= [ORP] The Launce: Launceston Castle

Faith's eye's lit up as she pushed Belle aside and spun to greet Roberta. "Boo!!" She cried excitedly. She couldn't help but notice the look in her cousin's eyes. She was going to have to take better control of Belle if this was going to work.

Keep yourself in check!

Embracing her cousin and turning to Bridget as she asked about her mother, Jessica, Faith looked relieved at the change of subject. She would be sure to find the stable boy later and apologise and explain more calmly how to handle Cobalt.

Bridget found herself reluctant to pull her eyes away from Faith. Her more recent behaviour was starting to concern her more and more. She would be sure to try and speak to Roberta about it when she had the chance. Indicating the wagon behind her, she forced a smile. "Aye M'lady, smooth enough for a first time wagon driver."

Rushing to her mother's side she helped her down from the wagon. She was pale and her hair thin. Purple splotches marred her skin all over, but Jessica, knowing she was in the presence of nobility, made a strained effort at a curtsey, and croaked out, "Tis good to meet ya Missus."

It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Ma'am, I said, hoping I hid the concern from my face. Seeing that Bridget's mother was frail of health, I motioned quickly for Geoff. Geoff, please help Bridget's mother in to the kitchen and have Cook get her a nice hot cup of tea. Geoff quickly sized up the situation and nodded to me.

After Geoff and Bridget's mother entered the kitchen, I turned to Bridget and Faith. I am not going to ask why you didn't tell me of her poor health. Probably afraid I would turn you away or something. But how long has she been so ill? Does she need special care? I blanched before I asked this last question, in a very quiet voice, Is she long for this world? I looked first to Faith, then Bridget, seeking my answers from either of them.

In the Kitchen:

Geoff called to Cook, Can we get some hot tea, Cook?

Cook turned to Geoff, ready to lay into him about how busy she is and to get it himself, when she spotted the lady with him. Quickly changing her tune, Aye, Mr. Geoff. Be just a moment. Cook bustled around and got a pot warming and after another glance at the woman sitting at her table, she grabbed the chamomile and rose hips tea blend.

Bridget and Faith looked at each other, Bridget looked as though she might tear up if she had to speak the words aloud. Since this was no business of Belle's, Faith flew into a flurry of answers. "Jessica has been suffering since long before Bridget came into my employ. Unfortunately Jonathan, her late husband, could not afford physicians, by the time I had her seen to, the sickness had crept too far through her body."

Faith took Bridget tenderly in her arms, hoping the girl would hold her composure. It had been hard on her, she had put so much effort into learning so much the last two years she had been by Faith's side, all so she can help her mother to no avail. "The best we can do now is keep her pain at bay. The physician says she shall rest with Jah before long."

Oh Dear Jah! I am so sorry Bridget. I open my arms to enfold them both. After the hug, I pull out a handkerchief of a pretty blue from my sleeve and hand it to Bridget. Here, dry to tears. Don't need your mum to see your crying. When Bridget tries to give it back, I say, No, that is Faith's. She let me borrow it for my wedding. I wink at Faith. Let's go in and have some tea.

Faith smiled at Roberta, her kindness was always warming. As the three began to head inside for tea, a commotion broke out in the stables, and the undeniable sound of Cobalt being uncooperative filtered through the din to her ears. "Curses! Ladies shall I meet you inside?"

With out waiting for a reply, she rushed off to see to her horse.

I watch Faith run off to the stables leaving me with Bridget. I don't know what is up with her lately. She is just not the cousin I had drinks with in London last season. I said this not realizing I had spoken aloud until I saw the look on Bridget's face. Oh! I didn't mean to say... Let's go in for some tea.

Bridget laid her hand on Roberta's arm before she walked away. "M'lady, forgive me if i speak out of turn, but you are right, Miss Faith has not been herself for some time. Its almost as if..." Bridget struggled to find the right words, she knew little to nothing about science and what made a person tick...

"Almost as if there are two people in that head of hers" Bridget finally said as she watched Faith run to attend to the horses. "I am worried about her."

Bridget's hand on her arm and the scared look in her eyes stopped me cold. Bridget, if there is something wrong, do not hesitate to speak. We both love Faith. I cover her hand with mine. Tell me, Girl, what do you know or guess?

Still hearing the commotion, I looked up at the stables. Let's walk around to the front. You can tell me on the way.

