. Ceana, her dear cousin who had gone to the far north and married Jethro Campbell, was as lovely as ever, a vision with a young child in her arms, who could only be her son. Happily, she crossed the distance and reached out to embrace Ceana and coo over the boy. “And who is this adorable bundle?”

“And Lance Dunbar…or should I call you Your Excellency, Baron perhaps?”There was a merry twinkle of mischief in the Princess’ eye as she asked, half serious and half in jest at the former Duke of Galloway’s entrance into her Great Hall. How many days during the Great War had the Princess as Regent and the Baron as Duke postured and bristled, only to come back to the table to discuss peace. And now the Princess was welcoming the former Duke into her home for a celebration of friends and family. A strange occurrence some might say, but perfectly fitting was the Princess’ summation, and she offered her hand to the highland lord with sincerity.

“Come, come, dinner will be shortly served. Help yourselves to drinks, as you like, and those tiny pork pastries are delightful.”

Jennet ushered the guests towards the large exquisitely carved wooden dining table, upon which glittered white candles in silver candelabra, reflecting off of the white tablecloths and the festive greenery.

“Barnaby, would you be so kind as to help me urge everyone towards the table? Cook will be furious if her dishes are not served at precisely the perfect temperature to appreciate the saveurs salées that she has prepared for our dining pleasure, "Jennet affected her best impression of the Cook’s intermittent French and smiled.

Barnaby nodded to Lia and Blades as he listened, unobtrusively, while Lia and Jennet spoke. His expression was relaxed, fitting for the occasion. A smile broke across his face as Jennet met her young cousin for the first time and introduced young Rylan to one of her wolves.

He chuckled a bit at hearing that one of the newcomers was one Ceana Campbell. Barnaby remembered his surprise when he'd recieved a letter saying she could no longer speak with him, having been forbidden by her husband. Smiling to her, he made a note to have Jennet check and see if he were allowed to talk to her now that matters were over, at least for the moment.

Knowing who one of the newcomers was made the shock of seeing Lance Dunbar, a man he'd exchanged correspondence with on several occasions during the conflict in Carlisle. Barnaby knew that Jennet spoke with him regularly, and had since her time as Regent, in an effort to secure peace between Galloway and England.

Hearing Jen's request, he nodded and smiled to her, looking over the room and seeing pockets of conversation. Barnaby cupped his hands to his mouth and called out loudly "Dinner is on the table, so eat while its hot!" turning towards Jen with a playful expression on his face.

Having settled Balthor into one of the many guest rooms and given instructions to the maid that she was to be found if her son needed her, or if there was only change in him, Jannie quickly checked her hair and dress before hurrying back downstairs.

Entering the main hall she realised that dinner had been announced and she looked around trying to see if she could see any of her friends, before spying Barnaby and making her way to where he was, trying to catch his attention as she did so.

Barnaby's call to dinner startled her out of her musings, With a relaxed smile but eyes bright and merry, the blonde tugged lightly at her husband's sleeve. Come, love, I wonder if we'll recognize any of the dishes, and if the newlyweds Alisa and Egbert will remember to eat, she softly teased, guiding her family to the beautiful dining table.

Barnaby watched amusedly as people filed into the dining hall, slowly coming over to stand by Jennet, his hand once again settling on her lower back. "Your wish is my command, Highness" he teased, dropping into a low bow before standing up and grinning at her.

He noted Jannie coming back down and waved as her gaze settled on him. "Balthor all settled then?" he spoke quietly as she walked up to him, glad she'd decided to stay. Barnaby nodded to Robin and Llyres as they passed into the hall for dinner, waiting for all the other guests to be seated before entering himself with Jennet.

After the long carriage trip that lasted for weeks, the still newly wed couple had rested and freshened up before walking down into the dining area. Egbert was holding Alisa by her arm and leading her in with all the other guests at the party. They nodded quietly to greet the people they recognized and stopped for a minute to greet the hosts properly.

Egbert bowed and said with a warm smile, Princess Jennet, How do you do? Have you met my wife Alisa? It is usually her that introduces me to people at these events. It was most kind of her royal highness to invite us to this magnificent party. Egbert then turned to Barnaby and said, Lord Barnaby, good to see you again. I look forward to seeing you back in Chard soon.

"That's what happens when you lay down for a nap on a comfortable bed" Arch muttered to himself as he quickly washed his face in an effort to wake up and look presentable for dinner. As soon as he was dressed, he hurried downstairs and eventually managed to find the banquet hall. Ah, just in time after all.

Arch smiles, keeping his eyes on the lookout for Revan and Lillian as he approaches the guests slowly making their way to the banquet hall. Happy to see a few familiar faces, he patiently waits for breaks in conversations before greeting friends and acquaintances.

Hearing Egbert's words about returning to Chard, he chuckled a little "I have a Castle in Wales to visit, but I am hopeful we" he paused momentarily to look over to Jennet "shall be coming to Somerset in the near future." Standing next to Jennet, he waited for the other guests to make their way into the dining hall, his stomach rumbling appreciatively at the aromas wafting from the tables. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw his cousin enter the Great Hall, and smiled as he nodded to him, whispering to Jennet "If Arch is here, I'll bet Revan is too"

Malan had spent some time freshening up after the journey. It had taken more out of her than she had thought. She spent more than a few minutes standing in the corridor trying to work up the courage to go into the bustle and noise of the party.

