= [ORP] The Launce: Launceston Castle

Treena
Treena struggled to maintain a stern look through Darrian's speech, but when he got to the "Important Rule", she couldn't keep the giggle from escaping her lips. "I'll be sure to remember that, oh thou of infinite knowledge," she teased, shaking her head. As he boosted her up to wagon bench, she sat down with an exaggerated sigh of indignation, squinting her eyes at Darrian's boastful promise. Treena was not quite ready to give in and allow him his way, but she had to admit it was logical to "go in the direction of where you have to go."

Interlude was happy to be moving again, but they held him to a slow pace carefully examining the road for signs of where they were heading. Sounds of horses galloping slowly grew louder as two riders approached. Treena quickly recognized her brother from afar and urged Interlude towards him and his traveling companion. "Jack!" she called out with a bright smile. "Our saviour!" she nudged Darrian's ribs as she spoke. "Yes, of course, I couldn't miss Boo's engagement. I don't expect my siblings to wed anytime soon, so a cousin will have to do." She couldn't help teasing her long-time bachelor brother, even as Prince of England he never took a bride. And their sister Celdonea was resolute in staying single despite more than a few admirers. Even Treena herself had been engaged quite nearly a year without any real wedding plans.

"Emmy, how nice to see you here, too. Were you close with Boo, err Roberta, at court?" she asked, hiding her mild surprise at Emmy's attendance. "We would gladly join your group," Treena smiled, "assuming you know the way there. We've been riding in circles all through Dartmoor, and as lovely as it is, we'd like to make it before dessert is served."

"Indeed, I would be happy to have you aboard," replied Jack.

"I suspect part of the trouble is in people headed all the way out to Launceston when the castle is not inside that city."

He gestures for the two to follow, as he has been to "the Launc" before and knows how to return.

"Come, follow us."

Chris's kiss calmed my nerves some, as well as having him here to help host. I missed you as well, My Dear, I said, kissing him back.

Lily is a darling girl. Mary is the one that gave me my tour of the castle when I first got here, so Lily will enjoy Mary's stories. Turning to Chris, I sent invites to Hik and Paddy. I know it was not enough notice for them to come to the party, but I wanted them to know of our happiness.

Rich is in the parlor, he just got here not long before you arrived. We can get some thing to drink as well. Geoff is tending the bar. Taking Chris and Misty's arm's I lead them to the parlor bar first.

Chris, your not going to mix business with pleasure, are you? I teased him. We have wine and ale, also some irish whiskey and cider. Geoff you did get the cask of cider from the cellar didn't you?

Geoff's eyes went a little wide. Cider cask? No ma'am. I will get it right now. He made to leave the bar.

No, Geoff. I will have someone bring it up for you. Please Chris, Misty, what would you like to drink? Geoff will get it for you. I need to go check the kitchen. I kissed Chris's cheek. I will be right back.

I waved at Rich, seeing he was comfortable, then moved on to the kitchen. Janet, the cider was delivered today, right?

Oh, yes, M'Lady. Janet answered. Could you have one of the men take it to Geoff? It seems he doesn't have any cider. Thank you, Janet.

Yes. ma'am. I will have it done right away. Janet curtsied.

I returned to the parlor and saw Chris and Rich speaking. I went and stood by Chris, waiting for our other guests to show.

Treena
Treena was relieved to have someone to follow, amd she was even more pleased Jack did not lead them to the road Darrian had just suggested. "Thank heavens Jack found us out here, or we'd have been lost a good while longer," she spoke a little louder than usual to tease her fiancé. To her surprise, they went instead to the road that had just led them in a large circle. Still she trusted Jack, after all he had been there before to see their cousin, and she herself had not.

As soon as they were traveling again, and the horse hooves and wagon wheels would keep their conversation private, Treena scooted a little closer to Darrian on the bench and whispered, "Those two seem awfully close since I've been back. Has Jack finally found a place in his heart for someone who knows he exists?" She giggled softly.

A quarter of an hour later, they turned softly to the right instead of following the road straight. She waited for Darrian to tease that this is where she'd misdirected them, but at least they were heading the right way now. This road led relatively straight through farmland and forest for another hour or more until it finally circled the castle's grounds towards the main gate. The now rather large entourage rode to the guards' tower and waited to be admitted.

Treena allowed Jack to introduce them, he would be recognized, she hoped anyway. One never knows how worldly the people in this part of the country will be. She instead admired the manicured gardens of the estate, in stark contrast to her own mostly wild lands north of here. Boo has really made this remote castle shine with beauty befitting her stature, she thought.

On approach, Jack hailed the castle guard to alert them to the retinue's arrival. (Potentially overlooking any open or inviting aspects of the castle,) Jack knocked on the guardhouse door.

"Greetings," he announced, "We are Prince Jack Ashbrook, Earl of Bodmin, Treena Bedinfield Lady of Exmoor, Darrien from Exeter and Lady Emmy Balintyne also from Exeter."

Wow, what a mouthful.