Bridget's eyes darted back toward the stable as she followed Roberta toward the front. "I do not know how much you know about her past M'lady, but from the sounds of things she has had a time of it since her parents were murdered." She paused, unsure whether Roberta knew about Faith having been an assassin, she thought perhaps it best to skirt the details, and just give her facts.

"Ever since her divorce from Master Solcan, it seemed that Faith would talk to herself. I thought perhaps it was a new way for her to deal with things after her breakdown while Duchess. but we were attacked by a man while in Lancaster a few months ago, who claimed to have witnessed my own Father's death, and as he died saving Miss Faith, I demanded answers, answers that nearly made me leave her employ. She killed him that night more swiftly than i had ever seen her, even during the war with the NNGO." A panic started to swell in Bridget. That night, and things Faith had told her since had made her almost afraid of her friend. "Our attacker slapped her and its almost as though, she... snapped!"

Lady_roberta
Oh dear Jah, murdered? I had no idea. Faith and I have not spoken much of our pasts. You may not know, but I only recently found my cousins and brother again, after many years. So we have just been getting to know each other again. I sighed. I listened as Bridget continued.

I was curious what answers would incite Bridget to leave Faith. She had thought the girl nearly worshiped Faith. Unless those answers dealt with the current situation, I would not ask. Talking to her self? Snapped? How, Bridget? I want to help my cousin. You are the only one with answers I do not have. Is she a danger to herself? To others?

Geoff would be on the grounds and the guards. I was mainly worried for Bridget, her mother, and Jane and Cook. I could not leave on our honeymoon if there were any danger to my people here.

(ooc: Sorry Boo... nets been stupid and i been busy )

"Miss Faith told me that before she came to Preston she was a very different person. Cold hearted, boastful, vain, overconfident, often doing and saying things that were not appropriate for the time or place, vicious, vindictive and generally not a nice person. Preston and responsibility in Lancaster changed her. She became warm, modest, tempered, softer, more demure, while still being strong, independent, confident, and being a generally nice person." She looked Roberta square in the eye, she could see the concern written all over her face when she asked about all their safety.

"M'lady, it seems to me, that Miss Faith did not change so much as she repressed who she once was, and every so often, she acts as she did before. But i get the impression she would not hurt those she loves and cares for, nor would she hurt someone just for the sake of it. But I do not know if she is a danger to herself or not." Bridget felt as though she were on the verge of tears. She adored her mentor and employer, Faith had given the girl more than her family would have ever been able to. Had Faith not taken her in she would be lucky if she were not married to a drunken wife beater simply so her mother would know she was cared for. With no education until she took over the Black Rose Coffee House in Preston, Bridget was destined to become just another peasant. Now she was the handmaiden of a Baroness, being taken to court and mingling with the leaders of the nation. And although she was, Faith never treated her like just one of the staff, she was always warm and caring towards her, asking her to do things with kindness and love, never demanding any thing.

"M'lady, I'm worried we are loosing our Faith." she said, finally breaking down into tears.

I listened to Bridget's tale of Faith with deep concern etched on her face. When Bridget broke down in tears, I took her into my arms and held her. Shhh We will have to keep an eye on her. Maybe we can save our Faith. But whatever her troubles, we must love her all the same.

They're talking about us out there you know.

Faith swung her attention away from a troublesome Cobalt to see Bridget and Roberta around the front of the castle, for just a moment. Well If you didn't insist on giving them something to talk about... She let the thought go as she gave a stern growl at Cobalt.

"Thats enough!" The war horse calmed himself and looked his rider square in the eye. He knew he was in trouble, but the horse looked as though he was confused, unsure which of the two personalities spoke to him. It almost seemed as though there was an echo to her words. Faith lead him into a distant stable from the other horses, slapping him on the rear as she unhooked his lead and shut the gate behind him. "He shouldn't be of any trouble to you now, but for your own safety best no one goes in there tonight. Call for me if he causes more issues. She said to the stable hand and walked off heading for where she spotted Bridget and Roberta.

By the time she arrived to where the pair stood Bridget was crying and Roberta had her enveloped in her arms. Belle raised an eyebrow but Faith tempered her and spoke before Belle had the chance.
"Good heavens what's wrong?"

I looked up at Faith's voice, wondering how much, if any, she had heard of our talk. Also wondering which Faith was speaking.

Bridget needed to speak to me about some of the health issues and the stress finally got to her, I think. I looked at Bridget as she pulled away from me and wiped her eyes. I was unsure how much either of us would or should say to Faith.

How is Cobalt? All settled in? I said, taking Bridget's arm in mine and stepping toward Faith.