You are far too old to be afraid of parties and meeting new faces. Now pull yourself together and stop dithering! She had to tell herself this quite sharply several times.

She stepped out just as the call for dinner came and was relieved that she did not have to mingle immediately. Instead she simply followed the others towards the dining area even managing to smile a little when she saw some of the children.

She looked around anxiously for her family members, hoping she would recognize them after all this time.

Alisa

Alisa let her eyes take in the splendor of the castle again as Egbert guided her to meet their hosts. She stood at her new husband's side, smiling as he greeted the Princess and Barnaby. She smiled and returned Barnaby's hug after he shook her husband's hand in welcome.

As Barnaby listed their friends from Somerset who were also in attendance, Alisa looked around hoping to spot someone. Seeing Arch walk in, she smiled even bigger knowing that Revan was most likely not far behind. Turning to look back at Barnaby, "I am pleased to realize so many dear friends are here also. I'll admit I was nervous about this dinner, but now it feels more like a party at home."

Hearing a tell-tale tummy grumble, Alisa lifted her hand to cover a slight giggle, before turning to Egbert and saying to him, "Let's go into the Dining Hall and find our seats." Turning to look back at Barnaby grinning, she continued, "I would hate if dinner is delayed and it is our fault if people start passing out faint with hunger."

Jennet nearly jumped out of her own skin as Barnaby yelled out, “Dinner is on the table, so eat while it’s hot!” It was only the playful expression on his handsome face which forestalled the swat to his arm which had been coming. The low bow from the Earl Marshal and the grin caused her to break out into an open giggle. “My command, eh? We shall have to test your resolve in that during your stay here, my dear,” Jennet teased in return.

Cardinal Faheud arrived and Jennet welcomed him to her home warmly, ushering him in from the bitter chill. She saw Jannie return from settling Balthor, knowing that the household maids would watch over him well, as they did all things. Side by side with Barnaby, she also nodded at Robin and Llyres and their son, hoping that they would get to speak more over dinner.

When Egbert addressed her, Jennet stopped and held out her hand in greeting, “My lord Egbert, welcome. I am so glad that you and your lady wife could make it so soon after the wedding. Alisa and I have met often in the halls of the Royal Honors Authority, and I was delighted to hear that she had found such a suitable match. Why, I swear I hear nothing but good of you, sir.”

The notion was all so new, but Jennet smiled a bit shyly at Barnaby and nodded in agreement, “Yes…’we’.” The thought of touring Somerset on the arm of the man by her side suddenly set the Princess’ heart a flutter, and her cheeks flushed a slight shade of pink before her characteristic court training came to bear and pushed down the wave of pleasant emotion that had just wept over her.

It was at that very moment that Mistress Mairwen entered the hall, a bit of snow swirling around her as the door opened and then abruptly shut, pushed closed by one of the footman in royal livery who stood scattered about at various entrances and exits. Mairwen took one moment to size up the room, not bothering to bow to lord or lady or Prince, as she caught sight of Jennet and marched towards her with purposeful stride.

“I will have ye know, Your Highness, that yer request has been carried out, and with no small amount of skill and precision, I’ll warrant, by my own strapping lads. Why they’ve marched the things all the way over from the pasture where the firepits were built. But no finer and no better can ye have for such a dinner, of that ye can be sure.” The aging woman stood in that self satisfied way that said even if no one else noticed, she knew that she had completed a job well done and was content with her duties fulfilled.

An amused smirk appeared at the corner of Jennet’s mouth and she nodded and straightened, affecting a more serious tone than her face portrayed. “Why, thank you, Mistress Mairwen. I knew that if anyone could accomplish such a gargantuan task, it would be you. I trust that the items in question have been delivered to Cook and that our other guests will be soon on their way?”

“Cook has them, yes indeed, and she was taking a knife to them even before I had left that great roaring kitchen of yers. As to the ‘guests,’ they’ll come, and soon, though why ye would bother with such a thing...well, the town council did discuss whether ye might be a wee bit touched, but all in all ‘twas decided that it was a right generous gesture and there was no very great harm in it.”

“Very sensible,” Jennet agreed and nodded sternly , barely able to keep the laughter from bursting forth from her lips.

“I’d best be back to shooing that lot along, but don’t ye be forgetting that all of this must needs be replaced come spring, and four sharp new knives to boot.”

“I should be ashamed if ever I forget such a thing, Mistress. One of my staff shall accompany you to Holywell come spring and all shall be returned to you, my word to Jah’s ear.”

The town woman made a satisfied grunt that sounded somewhat like “mhmmph” and turned on her heel without acknowledgement more and traipsed back into the bitter weather. The very moment that the door slammed shut, the Princess burst out into laughter so merry and bright that she temporarily forgot her guests entirely and simply laughed in merriment at the joy of living here on this blessed isle with these most eccentric and dear people.