"We've come to offer our congratulations to the Lady of the Castle (and our condolences to Earl Bedford ), as well as to attend the festivities this evening."

Rich Im so pleased you could make it here, I have something very important I wish to discuss with you my friend. I reach my right hand and firmly shake Rich's hand in greeting.

Rich, or mayhaps I should address you as Father Rich for this, as you will no doubt be aware my good friend I have had the upmost good fortune to have found the love of my life. Now I know these days you are an extemely busy fellow.... As Boo comes back to join me I trail off and kiss my Lass on the cheek, and take a hold of her hand.

There seems to be more guests arriving so I hold off continuing and wait for either Rich to speak or for Boo to introduce me to some of her kin.

Looks like the place if filling up Misty ! maybe there will be an odd bachelor or two

I accept Chris's kiss and smile up at him. Misty joins us and asks will Lily be ok with Mary Boo?

Oh, Yes, Misty. She cares for the young of the families that work her at the Launce. There are only a couple, but I have seen her, she is wonderful with the children. Please have no worry over it.

Ian comes back in the parlor and whispers in my ear. M'Lady, Prince Jack is here! Wiff 2 ladyz and one fella. I nod to Ian. Well go bring them in. Don't let them sit out there, I say quietly.

Chris, I will be right back. More guests have arrived. I smile at him and kiss his cheek. I arrive at the door, opening it to greet my Cousin Jack.

ConDoin had left the castle earlier in the day for a walk to clear his head whilst others prepared for his sister's engagement party. Upon his arrival, the guards informed him that many of the guests had arrived.

Robert spotted some of the serving men struggling to bring up a cask of cider from the castle cellars, having nothing else to do, he took it upon himself to lend a hand. "It's unlike ol' Geoff to have forgotten to have had this brought up earlier on." The other men only answered with a nod, as they struggled to haul the cask up the steps.

Rich had not managed to respond what with all the hustle and bustle going on, while I had a chance I leaned in and spoke in a hushed voice to him.

My good friend I would ask if you would be willing and able to assist me and Lady Roberta in the matter of matrimony ?

Quote:
"Rich Im so pleased you could make it here, I have something very important I wish to discuss with you my friend." I reach my right hand and firmly shake Rich's hand in greeting.

Taking the larger man's hand, Richileau returned the hearty handshake. Chrisius had spoken at one of those unfortunate moments when Richileau had his mouth full, so the priest could only smile warmly and nod in assent whilst trying desperately to swallow his hors d'euvre.

Realising Richileau's plight, Chrisius blushed slightly, realising the timing of his question, and continued.

Lady_Roberta arrived to grab a quick moment with her betrothed, and members of the bride-t0-be's family were announced. Chrisius' chain of concentration was broken, and when he came back to it, it seemed to be with a sense of urgency and importance that made him think much more time had passed in Richileau's silence than had in actuality transpired. The great warrior and general seemed nervous and petrubed; Richileau could only grin as he imagined the Earl of Bedfords stumbling words as he proposed to the Lady Condoin!

Quote:
"My good friend I would ask if you would be willing and able to assist me and Lady Roberta in the matter of matrimony ?"

"My Lord Chrisius, I am flattered and honoured that you would ask me to do this and you think so highly of me to even consider it. But are you sure you are not valuing our friendship higher than society - or you wife - would place it?"

Chrisius did not reply immediately, so Rich continued. "You are the Baron of Barnstaple and the Earl of Bedford. And Lady_Roberta. well - she is the Lady of Launceston, a past Countess, and a current candidate for the regency of the entire nation. I am merely a young and inexperienced priest, with a great deal of study still required of me. A marriage of this magnitude requires a cathedral, and to be conducted by a bishop. To have such a politicalically important union, and the joining of such wealth, to be performed in a humble parish church by one as lowly as me would be held above you both by your families and your peers. Have you talked about this proposal with Lady_Roberta's parents?

Hahaha ! A hearty roar of a laugh I make, startling most everyone in earshot, Misty almost spilling her glass,

Rich, you will do us just fine Sir, and you know far less of me than you think if you truly believe I give a stuff about pomp and circumstance !

These titles they've tried to weigh me down with over the years mean something sure, I am proud of my record ! but they are nothing compared to trust honour and integrity my friend, believe me Boo, or Lady Roberta if you prefer knows well my mind on such matters.

I couldnt help to keep chuckling along as I spoke, Rich had seriously over estimated my self import.

There will be no Cathedrals Rich there will be no boring adhereance to any silly snobbery, our wedding day will be for family and friends to share and enjoy, I am ChrisiusMaximus and before any Title or other and I am a Carpenter, a Soldier, and a Corn farmer, most important I am a Brother to my wonderful Sisters and if the Lady will have me without the airs and graces of court then I will become a loving Husband and who knows maybe even a Father too in time I wink and smile at Rich and give him a hearty smack to his left shoulder !

I had not spoken as quietly as before so I knew our conversation may have been overheard, in truth I wanted it known that Maximus does not lay down and put up with dandies and their ettiquette, nothing chokes the life out of the Depeches fun !