Some time later, all had entered the great hall and been properly seated at the expansive table which dominated the room. White candles burned warmly in silver candelabra, reflecting off crisp white tablecloths, and all was warmed about by the two crackling fireplaces which had been poked and prodded to burn brighter by the footman set the task. Jennet turned as the door leading from the kitchens opened wide and Giovanni entered clad in his most elegant steward’s attire, followed by what seemed like an army of serving staff carrying a dizzying array of rich dishes

“Principessa, Your Royal Highness,” Giovanni intoned formally, looking first to the Princess and then to Viceroy, “Honored guests, the first course is served!”

Silver serving platters heaped high with fresh fruits from the isle already adorned the table, most prominently full of apples grown right here on the island. Jennet glanced at Barnaby sitting next to her and she absently wondered if she would get to share the story of these apples with him during the evening. That intriguing story, like so many others, she longed to share with him because she knew instinctively that he would appreciate the wee bit of history and myth just as much as she did.

“Cawl Cennin!” Giovanno called out, as the soup tureens on the side board were opened, the aromas wafting over the dinner guests temptingly. With great care, the creamed leek soup was ladled into elegant porcelain bowls and set before the guests, along with a small plate of the most delicate manchet bread and butter.

“Oak Smoked Anglesey Sea Bass!” Giovanni announced as the servants carrying the trenchers with the whole fish surrounded by vegetables placed them in the center row of the table at intervals along.

“Steamed cockles in garlic and butter!”

“And roast goose!”

The table nearly filled to overflowing with dishes, and this merely being the first of three courses for the evening, Jennet wondered if her guests were quite ready for a truly royal feast filled with the aromas and flavors of this fertile island, but she called for the wine glasses to be filled, and reached for Barnaby’s hand discretely under the table.

“Please, everyone, help yourselves!” she announced happily.

Malan wasted no time in finding a seat and getting started on dinner. The first few mouthfuls of soup convinced her that whoever had cooked the meal was a genius. Thinking back to her own disastrous attempts at cooking she couldn't help but think how strange it was to be eating food that didn't have any burnt bits or raw bits and that didn't taste like mud.

I must meet the cook. The woman has to be using magic of some sort to turn out a whole feast like this. She thought out loud, not realizing that she could be heard.

And to think, a few days ago she'd happily eaten a burnt apple pie with garlic in it and eel, cabbage and strawberry jam sandwiches!

Llyres smiled happily as more guests filled in around the table and the magnifencent feast was set for them to enjoy. Had the Princess said first course? Llyres found herself thankful that the months of quesiness had passed that she now enjoyed eating for two. Sipping rich wine between tastes of the rich dishes, Llyres felt transported beyond the truly pressing cares of the day.

Finally relaxing, she turned happy blue eyes on the Princess. Your Highness, thank you for this lovely meal and the invitation to share the joy of the holidays with you. The hospitality is a good reminder that even in dark times, we must pause and find delight where we may. With an easy smile to the Princess and Earl Marshall,and pretending she had not overheard mention of her beloved home, she continued, If your own travels ever take you south to Somerset, may I invite you to take refreshment at Somerton? Robin, Adam and I have opened the doors of Somerton Court to those in need, mostly children. It would be a rare honor for these displaced children to welcome such a guest. The blonde turned to Robin, watching him nod his endorsement of the idea.

Nodding she sighed, knowing exactly how he felt, she always came to these formal occasions, filled with dread at yet again being the single female, alone and often feeling snubbed and disregarded even by those supposed friends, that she would slip away as quickly as possible.

Though to be honest it had been the same when she was married, since Robert wasn't quite as polite as she and had always just refused to attend meaning she would attend alone even back in the days of marriage.

A walk? Erhm, I will need to check on Balthor after dinner, but perhaps if its not to cold, and we stay within view of others it would be fine she blushed and suddenly found the table linen of great interest

He flushed slightly at his slip, not wanting to offend either.

Robin smiled at his son's words and diplomacy before leaning toward Llyres to murmur in her ear. "Though if they did come, poor Elizabeth will be beside herself trying to set everything up perfectly. We'd have to ask Peter to help calm her down."

Aye the food looks wonderful and it's a pleasure to sit down and enjoy a meal with people. she smiled and took a forkfull of food, popping it into her mouth before swallowing and looking around the table.

I also have very little company these days. My sister and I live a quiet existence in Bridgewater, along with my son Balthor and our cousin Rebecca. The friends I have I can count on one hand, I like it like that since I have been hurt once to many by double standards and nastiness, I prefer to avoid those situations, hence it is a rarity these days for me to attend such functions. However I have know Jennet since, well she laughed lightly actually since before my marriage, In fact Jennet was a guest at it, and Barnaby is a dear friend from Chard so when the invite arrived I couldn't refuse, especially since Balthor things Barnaby is both a dragon slayer and a gaint tamer she giggled and her shoulders shook a little with concealed mirth, Anyway, Jannie continued when the laughter had subsided, enough about me
